Background

Rain is a transmigrator who arrived in the One Piece world three years before his first recorded bounty-hunting work. He awakened amid a pirate massacre in an unnamed West Blue village, where he found and ate the Rock-Rock Fruit while hiding in a cellar. His first kill occurred immediately afterward, when his instinctive stone transformation stopped a pirate’s scimitar. 3

The massacre destroyed Rain’s faith in the safety of civilized morality and convinced him that weakness invites death. He spent the following years training his body and Fruit power, hunting dangerous pirates throughout the West Blue, and becoming known as “Grayrock Rain.” 2 3

His inability to awaken Haki initially became a major source of frustration. Rather than rely solely on his Logia defenses, he deliberately sought stronger enemies and dangerous environments as “whetstones” for his growth. 3 5

Despite his detachment, he reacts strongly to exploitation of civilians. Forced labor, water hoarding, political corruption, and psychological enslavement repeatedly provoke him into action. He is exceptionally patient under pressure. Rain reaches Alabasta after defeating the Fang Pirates, but is captured while exhausted, robbed by Captain Gore, restrained with Seastone, and imprisoned beneath Nanohana. He escapes by deceiving a corrupt guard, then kills Gore, the guard, and the prisoners who abused him. 10 11 12

He subsequently allies with Farl’s rebels, targets water-hoarding officials, and becomes an enemy of both Baroque Works and the Alabasta government. His public execution of Governor Barman and release of Golden Sands’ water supply make “Grayrock” a feared name across the kingdom. 13 14 15

Crocodile’s intervention against Daz Bones nearly kills Rain and destroys his right arm, but Rain survives underground, awakens magma-based power, and returns to challenge the Shichibukai. He ultimately defeats Crocodile, neutralizes the palace bomb, publicly reveals the mastermind behind the civil war, and claims Crocodile’s bounty. 19 21 24 29 30

Siswal Liberation

While traveling through the Grand Line, Rain discovers Siswal’s population has been mentally enslaved by “Dreamweaver” Odel. He allies with resistance leader Bal, infiltrates Odel’s palace, and resists the Suggestion-Suggestion Fruit by using self-inflicted pain to break its illusion. 32 34 35 36

After Odel’s death, the islanders regain their emotions, pain, and exhaustion. Rain refuses the king’s offer to become Siswal’s protector, takes compensation from Odel’s treasury, and finds evidence connecting Odel to corruption within Marine G-2. 39

G-2 and Enies Lobby

Rain collects Odel’s bounty at G-2, identifies Brigadier General World as Odel’s smuggling partner, and kills him after refusing his bribes. He then steals an Enies Lobby Eternal Pose, leaving gold behind as payment. 40 41

Accused of World’s murder upon arriving at Enies Lobby, Rain uses the investigation as an excuse to remain on the island until the Straw Hats’ assault begins. During the chaos, he infiltrates government facilities, obtains Six Powers materials, loots Seastone supplies, and forms a temporary partnership with Robin. 42 43 45

Water 7 Training

After the Enies Lobby incident, Rain pays silent respects to the Going Merry and makes clear that he will not pursue the Straw Hats’ bounties. He then hides beneath Galley-La’s Dock One to repair and redesign the Bedrock while beginning formal study of the Naval Six Powers and Life Return. 48 50
