Abilities & Skills

Yin-Yang Dual Qi

Yin-Yang Ancestor manipulates black-and-white yin-yang energies for defense, redirection, and movement during battle.

  • Deflected most of Hongjun's palm force by turning his yin-yang qi sideways. 53
  • Used the Taiji Diagram to circulate and separate destructive demonic qi while retreating through the ruined Mount Sumeru battlefield. 54
  • His Yin-Yang Cycle could absorb and redirect an incoming bolt of purple lightning once, but it fractured under a subsequent attack. 54
  • Extended black-and-white qi in two directions to press down on Luohou's World-Destroying Black Lotus and draw Hongjun into the same attack. 53

Taiji Diagram

His principal spiritual treasure was the Taiji Diagram, which supported his Yin-Yang Cycle and protected him during retreat.

  • Recalled it to defend against Luohou's Godslayer Spear after Hongjun's attack forced him back. 53
  • Used it to envelop himself and maintain his retreat amid unstable demonic qi. 54
  • Was blasted away after the Yin-Yang Cycle collapsed, leaving Yin-Yang Ancestor exposed to Hongjun's lightning. 54
  • Maneuvered it throughout the melee to exploit openings against both Luohou and Hongjun. 53
  • Its protective power had already been weakened by the western Ancestral Vein's explosion; demonic qi escaped from it as its black-and-white energies circulated. 53

Equipment / Weapons / Items

  • Taiji Diagram — A yin-yang spiritual treasure used for defense, redirection, and sustaining the Yin-Yang Cycle; it became ownerless following Yin-Yang Ancestor's death. Hongjun retrieved it after the battle and later bestowed it upon Taiqing at the end of the third Zixiao Palace sermon, describing its ability to anchor Fate Aura and stabilize heaven and earth. Its manifestation then included a golden bridge that settled earth, water, fire, and wind. 53 54 139

Relationships

  • Qiankun Ancestor — Temporary ally in the post-explosion attempt to eliminate both Luohou and Hongjun. Both were killed when Hongjun's Three Corpses overturned the battle. 53 54
  • Yang Mei — Fellow attacker against Luohou and Hongjun; Yang Mei fled when Hongjun's Three Corpses overturned their advantage. Much later, Yang Mei dismissed the deaths of Qiankun and Yin-Yang as evidence that their abilities had been insufficient, underscoring the lack of lasting loyalty between the former collaborators. 53 54 148
  • Hongjun — Initially a collaborator against the threats facing the Primordial World; Hongjun named Yin-Yang among those seeking a solution to the Fierce Beast Tribulation and later invited him to confront Luohou. They became enemies at Mount Sumeru; Hongjun broke free of Yang Mei's spatial confinement, attacked Yin-Yang Ancestor, and ultimately killed him. Hongjun subsequently claimed his Taiji Diagram. 8 49 53 54
  • Luohou — Named alongside Yin-Yang among the cultivators seeking to resolve the Fierce Beast Tribulation. Later targeted by the alliance assembled against him and, after the western Ancestral Vein's explosion, targeted alongside Hongjun. Luohou counterattacked Yin-Yang Ancestor with the Godslayer Spear during the chaotic melee. 8 49 53
  • Taiqing — Later recipient of Yin-Yang Ancestor's former Taiji Diagram through Hongjun's bestowal; no direct interaction between them is recorded. 54 139

Story Role / Major Arcs

Earlier conflicts and recruitment

During the Fierce Beast Tribulation, Hongjun identified Yin-Yang, Luohou, Yang Mei, and Qiankun as fellow cultivators searching for a way to break the deadlock against the Fierce Beasts. The reference establishes Yin-Yang's involvement in efforts to resolve the calamity without detailing his individual battles. 8

Before the Dao-Devil War, Hongjun told Qing Xuan and Qing Yi that he had invited Yang Mei, Qiankun, and Yin-Yang to help confront Luohou, who was nurturing the Immortal Slaughtering Sword Formation at Mount Sumeru. Hongjun anticipated an exceptionally dangerous battle. 49

Mount Sumeru aftermath

After Luohou destroyed the western Ancestral Vein, Yin-Yang Ancestor survived the explosion alongside Luohou, Hongjun, Qiankun Ancestor, and Yang Mei. He joined Qiankun Ancestor and Yang Mei in turning on both Luohou and the injured Hongjun, judging either survivor too dangerous to leave alive. 53

The alliance's original purpose had been to oppose Luohou and his Immortal Slaughtering Sword Formation. Once the formation was broken, the surviving cultivators reassessed their interests rather than maintaining their earlier cooperation. Yin-Yang Ancestor used the Taiji Diagram to attack both opponents, contributing to the temporary suppression of the wounded Luohou and Hongjun. 53

Hongjun escaped Yang Mei's spatial trap and struck Yin-Yang Ancestor, creating an opening for Luohou's Godslayer Spear to force him onto the defensive. 53

Death

When Hongjun's Three Corpses entered the battle, Yin-Yang Ancestor attempted to flee under the Taiji Diagram's protection. He deflected one purple-lightning strike through his Yin-Yang Cycle, but a second attack shattered the cycle and knocked away the diagram. Purple lightning then pierced him, dispersing him along with the remaining yin-yang energy. 54

Hongjun retrieved the ownerless Taiji Diagram after defeating the remaining opponents. At the conclusion of his third sermon, he gave it to Taiqing as a treasure to protect his Dao. 54 139

Later recollection

When Luohou and Yang Mei met again in the Outer-Domain Demon Realm, their conversation recalled the deaths of Qiankun Ancestor and Yin-Yang Ancestor during the Dao-Demon War. Luohou mockingly asked whether Yang Mei had come to collect debts on their behalf. Yang Mei rejected any such obligation, stating that their deaths reflected their insufficient abilities. The exchange reaffirmed that their wartime cooperation had never amounted to a lasting alliance. 148
