His impulsiveness repeatedly creates trouble: he boards trains despite severe motion sickness, illegally takes an S-Class request, and instinctively confronts dangerous enemies 43 46 47. His enthusiasm for fighting persists even during peaceful periods. When bored at the guild, he proposes that Happy play a monster so that he can attack him. Inside the tower, Natsu fights the bird-headed enemy but lets his guard down and is swallowed. Gray defeats the enemy with Ice-Make Magic and rescues him 73 74.

Laxus’s Rebellion

At the cathedral, Natsu challenges Laxus after he attacks Erza and threatens her and Le Qi. Laxus easily breaks Natsu’s Fire Dragon’s Roar and retaliates with lightning. Gajeel rescues Natsu, then joins the fight 108.

Laxus reveals his Lightning Dragon Slayer Magic, surprising both opponents. Erza steps in front of Natsu and Gajeel to block Lightning Dragon’s Roar and is badly injured. Achill subsequently arrives, overwhelms Laxus with his presence, and sends the three away before beginning his own confrontation 108.

Natsu travels with Fairy Tail’s representatives to the alliance gathering at Blue Pegasus master Bob’s villa. Anima and the Edolas Threat

S-Class Promotion Exam

Makarov selects Natsu among the eight candidates for Fairy Tail’s annual S-Class promotion exam. Natsu confidently declares that he will pass and chooses Happy as his partner 214.

During the voyage to Wolf Island, Wendy refuses to relieve his motion sickness because they are opponents in the exam, while Lisanna comforts him. Freed’s Magic Array delays most teams aboard the ship before they can race toward their chosen routes 216.

Grimoire Heart and Achill’s Lesson

After reading Achill’s warning note, Natsu and Happy head toward the temporary camp to warn the others of a possible attack. They defeat a group of Grimoire Heart mages but are then intercepted by Zancrow, one of the Seven Kin of Purgatory 236.

Zancrow’s Fire God Slayer Magic overwhelms Natsu. He can devour Natsu’s fire, while Natsu cannot consume the black flames in return. Exhausted and badly beaten, Natsu recognizes Achill’s magic flaring nearby and is relieved when he arrives 236.

Rather than merely rescue him, Achill instructs Natsu to watch carefully and learn. Natsu takes the opportunity seriously because he refuses to dishonor the magic Igneel taught him. Even when Achill is engulfed by black flames, Natsu insists that he is too strong to die so easily 236 237.

Achill burns away the God Slayer flames with Golden Flame, then defeats Zancrow through the combined use of ice and fire. Achill senses the transformation from the camp and suspects Laxus’s involvement. Natsu witnesses the dragon’s overwhelming power, Makarov’s attempt to buy the guild time to escape, and Achill’s intervention 258 262. Fairy Tail’s missing core members are later found alive when Wolf Island resurfaces after seven years. Mavis’s Fairy Sphere had protected and sealed the island, preventing magical signals from escaping and causing outsiders to believe that those inside had died 272 274.

Grand Magic Games
