Background / History

Chen Wuming was a hardcore Bleach fan whose greatest interest was its Zanpakutō, particularly captain-class weapons. Following his transmigration into Achill’s body and the fusion of their memories, he resolved to reshape Achill’s failed Requip Magic around those weapons alone. 1 4

The first Zanpakutō to manifest was Wabisuke, which appeared when Chen refused to die against Tucker. Its emergence established that the body’s Requip Magic could call weapons from the Bleach world rather than merely summon conventional stored equipment. 15 20

After first summoning a Zanpakutō, the wielder can retain it permanently in Requip space. During his later amnesia, Achill could still summon a handful of these weapons and instinctively knew both their names and the term Shikai, despite not understanding their source. 21 23

By the end of two years of solitary travel and combat, Achill had acquired several more Zanpakutō, mastered the abilities of those already available, and begun experimenting with simultaneous wielding. However, he was unable to summon any additional Zanpakutō during the two years before his reunion with Mirajane. 33 40 48

Requip Summoning and Storage

Zanpakutō are summoned from an unknown space identified as the Bleach world, then treated as weapons within the wielder’s Requip system. 20 21

• A Zanpakutō must first be successfully summoned before it can be used through normal Requip. 21
• Once obtained, it remains permanently in Requip space and can be summoned again directly. 21
• Recalling an already-equipped weapon to storage requires only thought; initially summoning a new Zanpakutō is much more difficult. 20
• During amnesia, successful new summons occurred only under unspecified conditions and only a handful of times. 23
• The wielder can immediately recall a thrown Zanpakutō through Requip Magic, as shown when Sode no Shirayuki returns after intercepting an ice spear. 22

Shikai

Each Zanpakutō possesses an instinctively known name. Calling that name causes a transformation known as Shikai, strengthening the weapon and activating an individual ability. 23

• Shikai release commands vary by weapon, including “Dance,” “Raise your head,” “Shoot to kill him,” and “Sting all enemies to death.” 16 20 27 49
• The transformed weapon can differ drastically from its sealed form, causing observers to mistake its release for extremely fast Requip Magic. 20
• Some releases affect the wielder’s mentality; Wabisuke’s gloomy nature gradually influences Chen toward the disposition of its former owner, Kira Izuru. 16

Zanpakutō-Enabled Movement

The Zanpakutō’s power allows the wielder to use Flash Step, an instantaneous high-speed movement technique. 16

• Flash Step enabled Chen to appear behind and kill both a water mage and his black-robed companion before they could react. 16

Limitations

• New Zanpakutō cannot be summoned at will; the first summoning process is difficult, and no new weapons appeared during the two-year period before Achill met Mirajane again. 20 40
• Some Zanpakutō contain higher, sealed powers that Achill can sense but cannot safely or easily release with his current strength. 33
• High-output techniques can heavily drain magic power, particularly Flash Step and Zangetsu’s Crescent Strike. 16 38
