Luffy is impulsive, direct, and intensely motivated by food. He starts his first encounter with Rain by protesting the theft of his meat, falls asleep during a warning that Ace may be in grave danger, and later recovers from exhaustion after being given cooked Sea King meat 21 49 294.

His recklessness is inseparable from his loyalty. He storms Enies Lobby to rescue Robin, enters Marineford to save Ace despite facing the Admirals, and attacks Kaido alone after believing Nami and Chopper were killed 43 70 230. He trusts people on instinct, defending Rain as a good person despite Rain’s frightening reputation and later convincing Ace to lower his guard around him 29 72.

Marineford forces him to confront his weakness. Rather than immediately reunite with his crew, he chooses training so that he can protect them in the New World 83 95.
