Background

Dai Mubai had been at Shrek Academy for at least two or three years before Lin Yan’s conflict with Tang San. During that period, Lin Yan repeatedly healed injuries Dai sustained in the Soul Fighting Arena, but Dai treated the healing as an ordinary consumable service rather than showing meaningful gratitude. 4

When Tang San became hostile toward Lin Yan, Dai publicly declared Lin Yan his “best brother” and staged a brotherhood ritual with Ma Hongjun and Oscar. Lin Yan recognized the display as an attempt to secure a valuable healer’s loyalty rather than genuine friendship. 4

As the Third Prince of Xingluo, Dai viewed Lin Yan’s healing ability as strategically useful for the Xingluo succession struggle. His public protection of Lin Yan was motivated in part by the prospect of using Lin Yan’s support to help himself and Zhu Zhuqing compete for the throne. 9

Before Zhu Zhuqing’s arrival, Dai regularly visited brothels and frequently spent nights away from the academy, sometimes skipping classes altogether. His fellow students became accustomed to these absences, which later prevented them from immediately recognizing the significance of his disappearance. 21 49

Dai Mubai possesses heterochromatic eyes. When he releases his White Tiger Martial Soul, he becomes a nearly two-meter-tall combatant with a markedly more imposing presence. 22

Personality

Dai Mubai is prideful, volatile, and deeply concerned with status. He repeatedly invokes his Xingluo royal identity to justify his authority, reacts to criticism with rage, and struggles to accept public humiliation. 22 44

He is also calculating when direct confrontation is unfavorable. After Zhao Wuji suppresses him, Dai feigns remorse and apologizes, then secretly arranges an ambush using Xingluo dark guards. 44 45

His treatment of Zhu Zhuqing reveals extreme possessiveness and hypocrisy. Though he frequents brothels and previously arranged to seek women with Ma Hongjun, he treats Zhu Zhuqing’s rejection and relationship with Lin Yan as a personal betrayal. 10 21 43

His apparent reform after Zhu Zhuqing joins Shrek is largely performative. He abstains from brothel visits for nearly a week to present himself as a reformed man, but loses patience when she continues refusing physical contact and challenges his responsibility as her fiancé. 21

Dai uses Shrek’s philosophy that “those who dare not make trouble are mediocrities” to justify provoking others. When Ning Rongrong criticizes this reasoning, he responds with threats rather than accepting responsibility for the fight he helped cause. 22

Despite his attempts at manipulation, Dai is poor at concealing his hostility. Lin Yan identifies his murderous intentions through his gloomy expressions during the Star Dou Great Forest expedition. When his guards are defeated, his confidence collapses into begging and bargaining. He offers wealth and Zhu Zhuqing to save himself, then alternates between threats against her clan and promises to dissolve their engagement. 48

During the journey to the Star Dou Great Forest, Dai demands that Zhu Zhuqing accept him as “her man,” insults her family, and reacts with fury when she calls him a good-for-nothing fiancé. 21

Zhu Zhuqing’s rejection also becomes significant to Lin Yan’s system progression. After her favorability reaches 100%, Lin Yan concludes that her complete emotional break with Dai is the decisive condition behind her successful conquest. 21 22

Escalating Humiliation

After Ning Rongrong refuses to support a fight Dai helped provoke, he threatens to kill her. Zhu Zhuqing condemns him as incompetent, and Zhao Wuji stops him before he can seize her. 22

Dai later attempts to strike Zhu Zhuqing, but her hidden Soul Shield blocks the attack. Zhao Wuji responds by pinning him to the ground with Gravity Control, leaving Dai resentful toward Zhu Zhuqing, Ning Rongrong, Zhao Wuji, and Lin Yan. 23

False Reconciliation in the Star Dou Great Forest

The following morning, Dai unexpectedly apologizes to Lin Yan and proposes a banquet after the group returns to the academy, including Ning Rongrong and Zhu Zhuqing in the invitation. Lin Yan finds the sudden friendliness suspicious but outwardly accepts. 25 26

The apparent reconciliation reassures Zhao Wuji and slightly improves Zhu Zhuqing’s opinion of Dai. Ning Rongrong remains wary, while Dai continues concealing resentment and murderous hostility beneath his friendly manner. 26

After the hunt, Dai joins Ma Hongjun and Oscar in mocking Tang San’s jealousy over Xiao Wu’s closeness with Lin Yan. Drawing on his own experience with women, he argues that Tang San’s feelings are not merely those of an older brother. 36 37

Ambush and Death

After being publicly restrained again for attacking Ning Rongrong, Dai pretends to apologize and secretly orders his guards to prepare an isolated ambush. 44

He lures Lin Yan, Ning Rongrong, and Zhu Zhuqing onto a deserted forest road under the pretense of reconciliation. Once surrounded, he threatens the girls and discovers that Lin Yan is Zhu Zhuqing’s lover. 45 46

Zhu Zhuqing briefly causes him to hesitate by warning that killing Ning Rongrong could provoke conflict between Xingluo and the Seven Treasure Glazed Tile Sect. Dai dismisses the danger, threatens retaliation against the Zhu family, and orders his guards to kill Lin Yan after Lin Yan openly embraces and kisses Zhu Zhuqing. 45 46

Lin Yan’s Seraph form annihilates nearly all of Dai’s guards and kills their Spirit Emperor leader. Terrified, Dai begs Lin Yan for mercy, offers Zhu Zhuqing as a bargaining chip, and unsuccessfully attempts to fight back. 47 48

Lin Yan leaves Dai’s fate to Zhu Zhuqing and Ning Rongrong. The two execute him with their soul-tool weapons despite his threats, pleas, and offers of wealth. 48

Disappearance and Aftermath

That evening, the other Shrek members remain unaware of Dai’s death and search for him at the Soto Great Soul Fighting Arena. Lin Yan claims that Dai left after lunch and suggests that he may already be in the contestant lounge. 48

Flender’s concern grows as Dai fails to appear. Ma Hongjun and Oscar dismiss the absence because Dai has a history of spending nights away with women and skipping classes. Yu Xiaogang instead criticizes his lack of discipline and demands punishment when he returns, unaware that Dai will never come back. 49

When Zhu Zhuqing later declares publicly that Lin Yan is her boyfriend, Ma Hongjun immediately asks what this means for “Boss Dai.” Flender reacts with complex emotions, but the scene does not confirm that either has learned of Dai’s death. 52

Dai’s name subsequently appears in Yu Xiaogang’s attempt to blame Lin Yan for Tang San’s setbacks. Yu portrays Lin Yan as having disrupted Tang San’s prospective alliances with Dai and Ning Rongrong. 70
