Arc 32Terra’s Soil and the Lost Bell

Li Qinwu built his repair business on the route to Terra, gained a place in the Inquisition, and secured valuable Terra soil while defending Nova and Thraxol’s family. He then sought a warship and tried to arrange a memorial toll for the Broken-Winged Angel Chapter, but Hero’s Tower refused to proceed without official approval.

  • Li Qinwu expanded the Golden Land’s ship-repair and parts business, met Dorodo, and learned that natural goods and Terra Soil were valuable on Terra.
  • Li Qinwu accepted Grand Mentor Sigurd’s offer to work as an independent Inquisition operative, received equipment, recruited more than a thousand Ogryns, and obtained his Inquisitor’s Rosette.
  • Li Qinwu and Nova visited Thraxol’s family, where he fought off the old lion’s guards and the Second Young Master after they threatened Nova and her unborn child, then escaped with the ancient pine tree and its Terra Soil.
  • Li Qinwu gave Nova half the soil and entrusted the pine tree and the remainder to the old monk, then sold Sigurd 3,500 cakes of Holy Tea and received authorization to seek a capital ship from Mars.
  • Li Qinwu learned that Mars had no available warships and that taking over a nearly completed battlecruiser would require 410 million Thrones upfront and 100 million annually.
  • Li Qinwu brought the Broken-Winged Angel Chapter’s banners to Hero’s Tower and asked for the Bell of Lost Souls to be rung in their honor.
  • The cardinal demanded pontifical approval and paperwork, so Li Qinwu declared himself a Living Saint, but the cardinal rejected his claim and Li Qinwu left without securing the ceremony.
Chapters 777–801 Vol. 8 Read

Ch. 777Setting up shop tv2.1

Li Qinwu expanded the Golden Land’s sales from Power Swords and Masterwork Lasguns to custom ship repairs and manufacturing, earning money from pilgrims whose vessels needed supplies. After advertising the new services, he attracted more merchants with repair requests, including one whose damaged Macro Cannons still needed inspection.

  • Li Qinwu sold his stock of Power Swords and large quantities of Masterwork Lasguns, while only selling a dozen or so Bipedal Sentinel Mechs.
  • A merchant ordered one hundred air-recycling pistons, and Busi modified the production lines to make them; Li Qinwu completed the sale and realized the surrounding pilgrim ships offered a major market for repairs and parts.
  • Li Qinwu broadcast that the Golden Land offered custom parts manufacturing, Macro Cannon clearing, equipment repairs, and warship maintenance.
  • A merchant ordered twenty thick alloy armor plates to repair a decades-old breach, and the Mine Snail produced them in just over an hour.
  • A merchant asked Li Qinwu to repair two Macro Cannons damaged by space pirates, and Li Qinwu offered to send technicians aboard to inspect them.

Ch. 778Door-to-Door Repair Service

Li Qinwu and Busi brought repair workers to a merchant ship waiting in Terra’s crowded queue, where its merchant explained how he had fled his uncle after losing his planetary governorship. The merchant reassured Li Qinwu that he could pay for the repairs, and the story left them about to inspect the ship’s Macro Cannons.

  • Li Qinwu flew with Busi and nearly a hundred workers to the merchant ship, which was first in line after waiting three years to enter Terra.
  • Li Qinwu inspected the eight-hundred-meter Armed Merchant Ship and asked what cargo the merchant had brought to Terra.
  • The merchant said his ship was filled with natural water that he hoped to sell for a million Thrones.
  • The merchant revealed that his uncle had murdered his father and seized their planet, leaving him to flee with little money and seek a way to build wealth for revenge.
  • Li Qinwu worried that the merchant could not afford the repairs, but the merchant grabbed him and insisted that he had the money.

Ch. 779Local Specialties

Li Qinwu arranged a cheaper replacement for the merchant ship’s destroyed port-side Macro Cannons, and learned which goods Terra valued and what it exported. The merchant’s ship was being refitted with rocket launchers as Li Qinwu considered trading his supplies on Terra.

  • Busi reported that the merchant ship’s two port-side Macro Cannons were beyond repair and suggested replacing them with salvaged 1000mm guns.
  • The merchant said he could only spend 50,000 Thrones, so Busi proposed installing four 300mm twenty-tube Rocket Launchers instead.
  • Li Qinwu agreed to provide 500 rockets, and Busi’s workers began converting the damaged gun chambers into rocket firing chambers.
  • Li Qinwu asked the merchant what Terra bought, and the merchant explained that natural goods such as tobacco, alcohol, timber, and plants were highly prized there.
  • The merchant said Terra had few exports beyond art and reviewed official documents, and advised Li Qinwu to collect any dirt he found on Terra’s surface.

Ch. 780Mercenary Work?

Li Qinwu learned about the political and financial value of Terra Soil, then Dorodo asked him to help reclaim the throne stolen by his uncle. Li Qinwu considered expanding into mercenary work while earning a fortune repairing ships, and the Solar Lord sent someone to collect his Little Sun.

  • Dorodo told Li Qinwu that Terra Soil was extremely valuable and revealed that his uncle had killed his father and seized his realm.
  • Dorodo asked Li Qinwu to help him reclaim his Planetary Governor's throne, and Li Qinwu accepted the possibility while taking Dorodo's route and home-planet information.
  • Li Qinwu returned to the Golden Road and organized his workers into teams to repair ships and manufacture replacement parts.
  • Li Qinwu's workers soothed a troublesome machine spirit with prayers, adding a paid spirit-soothing service to his business.
  • Li Qinwu's savings approached a hundred million Thrones, and the Solar Lord sent someone to collect his Little Sun.

Ch. 781Scalper Tickets

Li Qinwu returned the Solar Lord’s child to his family but was dismissed with a payment instead of gaining the connection he had hoped for. After learning he could buy a scalper ticket to Terra, he planned to go there with Nova while his crew stayed behind to earn money and collect scrap for repairs.

  • A haughty noblewoman accused Li Qinwu of imprisoning her child, but the Solar Kasrkin Guard followed the butler’s lead and returned the child’s hibernation pod to the Shuttle.
  • The butler thanked Li Qinwu and gave him one million Thrones, then departed with the noblewoman and the Solar Kasrkin Guard without introducing himself.
  • The captain told Li Qinwu that Dorodo was selling tickets aboard his warship for ten thousand Thrones each, allowing passengers to travel to Terra.
  • Li Qinwu decided that he and Nova would buy scalper tickets and go to Terra while the crew remained at the Golden Road to take jobs.
  • The captain warned that repairs were consuming the Mine Snail’s steel reserves and proposed sending the Mining Mule to smelt abandoned space stations near Terra into steel.

Ch. 782Terra

Li Qinwu brought pregnant Catwoman Nova to Terra to meet Inquisitor Thraxol’s family and claim child support for her baby. After seeing Terra’s ruined surface and reaching its crowded orbital station, he used Thraxol’s Rosette to approach an Arbites officer.

  • Li Qinwu told Nova to conceal her Abhuman features and accompanied her to Merchant Dorodo’s ship to obtain two queue-jump tickets.
  • Dorodo waived the ticket fee and explained that a Terra noble had arranged to buy his natural water for a whale revived by the Moon Gene Laboratory.
  • Dorodo’s ship received permission to proceed to Terra, and Li Qinwu and Nova saw the polluted planet, its orbital structures, and immense Hive Cities.
  • Dorodo docked at a space station and separated from Li Qinwu to deliver his water, warning that Terra’s business could take months.
  • Li Qinwu and Nova entered the overcrowded station, and he displayed Inquisitor Thraxol’s Rosette as he approached a guarding Arbites officer.

Ch. 783Terra 2

Li Qinwu delivered Inquisitor Thraxol’s Rosette to Grand Mentor Sigurd and received a powerful token for Catwoman Nova and her child. Sigurd then asked Li Qinwu what he planned to do now that Thraxol was dead, leaving Li Qinwu weighing political protection against his independence.

  • Li Qinwu and Catwoman Nova arrived at the Ordo Hereticus office, where a trainee Inquisitor led them to Grand Mentor Sigurd.
  • Li Qinwu gave Sigurd Inquisitor Thraxol’s Rosette and relayed Thraxol’s final message about failing at Purple Diamond Star.
  • Sigurd mourned Thraxol, gave Nova a ruby ring as a gift for her child, and sent her to rest while he spoke privately with Li Qinwu.
  • Sigurd asked Li Qinwu about his plans after Thraxol’s death, and Li Qinwu considered whether to seek Sigurd’s support without joining his faction.

Ch. 784New Contact

Li Qinwu negotiated with Grand Master Sigurd for an independent role connected to the Inquisition, and Sigurd offered him limited investigative and judicial authority in exchange for heresy investigations and special missions. Li Qinwu unlocked Sigurd as a system contact and discovered a Political Points system that could help him influence Sigurd.

  • Li Qinwu hinted that he wanted guidance after Inquisitor Thraxol's death, and Grand Master Sigurd inferred that he wanted cooperation without surrendering his independence.
  • Grand Master Sigurd considered whether Li Qinwu's abilities justified accommodating his demands rather than treating him as a subordinate or refusing to cooperate.
  • Grand Master Sigurd offered Li Qinwu a Rosette with investigative and judicial authority, but no power to command troops or mobilize sector resources, in return for regular investigations and priority on assigned missions.
  • Li Qinwu accepted the prospect of becoming an independent, hired Inquisition operative, and the system unlocked Grand Master Sigurd as a contact with a mission to complete three heresy investigations.
  • Li Qinwu examined the system's Political Points, learning that he could earn them through missions and other actions and spend them to influence Grand Master Sigurd's views or decisions.

Ch. 785Ignatus Power Armor

Li Qinwu received Inquisition papers granting him equipment and a bodyguard unit, then went to the underground armory to choose his gear. He selected custom Heavy Ignatus Power Armor and discovered its strength and mobility far exceeded his previous armor.

  • Sigurd gave Li Qinwu authorization to collect Inquisitor equipment and staff, then returned to his paperwork.
  • A trainee Inquisitor escorted Li Qinwu to the underground armory, where a Tech-Priest showed him Ignatus Power Armor variants.
  • Li Qinwu chose the heaviest model, and Tech-Priests measured him and assembled a custom suit with an Astartes-grade power pack.
  • Li Qinwu tested the armor and found that it amplified his strength and speed while its refractor field protected him from incoming fire.
  • Li Qinwu concluded that the armor could let him overpower an ordinary Astartes and possibly contend with a Terminator.

Ch. 786Ogryn Bodyguards

Li Qinwu chose ornate weapons to complete his Inquisitor’s gear before visiting a vast Ogryn camp to recruit bodyguards. He prepared to give the Ogryns a speech about the God-Emperor, which could persuade many to follow him.

  • Li Qinwu selected a Double-Barreled Meltagun, a Bolt Pistol, and a Power Maul from the weapons rack.
  • Li Qinwu admired his gold armor and weapons, then asked where he could find the people assigned to him.
  • The trainee Inquisitor led Li Qinwu to a huge underground area where thousands of Ogryns lived and trained.
  • The trainee Inquisitor explained that Li Qinwu could recruit any Ogryn willing to follow him by telling stories about the God-Emperor.
  • Li Qinwu said he was ready to persuade the Ogryns.

Ch. 787Ogryns

Li Qinwu recruited more than a thousand Ogryns by promising to tell them stories about the Emperor and take them into space. After arranging their transfer to his warship, he received an Inquisitor's Rosette and officially joined the Inquisition.

  • Li Qinwu captivated the Ogryns with his tale of the Emperor and invited them to join him in space.
  • More than a thousand Ogryns brought their families and headed for Li Qinwu's ship, despite the apprentice Inquisitor's warning about the difficulties of caring for them.
  • Li Qinwu explained that he planned to raise the Ogryns on an Agri-World and use them for farming and future military forces.
  • Li Qinwu had the apprentice Inquisitor transport the Ogryns to his warship, avoiding the use of Psychic Power or portals on Terra.
  • The apprentice Inquisitor drew Li Qinwu's blood and used his DNA to make him an Inquisitor's Rosette, officially bringing him into the Inquisition.

Ch. 788The soil of Terra

Li Qinwu and Catwoman Nova visited Inquisitor Thraxol’s family to meet his parents, and Li Qinwu discovered that Terra’s soil stirred a powerful sense of homecoming in those who touched it. The butler then hurried them to the banquet hall, where Lord Trazyn and Lady Aral were waiting.

  • Li Qinwu and Catwoman Nova entered the Golden Lion Family’s spire to meet Inquisitor Thraxol’s parents while the family head was away.
  • Nova felt intimidated by the family’s wealth and status, and Li Qinwu reassured her as they followed the butler.
  • Li Qinwu asked whether the soil around the family’s pine tree came from Terra, and the butler confirmed that the family had brought in fifty tonnes of it.
  • Li Qinwu touched the turf and felt a profound resonance with Terra’s soil, which the butler said people could recognize as their homeworld’s soil.
  • The butler told Li Qinwu that Lord Trazyn and Lady Aral were waiting in the banquet hall, so Li Qinwu and Nova continued to meet them.

Ch. 789Family Banquet

Li Qinwu and Catwoman Nova attended a family banquet with Thraxol’s parents, who comforted Nova and discussed her future and the child she carried. Just as Thraxol’s father was about to offer her support, an angry old man burst in and called Nova a filthy Abhuman.

  • Li Qinwu and Catwoman Nova joined Telaxing and Aral for a private banquet in the Three-Tailed Lion family hall.
  • Telaxing asked whether Thraxol had died honorably, and Li Qinwu said he had fulfilled his duty to the God-Emperor.
  • Aral gave Nova valuable prayer beads and other protective gifts for her and her unborn child.
  • Telaxing offered Li Qinwu a chance to pursue Titan piloting, but Li Qinwu refused and defended his freedom.
  • After Li Qinwu ate more than fifty plates of steak, Telaxing began explaining how he would support Nova and her child, but an old man burst in and denounced Nova as an Abhuman.

Ch. 790Turning Hostile

Li Qinwu brought Catwoman Nova to meet Thraxol’s family, but the old lion returned unexpectedly and demanded that Nova’s unborn child be aborted. When he ordered his guards to seize her, they revealed that Li Qinwu’s psychic power had left them unable to move.

  • Thraxol’s father and mother were startled when the old lion returned and angrily denounced Nova for being an Abhuman.
  • Li Qinwu realized someone had brought the old lion back to undermine Thraxol’s parents, so he tried to leave with Nova.
  • The old lion blocked Nova from leaving, claimed her child’s bloodline belonged to the Golden Lion Family, and demanded that she abort the child.
  • Thraxol’s father protested that the baby was Thraxol’s only surviving bloodline, but the old lion ordered his guards to seize Nova.
  • The guards could not move and told the old lion that a High-Level Psyker was holding them in place as golden lightning flashed in Li Qinwu’s eyes.

Ch. 791Beating Up a Petty Man

Li Qinwu helped Catwoman and Nova escape the Golden Lion Family banquet, but a young noble and his guards blocked their way. After defeating the guards and two Psykers, Li Qinwu beat the noble, who had plotted against Thraxol's widow and orphan.

  • Li Qinwu used Gravity Control to immobilize the old lion's Power Armor guards, then led Catwoman and Nova out of the banquet hall.
  • Li Qinwu and his companions reached the lobby, where a young noble resembling Inquisitor Thraxol ordered guards to restrain Nova.
  • Li Qinwu knocked down the Power Armor guards and endured lightning spells from two licensed Psykers before striking them with golden lightning.
  • Li Qinwu used Gravity Control to pull the young noble toward him and beat him for plotting against Thraxol's widow and orphan.

Ch. 792They Took the Tree and Dug Up the Soil Too!

Li Qinwu escaped the Golden Lion Family’s guards with Catwoman Nova by opening a Portal, uprooting a treasured pine tree, and taking fifty tons of Terra soil. The old lion learned of the damage and roared over the loss of his ancient tree.

  • Li Qinwu knocked out the Second Young Master and opened a Portal when guards surrounded him and Nova.
  • Li Qinwu sent Nova through the Portal, then uprooted the old lion’s pine tree and pushed it through after her.
  • Li Qinwu lifted fifty tons of wet soil into the Portal, and he and Nova followed, agreeing to split the soil.
  • The old lion heard that the Second Young Master had attacked Nova and been beaten unconscious, then blamed his family’s infighting.
  • The old lion discovered that Li Qinwu had taken the pine tree and all the soil from its planter, and he roared in anguish.

Ch. 793Tang Sancai

Li Qinwu divided the Terra Soil with Catwoman Nova and learned from the old monk that it could be used to make valuable sacred artifacts. He entrusted the soil and an ancient Terra pine tree to the old monk, whose worship of them began to bring about an unknown change.

  • Li Qinwu gave Catwoman Nova half of the Terra Soil and promised to explain what happened to Inquisitor Thraxol after they left Terra.
  • Nova suspected Li Qinwu was lying about Thraxol's death and warned she would confront him later.
  • The old monk told Li Qinwu that Terra Soil held Votive Power and could be made into Treasure Artifacts without losing that power.
  • Li Qinwu gave the old monk ten kilograms of soil to study and entrusted him with the pine tree and the remaining soil to cultivate its pinecones.
  • The old monk treated the tree and soil as sacred relics, worshiping them until they began to undergo an unknown change.

Ch. 794The Old Leader Said Yes

Li Qinwu brought Holy Tea to Terra and used his meeting with Grand Mentor Sigurd to sell it. Sigurd agreed to buy all 3,500 cakes for ten thousand Thrones each after discovering the tea’s benefits.

  • Li Qinwu produced batches of Holy Tea and prepared 3,000 cakes of black tea and 500 cakes of green tea for sale.
  • The captain told Li Qinwu that Grand Mentor Sigurd wanted to see him, and Li Qinwu brought two bundles of tea to the Inquisition’s administrative building.
  • Sigurd confronted Li Qinwu about uprooting the old lion’s ancient pine, and Li Qinwu explained that he had done it to support the old lion’s pregnant granddaughter.
  • Li Qinwu presented Sigurd with black tea, and Sigurd brewed it, praised its flavor, and recognized its effects on mental strength and Psychic Power.
  • Li Qinwu offered his 3,500 cakes for ten thousand Thrones each, and Sigurd agreed to buy them all.

Ch. 795Procuring a Warship

Li Qinwu arranged a steady supply of Holy Tea for Sigurd and asked him to help secure a warship for his fleet. Sigurd refused to hand over Inquisitor Thraxol's former ships and sent Li Qinwu to negotiate with the Adeptus Mechanicus on Mars instead.

  • Li Qinwu offered Sigurd three thousand tea leaves every six months, and Sigurd promised thirty million Thrones for each delivery.
  • Li Qinwu told Sigurd that his two ships were too weak and asked for Inquisitor Thraxol's former flagship.
  • Sigurd explained that Thraxol's three warships would return to the Inquisition and become the subject of internal disputes.
  • Sigurd wrote Li Qinwu an authorization slip to seek a capital ship from the resident Archmagos at the Mars Terra Office.
  • Li Qinwu doubted the Martians could provide a ship quickly, but Sigurd told him to try before asking for further help.

Ch. 796Looking at Warships

Li Qinwu went to the Mars Office on Terra after Sigurd passed responsibility for his warship request to the Adeptus Mechanicus. The Magos showed him the warship models Mars could produce, leaving Li Qinwu to review their specifications and costs.

  • Li Qinwu took a grav-car across toxic-cloud-covered Terra toward the Mars Office.
  • A gust briefly cleared the clouds and revealed Pilgrims' Avenue, its crowds of pilgrims, and the restricted Ladder of Ascension and Hero Corridor.
  • Li Qinwu arrived at the Temple of the Machine God and met the Magos, who explained why he had few mechanical augmentations.
  • The Magos projected Mars's warship models and invited Li Qinwu to browse their specifications and construction costs.

Ch. 797Battleships

Li Qinwu learned that Mars could not provide him with a warship for two centuries, but found a battlecruiser that would be completed in thirty-five years. Short of the money needed to take it over, he asked what he could sell to Mars and received a pass for legal trade.

  • Li Qinwu reviewed ship prices and construction times, then learned that Mars had no immediately available warships and would take two centuries to build a new cruiser.
  • Li Qinwu asked the Archmagos about taking over a nearly completed vessel and learned of a battlecruiser due to launch in thirty-five years.
  • The Archmagos told Li Qinwu that taking over the battlecruiser required 410 million Thrones upfront, followed by 100 million annually, and that the Imperial Navy and a Rogue Trader family were also interested.
  • Li Qinwu asked what goods Mars would buy, and the Archmagos listed High-Purity Alloy Steel, STC Templates, alien technological creations, and precious Xenos biological materials.
  • The Archmagos gave Li Qinwu a Mars Pass so he could conduct legal commercial activities there.

Ch. 798Hero's Tower

Li Qinwu left the Temple of the Machine God without a way to obtain the warship his fleet needed and considered the risks of trading the Emperor's True One Armor fragment. He went to Hero's Tower to request that the Bell of Lost Souls be rung for the Imperium's heroes.

  • Li Qinwu concluded that his Emperor's True One Armor fragment was too risky and difficult to trade for a warship, so he set that problem aside.
  • Li Qinwu told his driver to take him to Hero's Tower because he intended to ring the Bell of Lost Souls.
  • The driver brought Li Qinwu to Hero's Tower, where the bell's history and its far-reaching effects were described.
  • Li Qinwu told the Imperial Cult personnel that he wanted to meet Hero's Tower's leader and have the tower ring once more for the Imperium's heroes.

Ch. 799Giving him the runaround

Li Qinwu brought the Broken-Winged Angel Chapter’s battle standards to the Hero’s Tower and demanded the thousand tolls owed to a destroyed Astartes Chapter. The cardinal acknowledged the banners but told him to leave and wait for pontiff approval.

  • A priest explained that a confirmed destroyed Astartes Chapter was honored with a thousand tolls of the Bell of Lost Souls.
  • Li Qinwu showed the priest seven company banners and the Chapter banner of the Broken-Winged Angel Chapter, prompting him to summon the cardinal.
  • The cardinal arrived, mourned the Chapter’s apparent destruction, and asked Li Qinwu how he had obtained the banners.
  • Li Qinwu said a Venerable Dreadnought aboard a Space Hulk had entrusted him with the banners and named the Broken-Winged Angel Chapter as the fallen Chapter.
  • The cardinal verified the Chapter’s identity and the banners, then told Li Qinwu to leave them at the tower and wait for the pontiff’s approval before any ceremony.

Ch. 800Fobbing Him Off 2

Li Qinwu demanded that the cardinal arrange a death-knell ceremony for the Broken-winged Angels Chapter, but the cardinal tried to bury the request in bureaucracy because the Chapter came from the politically sensitive Cursed Founding. Li Qinwu invoked his status as a Living Saint to force Hero's Tower to begin the approval process.

  • The cardinal tried to send Li Qinwu away and have attendants remove the Broken-winged Angels Chapter's banners because the Cursed Founding was an Imperial political scandal.
  • Li Qinwu stopped the attendants and challenged the cardinal to honor the dead Chapter's service to the Imperium.
  • The cardinal offered to seek approval in a few days and demanded that Li Qinwu submit a detailed form, which Li Qinwu tore up.
  • The cardinal defended the elaborate Great Bell of the Dead procedures, warned Li Qinwu not to cause trouble, and left while an attendant handed him fresh parchment.
  • Li Qinwu refused to accept the delay and declared himself a Living Saint of the Emperor, demanding that Hero's Tower place the ceremony into the approval process.

Ch. 801No Certificate, No Living Saint

The cardinal rejected Li Qinwu’s claim to be a Living Saint because the Imperial Cult had never certified him, warning him not to use the title. Li Qinwu was left alone in the reception room, frustrated that his accomplishments earned him no recognition.

  • The cardinal checked Li Qinwu’s records and told him he was officially only a Holy Warrior, not a certified Living Saint.
  • The cardinal warned Li Qinwu that continuing to call himself a Living Saint could bring him before judgment.
  • The cardinal and his people left, leaving Li Qinwu alone in the reception room.
  • Li Qinwu realized the Imperium would not bend its rules to let him ring the bell and show Saint Raiser a recording.
  • Li Qinwu packed away the Astartes banner and walked out of the reception room.
