Background

Dai Mubai had been at Shrek Academy for at least two or three years before Lin Yan’s conflict with Tang San. During that period, Lin Yan repeatedly healed injuries Dai sustained in the Soul Fighting Arena, but Dai treated the healing as an ordinary consumable service rather than showing meaningful gratitude. 4

When Tang San became hostile toward Lin Yan, Dai publicly declared Lin Yan his “best brother” and staged a brotherhood ritual with Ma Hongjun and Oscar. Lin Yan recognized the display as an attempt to secure a valuable healer’s loyalty rather than genuine friendship. 4

As the Third Prince of Xingluo, Dai viewed Lin Yan’s healing ability as strategically useful for the Xingluo succession struggle. His public protection of Lin Yan was motivated in part by the prospect of using Lin Yan’s support to help himself and Zhu Zhuqing compete for the throne. 9

Personality

Dai Mubai is prideful, volatile, and deeply concerned with status. He repeatedly invokes his Xingluo royal identity to justify his authority, reacts to criticism with rage, and struggles to accept public humiliation. 22 44

He is also calculating when direct confrontation is unfavorable. After Zhao Wuji suppresses him, Dai feigns remorse and apologizes, then secretly arranges an ambush using Xingluo dark guards. 44 45

His treatment of Zhu Zhuqing reveals extreme possessiveness and hypocrisy. Though he frequents brothels and previously arranged to seek women with Ma Hongjun, he treats Zhu Zhuqing’s rejection and relationship with Lin Yan as a personal betrayal. 10 21 43

Dai publicly positions himself as Lin Yan’s protector after Tang San becomes hostile toward him. Behind the emotional display, he seeks to recruit Lin Yan as a politically useful healer. 4 9

Breakdown with Zhu Zhuqing

Dai’s attempt to appear reformed collapses when Ma Hongjun exposes his brothel plans. Zhu Zhuqing calls him disgusting and increasingly distances herself from him. 10 21

During the journey to the Star Dou Great Forest, Dai demands that Zhu Zhuqing accept him as “her man,” insults her family, and reacts with fury when she calls him a good-for-nothing fiancé. 21

Escalating Humiliation

After Ning Rongrong refuses to support a fight Dai helped provoke, he threatens to kill her. Zhu Zhuqing condemns him as incompetent, and Zhao Wuji stops him before he can seize her. 22

Dai later attempts to strike Zhu Zhuqing, but her hidden Soul Shield blocks the attack. Zhao Wuji responds by pinning him to the ground with Gravity Control, leaving Dai resentful toward Zhu Zhuqing, Ning Rongrong, Zhao Wuji, and Lin Yan. 23

Ambush and Death

After being publicly restrained again for attacking Ning Rongrong, Dai pretends to apologize and secretly orders his guards to prepare an isolated ambush. 44

He lures Lin Yan, Ning Rongrong, and Zhu Zhuqing onto a deserted forest road under the pretense of reconciliation. Once surrounded, he threatens the girls and discovers that Lin Yan is Zhu Zhuqing’s lover. 45 46

Lin Yan’s Seraph form annihilates nearly all of Dai’s guards and kills their Spirit Emperor leader. Terrified, Dai begs Lin Yan for mercy, offers Zhu Zhuqing as a bargaining chip, and unsuccessfully attempts to fight back. 47 48

Lin Yan leaves Dai’s fate to Zhu Zhuqing and Ning Rongrong. The two execute him with their soul-tool weapons despite his threats, pleas, and offers of wealth. 48
