Ch. 301The Plan Moves Up
Plot points and events
- Captain Ironhook dismisses warnings about the Hunter Sifa, but changes course when told Sifa may be able to defeat the Great Tooth crew as easily as he defeated the Blood Shark.
- The pirates try to flee their hideout, only to find Sifa has already attacked. Using a Fire Clone, Flame Mines, and other abilities, he kills Captain Ironhook and several crew members in rapid succession.
- Sifa then confronts the last surviving pirate, threatening to kill him and use Spirit Channeling to get answers. The pirate gives in and identifies the group as the Great Tooth, a crew serving the Admiral of Blood.
- The pirates had come to Skye Island to investigate the Shining Black Star, which Senor believes may be a Sealed Artifact. They were expected to leave the next day, but the Admiral has ordered them to depart because he is moving a larger plan forward and gathering his forces.
- Sifa presses the survivor to explain what that plan is, leaving the chapter on a cliffhanger.
Character developments and interactions
- Sifa demonstrates his tactical skill and the breadth of his supernatural powers, combining traps, fire, cold, and Wraith abilities to overwhelm the crew. He is ruthless in the attack but offers the last survivor a chance to cooperate.
- Captain Ironhook recognizes the danger Sifa poses and acts decisively to escape, but his efforts fail.
- The surviving pirate shifts from panic and resistance to cooperation when Sifa threatens him. He reveals the crew’s mission and the Admiral’s order.
- Sifa and the pirates have no prior understanding or negotiation: Sifa attacks based on what he overhears, then interrogates the lone survivor for intelligence.
Significant themes
- The Hunter as an overwhelming threat: Sifa’s speed, preparation, and varied abilities make escape or direct resistance nearly impossible.
- Power and fear: The pirates’ confidence collapses under the force of Sifa’s attack, and fear becomes the means by which he extracts information.
- A larger conflict emerging: The Shining Black Star may be a powerful artifact, and the Admiral’s decision to advance his plan suggests the confrontation is part of a wider scheme.
