| Name | Divine Markings |
| Original Name | 神纹 |
| Type | Supernatural patterns that manifest, express, or reproduce the operation of Bloodline Divine Abilities |
| Primary Bearers | Ferocious beasts and spirit beasts; exceptionally, Lin Yi manifests white-gold markings associated with his awakened Spirit Eyes |
| First Appearance | The Savage Bull King’s dark cyan markings emerge during the hunt 9 |
Nature and Function
Divine Markings are the visible “form” of a Bloodline Divine Ability. Ferocious beasts inherit such abilities from primordial ancestors when their bloodline is sufficiently pure and an appropriate awakening opportunity arises. When activated, the markings generally surface across the body and reveal how the power operates within flesh, blood, and qi 12.
They are not ornamental patterns. Their lines, nodes, circulation routes, and rhythms coordinate with muscles, blood-qi, Aperture Points, and body structure to produce effects such as physical amplification, speed, defense, elemental attacks, concealment, or spiritual-energy absorption 10 13 52.
- A beast’s markings may fade completely after death, making direct preservation difficult 10.
- Inactive markings can exist deep within a beast’s body rather than on its surface 35 36.
- The complexity of a diagram varies enormously; Lin Yi can rapidly comprehend low-level markings but cannot yet decipher Little Flame’s complete Gilded Divine Markings 44 59.
- Directly copying a beast’s pattern onto a human body is ineffective because humans and beasts have different anatomy, meridians, and Aperture Point arrangements 13.
Manifestation and Observation
Surface Manifestation
When a Bloodline Divine Ability is active, Divine Markings may emerge over the bearer’s body and brighten as blood and qi circulate through them. The Savage Bull King’s markings spread from its shoulders across its spine, ribs, limbs, and head; their radiance intensified as it exerted more force 9 10.
The patterns can reinforce a bearer’s body and attacks. The Savage Bull King’s thick hide became difficult to penetrate while its markings were active, and its strength continued increasing as the markings flared 10.
Internal Structure
Divine Markings can remain hidden inside a living creature’s flesh. Lin Yi’s Spirit Eyes can penetrate fur, flesh, and carapace to observe these inactive internal structures, allowing him to record a Divine Mark Diagram without waiting for the creature to activate its ability 30 36.
This method lets Lin Yi identify whether a beast possesses markings at all; a giant bear examined with Spirit Eyes showed only ordinary meridians and blood vitality, with no Divine Marking structure 35.
Human-Awakened Markings
While recovering from severe injuries, white-gold Divine Markings emerged across Lin Yi’s cerebral cortex, evolved autonomously through spiritual-energy absorption, and extended through his neural pathways to his eyes 29. These markings later manifest as pale-gold patterns over his eyeballs when he activates the Spirit Eyes 30.
Di Qing identifies Lin Yi’s Spirit Eyes as an awakened Divine Ability, an anomaly because pure-blooded humans normally do not awaken Innate Divine Abilities 55 56.
Documented Divine Markings
| Source | Appearance / Location | Known Function | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Savage Bull King | Dark cyan; shoulders, spine, ribs, limbs, and head | Reinforces the body and amplifies blood-qi-driven strength | Recorded by Lin Yi during the hunt; later adapted into the Savage Bull Diagram 9 10 13 |
| Inkshadow Leopard | Fine ink-black lines across the limbs, shoulders, and claws | Short-distance explosive speed | Adapted into Flowing Light, Fleeting Shadow 26 31 32 |
| Shadowmarked Spider | Gray-black patterns concentrated in the eight legs | Strengthens hardness and piercing at limb extremities; weakens aura emission | Its concealment component became the Breath-Concealing Art 36 37 |
| Lava Giant Ape | Dense crimson network within the body; Lin Yi records only about ten percent | Blood-qi amplification, flesh-and-bone spiritual-qi absorption, and fire attribute | The partial diagram became a major foundation of Lin Yi’s later arts 38 52 |
| Little Flame | Gilded markings throughout the body, densest around the eyes | Unknown | Their complexity rivals the Lava Giant Ape’s markings; Lin Yi cannot fully comprehend them 43 44 59 |
| Eye of Zheng | Dark cyan patterns inside the sacrificial artifact | Eye-based divine light and mental-pressure suppression | Lin Yi grafts the divine-light function into the Spirit Eyes 62 70 |
| Gu Diao | Markings concentrated around the wings | Condenses blood-qi into wings for short-distance gliding and intermittent flight | Considered of limited use to Lin Yi after reaching the Spirit-Nurturing Realm 59 60 |
| Suanyu | Light-green markings across its body and wings | Improves aerial burst speed, sharp turns, and maneuverability | Considered more useful than the Gu Diao’s flight markings 60 |
| Darkfeather Falcon | Wing-based markings | Movement acceleration | Comprehended and integrated during Lin Yi’s later refinement 68 |
| Mystic-Winged Flying Tiger | Bony-wing markings | Long-range slashing attacks | Permanently added to the Sword Embryo alongside Penetration 68 |
| Rock-Armored Turtle | Not specified | Defense | One of six Spirit-Nurturing Realm diagrams comprehended by Lin Yi 68 |
| Water Jiao | Not specified | Lightning | Used to develop independent lightning attacks 68 |
| Silvermoon Giant Wolf | Includes a crescent forehead marking | Moonlight spiritual-energy absorption | Moonlight energy increases Lin Yi’s comprehension growth, but can only be absorbed at night 67 68 |
Human Adaptation
Human martial techniques and divine abilities originated from ancient practitioners studying ferocious beasts, copying their Divine Markings, deducing their internal principles, and transforming beastly forms into methods suitable for human bodies 12.
Lin Yi follows this process more directly than ordinary cultivators. He records diagrams with his Super Brain, identifies their functional components, then rebuilds their routes around human meridians and acupoints 13 32.
Reconstruction Process
- Analyze circulation — identifies how a marking’s light, blood, qi, muscles, and nodes interact during activation 10 13.
- Separate functions — dismantles a diagram into usable components, such as strength transmission, explosive nodes, aura concealment, or elemental properties 13 37 52.
- Adapt anatomy — replaces beast Aperture Points and circulation routes with human acupoints and meridians 13.
- Form a closed circuit — connects the redesigned pattern into a stable blood-and-qi loop; incomplete routes cause painful meridian backlash 13.
- Document transmission — creates instructional diagrams showing human acupoints, circulation direction, mnemonic verses, and activation instructions 15.
Derived Arts and Applications
| Technique / Application | Divine Marking Basis | Result |
|---|---|---|
| Savage Bull Diagram | Savage Bull King | A human-compatible strength martial skill. Its blood-gold markings circulate blood and qi through a closed internal route, generating a Savage Bull phantom and more than doubling Lin Yi’s strength during early testing 13 14 |
| Savage Bull Art | Savage Bull King | A cultivation method based on autonomous circulation, allowing blood and qi to continuously temper the body rather than relying on the Bluestone Tribe’s external bluestone training 15 18 |
| Flowing Light, Fleeting Shadow | Inkshadow Leopard | A two-layer movement skill: Flowing Light provides sustainable speed with low consumption, while Fleeting Shadow produces a high-cost explosive burst 32 |
| Breath-Concealing Art | Shadowmarked Spider | Weakens the user’s aura, reducing Lin Yi’s Mountain-Sinking Realm presence to roughly the level of First Cry; it does not erase aura completely 37 |
| Great Wilderness Divine-Pattern Record | Savage Bull King and Lava Giant Ape, later expanded with further beast markings | Replaces the Savage Bull Diagram. It initially provides stable twofold strength enhancement or a costly threefold burst, both carrying a burning effect 52 |
| Great Wilderness Art | Savage Bull Art and Lava Giant Ape | Improves blood-and-qi conversion by seventy percent and incorporates a primitive beast-style spiritual-qi absorption method 52 |
| Temporary Penetration Coating | Shadowmarked Spider | Uses qi and blood to apply Penetration Markings to the Sword Embryo; the effect vanishes when energy supply stops 57 |
| Permanent Weapon Inscription | Penetration Marking; later Slashing Marking | Spiritual power allows Divine Markings to settle permanently into spiritually imbued weapons, creating Spirit Artifacts such as Lin Yi’s Sword Embryo and the Bluestone Tribe’s weapons 60 61 68 |
| Spirit Eyes Divine Light | Eye of Zheng | A platinum-white eye beam combining physical destruction with an apparent Divine Soul or mental attack 62 70 |
Refinement and Integration
Lin Yi does not treat each diagram as a fixed, isolated technique. He extracts compatible structures and incorporates them into broader systems.
- A partial Lava Giant Ape diagram upgrades the Savage Bull Diagram into the Great Wilderness Divine-Pattern Record and upgrades the Savage Bull Art into the Great Wilderness Art 52.
- Low-level markings provide limited individual gains, but layered together can strengthen the underlying structure of the Great Wilderness Divine-Pattern Record 65.
- After comprehending six Spirit-Nurturing Realm diagrams, Lin Yi unifies the previously layered Great Wilderness Divine-Pattern Record and Flowing Light, Fleeting Shadow into systems whose output scales with spiritual-power investment, reaching a fivefold enhancement limit 68.
- Strength, defense, speed, fire, lightning, pressure, slashing, and penetration can be used separately or in combination after this refinement 68.
Limitations
- Anatomical incompatibility — Beast markings must be rebuilt for human meridians and acupoints; superficial imitation produces no amplification 13.
- Comprehension requirement — Recording a pattern does not ensure immediate understanding. Lin Yi requires nearly a year by estimate to fully decipher Little Flame’s Gilded Divine Markings 59.
- Incomplete records — Lin Yi recorded only about ten percent of the Lava Giant Ape’s diagram, limiting what he can extract from it 38 52.
- Resource consumption — High-output adaptations consume substantial blood qi or spiritual power and cannot always be sustained 32 52.
- Marking quality — Many beasts possess no markings, while some recorded abilities have little practical combat value, such as the green toad’s tongue-extension ability 35 60.
- Weapon requirements — Permanent inscription depends on spiritual power and a weapon material capable of holding it 60 61.
