Background

Tang San is a transmigrator who retains Tang Sect martial arts, hidden-weapon knowledge, and a strong attachment to Tang Sect principles. His reliance on those principles creates friction with Douluo Continent customs—particularly the widespread protection afforded to healing Spirit Masters. 1 9

For six years, he studies under Yu Xiaogang and accepts his teacher’s soul-ring theories as authoritative. Lin Yan’s four thousand-year rings immediately challenge those beliefs, but Tang San initially responds with hostility rather than reconsidering them. 2

Tang San is later revealed to be Tang Hao’s son and the inheritor of twin martial souls: Tang Hao’s Clear Sky Hammer and A Yin’s Blue Silver Grass. Tang Hao also reveals that A Yin left behind a spirit bone intended to restore Tang San’s body and awaken his Blue Silver Emperor bloodline. 69 73

Personality

Tang San is fiercely proud of his talent, Tang Sect inheritance, and reputation. When Lin Yan receives recognition for superior healing, spirit-beast knowledge, or social support, Tang San repeatedly treats it as a personal challenge and attempts to reassert himself through reckless displays of strength. 26 27

His devotion can become destructive. He pursues Xiao Wu alone despite severe injuries and the threat of the Titan Giant Ape, and later attempts to confront a vastly superior force in Yu Xiaogang’s name. 31 58 He is also deeply dependent on Yu Xiaogang’s approval; the threat of expulsion makes him immediately submit and blame Lin Yan for his own choices. 39

Tang San values Xiao Wu more than the power Tang Hao promises him. He rejects Tang Hao’s plan to capture her for a hundred-thousand-year spirit ring and spirit bone, then breaks down after Xiao Wu permanently ends their relationship. 62 69

Conflict with Lin Yan

Tang San first clashes with Lin Yan after witnessing the Prayer Angel’s four thousand-year rings. He questions Lin Yan’s defiance of Yu Xiaogang’s ring-limit theory, disparages support Spirit Masters, and becomes the target of Ning Rongrong’s public rebuke. 2 3

His hostility escalates after his storage belt disappears. Convinced that Lin Yan stole his hidden-weapon blueprints, Tang San grabs him by the collar at the Soul Fighting Arena and accuses him of theft, but Flender and the other Shrek students support Lin Yan instead. 13 14

Star Dou Great Forest

Tang San’s jealousy of Lin Yan’s competence drives him to intercept the Cockscomb Phoenix Snake himself rather than coordinating with the team. Though he subdues it, he suffers internal injuries and refuses healing to preserve his image. 26 27

He worsens the situation by insulting Chaotian Xiang, forcing Zhao Wuji to surrender the spirit beast to avoid provoking the Dragon Duke. Zhao Wuji’s reprimand makes Tang San recognize the danger of the outside world, though the lesson does not prevent later impulsive behavior. 28 29

Lone Bamboo and Break with Shrek

Tang San obtains a Millennium Lone Bamboo as his third spirit ring after confronting Zhao Wuji and the group over their refusal to assist him. The ring grants Toughness and a trunk spirit bone, but Yu Xiaogang reacts violently because the life-attribute path threatens his intended poison-focused cultivation plan. 34 38 39

Tang San later joins Yu Xiaogang and Flender in confronting Lin Yan over Yu Xiaogang’s severed arm. He insists on revenge despite being outnumbered, but Oscar and Ma Hongjun refuse to support what they consider a suicidal fight. 57 58

Defeat and Separation from Xiao Wu

After the conflict with Lin Yan’s allies, Tang San is left with severed hand and foot tendons. He begs Xiao Wu to return to their former life, but she rejects him, renounces their sibling-like bond, and leaves with Lin Yan. 62
