Background / History

As the hidden leader of Baroque Works, Crocodile spent three years orchestrating a plan to take control of Alabasta. His organization manipulated the drought, framed King Cobra through the Dance Powder incident, infiltrated both sides of the civil conflict, and prepared a timed cannon bomb to massacre the forces gathered in Alubarna. 13 26 28

After Rain publicly executed Goldsand City’s corrupt governor and killed Baroque Works agents, Crocodile identified him as a dangerous Rock-Rock Fruit user. He dispatched Daz Bones and Paula to find Rain, then personally intervened when Daz was defeated. 15 17 18

Crocodile decisively overpowered Rain in the desert. His Sand-Sand Fruit weathered Rain’s stone defenses into dust, and his desiccation ability nearly killed Rain by draining the moisture from his arm. Believing Rain dead after the latter collapsed the ruins beneath them, Crocodile withdrew with the injured Daz Bones. 19

Rain survived, developed magma-based rock techniques underground, and later infiltrated Alubarna during Crocodile’s final operation. In the royal mausoleum, Rain used water to suppress Crocodile’s elemental body and magma to neutralize his sand. Crocodile’s defeat ended his scheme, and Rain turned him over to the Marines for his bounty. 27 28 29 30

Personality

Crocodile is calculating, ruthless, and deeply contemptuous of those he considers weak. He treats subordinates as expendable assets, dismissing Robin as a pawn once she no longer appeared useful and harshly reprimanding Daz Bones after rescuing him. 19 27

He is confident in both his status as a Shichibukai and the natural advantage of his Sand-Sand Fruit. This confidence becomes arrogance when facing Rain; Crocodile initially sees Rain’s rock-based powers as inherently inferior, only to lose composure after Rain develops magma and dismantles every part of his Alabasta plan. 15 19 24 28

After Rain disrupted Baroque Works’ operations, Crocodile treated him as a threat and sent agents after him. Their first direct clash demonstrated Crocodile’s elemental superiority over ordinary rock, forcing Rain into a near-suicidal escape beneath the desert. 15 19

Defeat in the Royal Mausoleum

Crocodile entered the burial temple after his battle with Luffy and attempted to kill Robin. Rain ambushed him, used water to suppress his Logia body, melted his poison hook, neutralized his bomb plan, and defeated him with magma and supergravity-enhanced obsidian attacks. 27 28

Capture

Rather than execute Crocodile, Rain brought him to the surface and publicly exposed him as the mastermind behind Alabasta’s crisis. Rain later delivered the unconscious former Shichibukai to a Marine warship to redeem his bounty. 29 30
