Background / History

Hongjun was one of the principal figures opposing Beast Emperor Shenni during the Ferocious Beast Calamity. In the following Dao-Devil Conflict, he became a leading figure of the Dao Sect and delivered the first large-scale Dao preaching in the Eastern Primordial Desolation. 447

When Devil Ancestor Luo Hou challenged the Four Ancestors at Mount Sumeru, Hongjun alone urged caution, recognizing that Luo Hou would not issue the challenge without adequate preparation. He nevertheless joined Ancestors Diandao, Yinyang, and Qiankun in accepting the decisive battle. 14 15 The battle ended disastrously: Luo Hou killed the other three ancestors, shattered the Western Primordial Desolation's Spiritual Veins, and left Hongjun to bear much of the resulting karma. 25 446

Following Luo Hou's transformation into an Extraterrestrial Devil, Hongjun signed a Heavenly Dao Covenant to enlighten the Primordial World and accumulate fortune. He distributed Dao Sect Fortune among the survivors of the conflict, supplemented Wangshu's fading fortune with his own, and continued seeking a means to resist Luo Hou's intrusion into his mind. 26 28 30 53

After attaining Sagehood, Hongjun opened Zixiao Palace in Chaos and preached the Dao to three thousand listeners. His teachings established the Immortal Dao as the mainstream path of the Primordial World, while his later sermons explained the Quasi-@@REF_ENTITY_11809263@@ path, Three Corpses Severing, and methods of attaining Sagehood. 67 128 179 480

At the conclusion of his third sermon, Hongjun merged with the Dao to repair the Heavenly Dao's deficiency. The merger made him the Heavenly Dao's spokesperson, but also subjected him to its influence; on some appearances, his body is directly controlled by the cold and impersonal Primordial Heavenly Dao. 184 185 412 447

Appearance

Hongjun is most often seen as an elder Daoist seated on a yellow prayer mat, holding a horsetail whisk. Before merging with the Dao, he is described as kind and benevolent; afterward, his manifestation is frequently cold, detached, and accompanied by an immense Law Golden Wheel. 13 199 385

Hongjun is cautious, patient, and highly strategic. He distrusted Luo Hou's challenge when the other ancestors were confident of victory, and he consistently weighs karmic consequences, future trends, and the stability of the Primordial World before acting. 14 15 239

He is also a committed teacher. His early preaching sincerely manifested the resonance of three thousand Laws, and he repeatedly guided cultivators—including Emperor Jun—toward paths suited to their own Dao rather than simple imitation. 17 18 178

After merging with the Dao, Hongjun's outward demeanor becomes notably impersonal. This detachment is not wholly voluntary: his true consciousness continues resisting the Heavenly Dao's erosion and seeks to preserve what independence it can. 184 185 446 447
