Background / History

Pingxin first appears within a Human Clan tribe on the Eastern Sea Coast, where she teaches children to read and write. Chen Yang recognizes that she is neither human nor demon; when he confronts her at night, she accepts his identification of her as Houtu but insists that “among the Human Clan, there is only Pingxin, no Houtu.” She explains that she has come without hostile intent to observe human birth, aging, sickness, death, and generational succession in pursuit of the Great Path of Reincarnation 26.

She explains reincarnation as a universal cycle: individual life and death, time’s renewal, the mutual generation and restraint of the Five Elements, and the rise and fall of whole eras. She views the Demon Race, Wu Tribe, and Human Clan as the respective Clans of Heaven, Earth, and Humanity, and compares their coming conflict to the earlier destruction of the Dragon, Phoenix, and Qilin Clans 27.

Pingxin allows Chen Yang to learn from her teachings and travels with him through Human Clan settlements for thousands of years. Their Dao discussions and Chen Yang’s wisdom-enhancing treasures deepen her understanding of reincarnation; in return, she guides his physical cultivation and shares Wu Tribe knowledge with him 27 28.

After returning to the Wu Tribe, Pingxin introduces Chen Yang to its cultivation traditions, supports his study of body-tempering arts, and grants him access to thousands of techniques from Ancestor Shamans, High Shamans, Lesser Shamans, and other Wu Clan members. She later provides the prototype Reincarnation Formation that Chen Yang develops into the Firmament Reincarnation Formation 33 34 40 41.

Having long understood her destined role, Pingxin leads Chen Yang on a final journey to the Blood Sea. There, she uses her body and Great Path of Reincarnation to repair the Primordial Wilderness’s lack of a rebirth cycle, becoming the Reincarnation Divine Wheel. Afterward, she gives Chen Yang her complete reincarnation insights before her remaining manifestation fades into the reincarnation system 44 45.

Although unable to leave the Land of Reincarnation in person, Pingxin remains active through incarnations summoned by Chen Yang’s Reincarnation Formation Arrays. When Nuwa attempts to use Pangu’s bones to restore Fuxi and install him as a Human Clan ruler, Pingxin warns that doing so would compel the Wu Tribe to return to the Primordial World and seek Fuxi’s death. She instead offers to remove Zhurong’s will from Fuxi and restore his true spirit through reincarnation, leaving the terms of the exchange to Chen Yang 62.

After reincarnation stabilizes, Pingxin receives Chen Yang in the Land of Reincarnation and reorganizes the surviving Wu Tribe. She assigns Houyi to help manage the Land of Reincarnation while Xingtian leads most surviving Wu members and the Ancestral Witch Hall to Black Tortoise Continent. She also supports the Human Clan–Wu Tribe alliance and agrees to arrange Chiyou’s rebirth into the Human Clan as its future Earth Sovereign 64.

Pingxin continues to protect Chen Yang during major periods of cultivation. Her essence blood becomes the foundation for Chen Yang’s Thick Earth Reincarnation Formation, transforming his meridians, strengthening his body, and refining his Formation Dao mana. She later permits him to attempt creating bodies for her through faith-based Dharma Forms, but every form is destroyed when her true spirit enters it, proving that reincarnation continues to bind her completely 86 87.

Her authority over reincarnation expands beyond ordinary rebirth. She examines dangerous treasures and Chen Yang’s condition through reincarnation, sends Hongyun’s surviving origin into a restorative reincarnation, and assists Chen Yang in strategic agreements involving Minghe and other ancient powers 64 103 264.

Pingxin and Chen Yang later merge their souls and pass through ten thousand lives together within reincarnation. Her guidance, sacrifice of soul power, and shared experiences allow Chen Yang’s Primordial Spirit to evolve an Astral Formation, completing the foundational structure of his Formation Dao. Even after this achievement, she remains within reincarnation to prepare for the growing threats facing the Primordial World 203 204.

During the Return Ruins crisis, Pingxin receives the gravely wounded Xuanming in the Land of Reincarnation. By combining Reincarnation with her Creation Dao, she removes the curses afflicting Xuanming, restores her True Spirit, and hastens her recovery. She also aids Chen Yang’s prolonged refinement of the Primal Chaos Bell and begins investigating the Ancestral Witch Hall after it displays an unknown power capable of erasing the Bell’s artifact spirit 300 303.

Appearance

In her human guise, Pingxin is a beautiful woman whose serene bearing is more striking than her appearance. Chen Yang first sees her teaching children while dressed in apricot-yellow outer robes over white garments 26.

Pingxin is calm, compassionate, and observant. Rather than pursuing enlightenment through conflict alone, she studies ordinary lives, mortality, social change, and the repeating patterns of history. She does not judge Chen Yang by his sect affiliation and teaches him openly when he sincerely seeks understanding 26 27.

She is also restrained in what she reveals. Although she answers Chen Yang’s questions about reincarnation, the Wu-Demon conflict, and Chang’e’s origins, she withholds knowledge he is not yet ready to bear 27 32.

Her compassion is matched by exceptional resolve. Pingxin accepts the necessity of sacrificing herself to establish reincarnation, even as Chen Yang searches for another path. She faces her transformation without hesitation, prioritizing the rebirth of countless souls over her own continued existence 44.

As the ruler of reincarnation, Pingxin remains politically clear-sighted and protective of the Wu Tribe. She refuses to permit Fuxi’s restoration through Pangu’s bones, recognizing that it would reopen the Wu Tribe’s ancient conflict with him, while also offering Nuwa a less destructive means of saving Fuxi 62.

Pingxin is emotionally resilient despite her imprisonment within reincarnation. She repeatedly consoles Chen Yang when his attempts to create her a permanent body fail, encourages him to continue pursuing his own path, and shares his willingness to prepare for future catastrophes rather than surrender to fate 87 204.

Pingxin enters the Human Clan under an assumed identity, teaches its children, and observes the mortal cycle of life and death. Her presence introduces the Great Path of Reincarnation as a central force in Chen Yang’s cultivation and in the future of the Primordial World 26 27.

Chen Yang’s Dao Guide

She travels with Chen Yang across the Eastern Sea Coast, exchanging insight for the wisdom-enhancing aid of his treasures. Her guidance helps him strengthen his body, understand reincarnation, and pursue Primordial Spirit formations without abandoning his Formation Dao 27 28.

Wu Tribe Ally

After returning to Buzhou Mountain, Pingxin gives Chen Yang access to Wu Tribe cultivation methods, supports his battlefield-formation research, and advocates for him within the tribe. Her trust enables his deeper cooperation with Zhurong, Xingtian, Houyi, and the other shamans 33 34 35.

Founder of Reincarnation

Pingxin’s final act is the creation of the Reincarnation Divine Wheel at the Blood Sea. Her sacrifice establishes the rebirth cycle and later evolves it into the Six Paths, permanently changing the cosmic order of the Primordial Wilderness 44 45.

Ruler of the Land of Reincarnation

After becoming reincarnation’s foundation, Pingxin governs the passage and rebirth of souls from within the Land of Reincarnation. Though her true spirit is imprisoned there, she projects incarnations through Chen Yang’s formations, restores damaged souls, and uses the Six Paths as a decisive force in political negotiations involving Fuxi, Hongyun, and the future of the Wu Tribe 62 64.

Protector of the Surviving Wu Tribe

Following the Wu-Demon War, Pingxin preserves the Wu Tribe’s future by dividing its surviving forces between the Land of Reincarnation and Black Tortoise Continent. She forges a lasting alliance with the Human Clan, arranges for Human-Wu assistance in administering reincarnation, and prepares Chiyou to become the Human Clan’s Earth Sovereign 64 87.

Chen Yang’s Bound Dao Companion

Pingxin’s relationship with Chen Yang continues after her transformation. She protects his cultivation, provides essence blood and guidance for his body-forged formations, and shares the pain of his failed attempts to give her a new body. Their ten thousand joint reincarnations ultimately help Chen Yang evolve his Astral Formation and approach Formation-Proving Dao 86 87 203 204.

As the Primordial World enters successive crises, Pingxin remains a critical source of restoration and hidden knowledge.
