Livestreaming to the Twenty-First Century
The main plot of Pariah Nexus is:
The Sanctuary World of Paradise III was invaded by the Necrons, the city was reduced to ruins, and the Stasis Field of the Blackstone Tower enveloped the land.
The planet fell, Astra Militarum suffered heavy casualties. Many captured soldiers were taken by Zeras for physical and neurological experiments, turning them into numb, berserk, half-living zombies who were then released to roam the city ruins and attack the living.
Danica, the only Battle Sister Order of Our Martyred Lady survive the previous battles, prays in the ruined cathedral, with only Cadia soldier Audela by her side.
In the distance, an Imperium Thunderhawk Gunship was shot down, and Danica went to inspect the wreckage.
In the crashed Thunderhawk, all of Salamanders 'Sa'kan teammates perished, leaving him the sole survivor. With the ship ablaze and attacked by walkers, Sa'kan was unable to retrieve his teammates 'Gene-seed in time and was himself severely injured.
He entered the city to search for friendly forces, but instead discovered a group of civilian survivors hiding there—a Chaplain with four children—and resolved to escort them to safety.
Sa'kan and Danica meet and a conflict erupts between them.
Danica had seen the corrupted soldiers and suspected that these civilians had also been contaminated, so she wanted to eliminate them directly. Sa'kan insisted that the Mortals were innocent and that they should be protected.
Zeras has been researching Flesh Reversal Experiment, but has repeatedly failed.
He blamed his defeat on the sabotage of the remaining Imperium survivors, so he awakened the Deathmark, Necrons assassin, and ordered the assassins to purge all the living, with a focus on hunting down the Adeptus Astartes.
Deathmark is a phase assassin who can briefly traverse dimensions, silently approaching its target, and its Neural Shredder directly destroys the nervous system.
He looked down on the mission of hunting down humans, considering it a waste of his talents, but obeyed the Technician's orders and began to slaughter all the survivors in the ruins.
They then encountered Sa'kan and began hunting Sa'kan and his group.
Sa'kan escorted civilians to safety.
Everywhere were the corpses of the Astra Militarum and Astartes. The Blackstone force field of the Pariah Nexus continued to erode everyone's spirit, and the exhaustion, numbness, and sense of despair grew heavier and heavier.
The Battle Sister began to examine her own mind and discovered that her psyche had been affected. The Astra Militarum Audela beside her was not a living person at all, but a hallucination.
The Battle Sister rediscovered her faith in the Emperor and her protection of the common people. When Sa'kan was in dire straits, she rushed into the battlefield and was killed by the Deathmark while trying to cover the evacuation of the civilians.
Sa'kan lost an arm, but fought back and Deathmark Assassin, continuing to fight alone.
None of the Mortals that Sa'kan rescued survived. In the end, only a little girl Atiya made it out, but she was also corrupted by the Pariah Nexus and turned into Soulless Corpses, and was eventually killed.
He had seen that ending.
Sa'kan crawled out of the fire, rescuing people along the way, losing an arm in the process. In the end, only a little girl survived. The little girl walked through the woods like a zombie; even though she was alone, she kept saying "we."
He was then shot dead by the Astra Militarum waiting outside.
The screen was flooded with "Fuck!" comments.
The system says: [Because the storyline of the Pariah Nexus is so terrible that it has caused too much resentment among the players, the system has opened a special function to briefly connect with them and start a live stream so that they can witness the change in the storyline firsthand. Confirm?]
"?" Lin En blinked.
[The official explanation is that because Warhammer fans' resentment towards the Pariah Nexus storyline exceeded a certain threshold, the system could temporarily establish a cross-dimensional connection channel to present the host's actions in a live broadcast format, allowing Warhammer fans to watch and interact in real time via bullet comments.]
Lin En sat up a little straighter. "You mean you can actually communicate with people in the 21st century?!"
The system feigns ignorance: [What are you saying, host? The system doesn't understand. Are you going to turn it on or not?]
Lin En: "Is there any benefit?"
System: [If you wanted to take this opportunity to contact your family and friends to tell them your current whereabouts, you wouldn't normally be allowed, but I can pretend I didn't see this.]
Lin En agreed; it was something that was neither feasible nor impossible to begin with, and it was good to get some benefits now. "Deal, open it."
[Live stream is now open... Connected.]
[Twenty-First-Century Online Platform]
[Current online users: 13.]
The live chat is on.
The system says: [Already live.]
In reality, nothing changed on Lin En's side, except for the addition of a virtual, semi-transparent screen with constantly scrolling comments on it.
Lin En looked down at the screen.
A semi-transparent, illusory panel hovered below his field of vision, not obstructing his path, but merely occupying a small portion. Comments scrolled at the bottom of the screen, and in the upper right corner, a line of small text displayed the number of online users, next to which was the number 13.
There weren't many people at first.
Few people noticed the newly opened live stream room. Lin En's camera followed his perspective, focusing on the space outside the Porthole.
The live stream was just a few random people who clicked in by chance, with a few comments praising the beautiful starry sky and some asking what game it was. Nobody seemed to know what kind of live stream it was.
The starry sky effect looks really realistic.
[Indeed, the image quality is quite good.]
[This starry sky is really well done, which team is it from? Is it the new No Man's Sky DLC?]
[Where's the streamer? Why is there only starry sky? Streamer, come out and say something!]
[Wait, something's off about this perspective, is it first-person?]
Lin En originally wanted to take the opportunity to ask everyone if this was his 21st-century Earth.
But he opened his mouth, then suddenly stopped.
There's no need for that.
There's no point in letting his family know he's here; he can't go back anyway. It might even attract official attention, and even if he does go back, he probably won't have any peace and quiet.
inappropriate.
Forget it, let him just lie there and wait.
The comments were mostly meaningless, and Lin En didn't really feel like he was watching a live stream, nor did he want to watch them, so he simply ignored them and went about his own business.
The more you explain the bullet comments, the more confusing it becomes. The best way is to ignore them and pretend it's a video.
Lin En stood up from the command chair, "Phoros, how much longer Napheli Sector?"
"My lord, at full speed, it will probably take another three hours!"
Lin En nodded. "Try to go faster, our brothers and sisters are suffering."
"Understood!" Phoros looked down and adjusted the star chart.
The roar of Engine came from deep within the ship, a little louder than before.
As his perspective shifted, the scene transitioned from the space outside the Porthole to the bridge inside the Night Goddess, where the busy figures of the canned goods and the Mortals crew came into view.
[Wait a minute, something's not quite right with the art style of this bridge...]
[What new game is this? The character customization system is pretty good.]
[Wait, why is this blond hunk wearing a can?!]
[Golden Light crafted, gold-plated version of the Lamenters????]
[???]
[What's this????]
[!!!]
Holy crap!
[!! It's a new work!!]
The screen immediately filled with exclamation marks and question marks, followed by comments like "[I was wondering why I came across this video]".
Lin En subtly turned his head and glanced at Phoros.
Phoros was indeed wearing Master-crafted Power Armor today. The Lamenters Warriors had undergone a complete transformation, looking entirely different from before. Had anyone ever seen such a wealthy Lamenters?
The comments scrolled by, jumping up and down.
[This is hilarious! Which Lamenters recommended this?]
[Ha ha ha ha]
[Good, good, good, at least those Lamenters can live a good life now.]
Everyone assumed this storyline was from a newly created, well-made fan-made short film.
Wow, this picture quality is amazing!
[A new masterpiece has been born.]
[Seriously? This production quality is so good, are they out of their minds? Waiting for GW to take it over.]
[Was this made with Unreal Engine 5? How were the parameters adjusted? The filters are amazing, it looks just like reality!]
[It looks like it's made by Asia Asia!?]
[?! Niu Niu!]
[That's amazing!]
[With all lighting and shadows maxed out, there's still a water stain on the coffee cup on the Control Console.]
[!!! That Adeptus Mechanicus priest in the red robe! The gears on his clothes can even turn! Amazing!]
[Wait a minute, is this the perspective of a canned food? Who's the main character? I can't see the main character.]
[The camera is following the subject; the main character should be the one who just stood up.]
Which one? The blonde one?
[No, the blonde one is clearly an NPC; the camera is following another person, the one who just stood up from the chair.]
[I didn't see a face, only hands and arms.]
[Protagonist's Perspective? Immersive Short Film?]
