Background / History

Adams was born into the Willy family, a lineage of physicists whose members repeatedly died in laboratory explosions. His own parents were killed in such an accident, leaving his grandfather as his sole family. In 1497, his grandfather brought the enormous child to Ohara during a storm and asked Dr. Clover to investigate his abnormal growth. The examination confirmed that Adams was not ill; his body possessed a rare constitution that rapidly developed and strengthened under pressure. After entrusting Clover with Adams and the family’s physics manuscripts, his grandfather died. 1

At six years old, Adams was isolated by Ohara’s children because of his size. He ignored their abuse until he saw them stone Nico Robin for being a Devil Fruit user. He drove the bullies away, spoke to Robin without fear of her ability, and became her friend. Over the following year, he continued looking after her when her uncle’s household neglected and starved her. 2 3

After defeating a Sea Boar, Adams obtained and consumed the Mythical Zoan Baas Fruit. He spent the next two years training his body, swordsmanship, and Devil Fruit powers against sea beasts around Ohara. 4 5 6
