Background / History

Pingxin first appears within a Human Clan tribe on the Eastern Sea Coast, where she teaches children to read and write. Chen Yang recognizes that she is neither human nor demon; when he confronts her at night, she accepts his identification of her as Houtu but insists that “among the Human Clan, there is only Pingxin, no Houtu.” She explains that she has come without hostile intent to observe human birth, aging, sickness, death, and generational succession in pursuit of the Great Path of Reincarnation 26.

She explains reincarnation as a universal cycle: individual life and death, time’s renewal, the mutual generation and restraint of the Five Elements, and the rise and fall of whole eras. She views the Demon Race, Wu Tribe, and Human Clan as the respective Clans of Heaven, Earth, and Humanity, and compares their coming conflict to the earlier destruction of the Dragon, Phoenix, and Qilin Clans 27.

Pingxin allows Chen Yang to learn from her teachings and travels with him through Human Clan settlements for thousands of years. Their Dao discussions and Chen Yang’s wisdom-enhancing treasures deepen her understanding of reincarnation; in return, she guides his physical cultivation and shares Wu Tribe knowledge with him 27 28.

After returning to the Wu Tribe, Pingxin introduces Chen Yang to its cultivation traditions, supports his study of body-tempering arts, and grants him access to thousands of techniques from Ancestor Shamans, High Shamans, Lesser Shamans, and other Wu Clan members. She later provides the prototype Reincarnation Formation that Chen Yang develops into the Firmament Reincarnation Formation 33 34 40 41.
