Nature and Threat Level

Ferocious Beasts are the dangerous wildlife of the Great Wilderness. Their strength varies dramatically: weaker varieties resemble ordinary wild animals, while high-ranking individuals can destroy small or medium tribes. Beast Tides and provoked high-ranking beasts are responsible for the annihilation of entire tribes. 4

Appearance

Ferocious Beasts do not share a single body type. They include horned herd animals, predators, reptiles, spiders, birds, and giant apes, often far larger or tougher than comparable ordinary animals. 9 35 59 64

• Savage Bulls — Massive grayish-brown bovines with armor-like hides, bony shoulder plates, pillar-like legs, and spiral horns. 9
• Inkshadow Leopards — Ambush predators whose black Divine Markings spread across their limbs, shoulders, and claws when their Bloodline Divine Ability is activated. 26
• Gu Diao — Eagle-like beasts with iron-gray feathers, a spiraling horn, and Divine Markings concentrated in their wings. 59
• Lava Giant Apes — Enormous lava-armored apes; the smallest observed specimens exceeded thirty meters, while the largest surpassed fifty meters. 37

Bloodline Divine Abilities

Origin

Bloodline Divine Abilities are inherited powers originating from Ancient Exotic Beasts. A Ferocious Beast may awaken such an ability when it possesses a sufficiently pure ancestral bloodline and encounters the proper opportunity. 12

• Ordinary Ferocious Beasts do not necessarily possess an awakened bloodline. 9 35
• Bloodline bearers are often stronger and more intelligent than others of their species. 9
• Aberrant bloodline bearers may become natural kings among their kind. 9

Divine Markings

When a Bloodline Divine Ability activates, Divine Markings generally appear across the beast’s body as the visible form of the power operating through its flesh. 12

• The Savage Bull King’s dark-cyan markings enhanced its body, strength, hide, and charging power. 9 10
• The Inkshadow Leopard’s ink-black markings enabled an extreme short-range burst state, but the ability had severe endurance limits. 26
• Divine Markings may fade upon a beast’s death, as seen with the Savage Bull King. 10 11
• Human martial techniques and secret arts can be created by studying, comprehending, and adapting Ferocious Beast Divine Markings to human meridians and acupoints. 12 13

Value to Cultivators

• Meat — Ferocious Beast meat replenishes blood-qi depleted during cultivation; failing to replenish this energy can stall cultivation or damage a practitioner’s foundation. 5
• High-rank nourishment — Inkshadow Leopard meat contains more than five times the blood-qi of ordinary Savage Bull or Earth Gnawer meat. 31
• Divine Markings — Bloodline markings provide templates for martial skills, cultivation arts, movement techniques, elemental attacks, and Spirit Artifacts. 12 52 60 61
