Background / History

Alice first appears as an amnesiac survivor in the Hive, where she opposes Li Zu and Matt’s takeover of their escape group because the facility is overrun by unkillable creatures 200. After escaping the Hive, she and Matt are seized by Umbrella personnel; Alice is later imprisoned in a laboratory and awakens on an experimental machine covered in needles and metal clips 210.

She discovers that Umbrella injected her with the T-virus through the Alice Project. Instead of becoming a zombie, she evolved into a superhuman, while Matt became the subject of the separate Avenger Goddess Project 211. Alice immediately uses her new abilities to kill a zombie researcher, break through locked doors, and investigate the collapsing facility 210.

During the Raccoon City outbreak, Alice reunites with Claire and Sherry, protects them from Matt’s mutated form, and uses telekinesis to divert a rocket away from them 212 218. She later encounters Harley Quinn, who defects from Umbrella and persuades Alice to seek “Little Pudding” for answers about Umbrella and the real Dr. Isaacs 221.

Alice’s search leads her back to Li Zu, though she becomes increasingly uncertain whether the different versions of him are originals or clones 230 231. The truth later reveals that Alice herself had become a collectible in Li Zu’s Prop Box after shaking hands with a Li Zu in Umbrella’s underground facility; Alicia’s attempt to occupy Alice’s body involved taking over her memories, not ceasing to be a toy 238.

Alicia’s accumulated memories subsequently overwhelm Alice’s own identity, transforming her into a being described as Alicia—or perhaps a New God—with only a minute remnant of the original Alice remaining 277 278. Li Zu employs her against the Merciless by offering the Helmet of Ares as payment, and she accepts despite the mission’s fatal stakes 278.

After receiving her diary in the Dreamscape, Alice comes to trust Li Zu and is brought out to Asgard, where she receives Valkyrie armor, the Lasso of Truth, a pegasus, and custody of the Aether 501. She later fights as one of Li Zu’s strongest allies, helping Scarlet Witch kill Thanos and using the Lasso of Truth to restrain Apocalypse on the moon 514 571.

Before her memories are overwritten, Alice is cautious, practical, and protective of others. She objects to infighting in the Hive, distrusts Harley Quinn’s sudden offer of help, and demands answers before agreeing to cooperate 200 221. Her first priority after awakening is rescuing Matt and uncovering Umbrella’s experiments 211.

Alicia’s memories drastically change her demeanor. She becomes emotionally cold, speaks of herself as Li Zu’s prisoner and toy, and is drawn to the promise of greater power through the Helmet of Ares 278. Even so, receiving her own diary restores enough personal connection for her to place complete trust in Li Zu 501.
