Background / History

Tang San is an unusual soul from another world whom the Asura God secretly transferred to Douluo Continent and selected as his successor. Asura considers Tang San’s claimed willingness to endure humiliation without revenge evidence of an “impartial” character fit for the God of Law Enforcement. 26

Before Tang San learns of his divine backing, Chu Yuan identifies him as a future inheritor of both the Sea God and Asura God positions. Chu Yuan initially considers killing him, but divination shows that doing so would produce replacement figures with the same opportunities and eventually lead to Chu Yuan’s death. Chu Yuan instead begins disrupting Tang San’s future opportunities, including removing the Ice and Fire Yin Yang Well’s power and seizing the Vast Sea Cosmic Shroud. 4 9 15 16

At Shrek Academy, Tang San reaches Level 30 at age twelve and credits Yu Xiaogang’s teaching for his progress. A Rank Three God then informs him that Asura has chosen him to inherit the Asura Godhood. 27

Tang Chen later reveals himself as Tang San’s great-grandfather and brings him to Slaughter City for accelerated training. Tang San learns that he possesses the Clear Sky Hammer in addition to Blue Silver Grass, making him a Twin Martial Soul wielder and a descendant of the Clear Sky Sect’s founding line. 34

Tang Chen explains that Tang San must inherit the Asura Godhood within ten years. In Slaughter City, Tang San can absorb the Soul Power of people he kills, and Asura sets a condition that he must reach Soul Saint within three years if he wants his Shrek companions admitted there. 34 35

Personality

Tang San is ambitious and status-conscious. When the Rank Three God arrives, he deliberately behaves humbly to secure Asura’s favor; he later becomes excited by the prospect of becoming a God King. 27 28

He is proud and suspicious toward unfamiliar authority. He attacks Tang Chen with Blue Silver Entanglement, repeatedly insults him, and dismisses him as an impostor despite the overwhelming difference in their strength. 33

Tang San strongly desires family connection. Once Tang Chen establishes his identity and divine connection, Tang San readily accepts him as “Great-Grandfather,” partly because he lacks familial affection and wants belonging. 34 35
