Pureblood Humans
After Tyrennius was placed in the Heroes' Mausoleum, the Blood Angels were to escort Lin En and the others to the Inquisition of Judgment.
The Blood Angels were only responsible for bringing them back; Tyrennius had only granted them a chance, and whether they could remain in the Imperium depended on the Inquisition's decision.
Space Marines are not superiors to the Inquisition, so they can only hope for the best.
Several Inquisitor from the Inquisition have arrived and are waiting in the monastery.
The other Blood Angels returned to their respective units to report for duty. The gray-haired veteran, accompanied by two ordinary Blood Angels, turned around, walked up to them, and nodded. "Come with us."
Cecilia stood ramrod straight and nodded politely. "Thank you for your help."
The veteran nodded to the former Battle Sister whose eyes had mutated, with a hint of regret.
The other two should be fine, but this Battle Sister is probably in serious trouble.
However, he didn't say anything, only saying, "Please come this way."
They were separated and judged by several Inquisitor.
Lin En followed the veteran up to the upper levels of the monastery, his mind a jumble of thoughts.
Having just attended Tyrennius's funeral, he now faces Inquisition.
Deep down, he was somewhat intimidated. The Inquisition was the most unreasonable group in the Imperium.
If anyone behaved in the slightest way, the Inquisition would deem them heretics and immediately execute them.
Their rules possess a kind of harsh beauty; for the protected Imperium group, this style of conduct certainly provides a sense of security, but for the individuals being judged, it is not so pleasant.
Lin En needed to prepare his explanation for lacking an identity beforehand, and also consider whether to reveal his Holy Light Blessing ability, or whether he would be taken away by the Inquisition.
Living Saint hold a high position in the hearts of ordinary people, but their position in the Inquisition is not so high. At least they are not revered. They are closely monitored and investigated, and may even be hunted down and studied by certain factions.
Even Living Saint like Saint Celestine would be deemed a fraud by the Inquisition and subjected to constant surveillance and confrontation.
The genuine Sister Stern, chosen by the Emperor, was deemed a heretic by the Inquisition and has been relentlessly hunted down and repeatedly wanted.
Being Living Saint isn't so easy.
Only those deemed pure and qualified by a joint council of the Ecclesiarchy and the Inquisition can be formally canonized.
After being canonized, they were enshrined and worshipped.
It's called offering sacrifices, but it's actually a disguised form of surveillance and imprisonment.
You don't want to be worshipped; you want to go out and participate in activities?
If you can't even tell your place, then I'm sorry, but we suspect you've been corrupted.
Once suspected of corruption, they can immediately be labeled as part of the Chaos Pyramid, arrested, studied, dissected, and executed.
The Emperor now sits on the throne in the form of a corpse, having exhausted all his strength to maintain the Astronomican Suppression Webway's suppression of divinity, and is no longer able to communicate with the outside world.
In times when the situation needs to be turned around, the Emperor will appear and possess you, but each time he possesses you, Emperor divinity will increase.
The Inquisition was directly under the Emperor's control. When the Emperor of Inquisition was the highest authority, on par with the Lord Regent. Therefore, in the ten thousand years since the Emperor lost his control, the Inquisition had indeed become too arrogant.
However, his system is quite different from the true Emperor's Blessing, especially since he is an unregistered person who appeared out of nowhere. It is estimated that if he goes to the Inquisition, the probability of being judged as a heretic is about 50/50, and the probability of being judged Living Saint is about 50/50.
I can't afford to gamble, and I don't dare to gamble.
If the Emperor were still alive, he would rush up to him right now and demand Emperor for him.
But now that the Emperor is gone, there's no guarantee of a response to his calls. If he's executed and autopsied by the Inquisition, who will he turn to for justice?
Unauthorized psychic manifestations, hidden Chaos Corruption — the Inquisition always finds a reason to call Golden Light light evil.
If the system were exposed to the Inquisition, it wouldn't be something that could be easily dismissed with a mere "Emperor Blessing."
It just so happens that Tyrennius hadn't had a chance to report the matter of the Holy Light Grand Enchantment yet, so the Inquisition only knew that he was a Psyker and was unaware of the Holy Light Greatsword.
The only known figure who can oppose the Inquisition and reason with them is the Lord Regent, Roboute Guilliman, the Primarchs of the Ultramarines Chapter.
He could have avoided the path of Living Saint siding with the Ecclesiarchy and the Inquisition, instead rising through the ranks of the Chapter Chapter become a key figure within them, a close confidant of the Lord Regent, and then attempting to contact the Emperor through the Lord Regent's channels to escape the Inquisition's control.
It's already been verified with Tyrennius; all his support skills are exactly what the Chapter desperately needs. Any Chapter Master with a brain wouldn't pass up a top-tier support character, and if he Chapter, he'll definitely be highly valued.
He had Thirty Days to fight, and he wasn't afraid of dying.
The promotion path within Chapter is open. As long as he can secure a relatively important position within Chapter, the Inquisition will have to get past the Chapter's hurdle if it wants to remove him.
There are so many examples in the Chapter that the Inquisition disapproves of but can't eliminate; those are the role models he needs to learn from.
For him, the Chapter would be much safer than the Inquisition.
Aside from Iron Hammer's identity being fine, Lin En and Cecilia are both in a bit of trouble.
Lin En is undocumented, and Cecilia has a mutated eye.
Iron Hammer's identity was naturally verified by the priests of the Adeptus Mechanicus. The Adeptus Mechanicus was a notorious fanatic of the Machine God and could not be corrupted. The Inquisition had no jurisdiction over him and simply asked him a few routine questions before releasing him.
Lin En is a bit of a problem. He's a Psyker, but he can't explain his origins, only saying he grew up in Terra, but he can't say the specific location.
And then he actually turned out to be a human.
The Inquisitor conducted various scans on him, confirming that he had no signs of mutation, was of sound mind, and had a normal physical structure, and was not Xenos in disguise.
The two Inquisitor presiding over Lin En's trial exchanged a glance, both seeing the same hesitation in each other's eyes.
We've seen plenty of Xenos trials, but this is the first time I've seen one that doesn't have any major problems but has some minor issues.
Currently, the spies infiltrating Terra are mainly Chaos Corruption and Tyranids Genestealer, both of whom are relatively easy to identify.
This... barely qualifies as a young man; he shouldn't be any of those types.
Should this person be found guilty or not guilty?
"Lin En."
One of the Inquisitor asked again.
"Your identity file is blank; there is neither an identity record nor a record of your awakened psionic talent. You were discovered by the Astartes of the Blood Angels Fifth Company on Istvaan III. Before that, you claimed to have grown up in Terra, but we can't find any record of your identity. Can you provide anything that can prove your identity?"
Lin En forced himself to remain calm. "Your Inquisitor, my father was once a merchant. When I was young, he went out and never came back. I only remember hearing people say that he might have encountered Aeldari Corsair, and then I lost my family and my surname. I was too young to remember my name, and then I grew up in the lower classes of several surrounding Hive City."
The 40K Rogue Trader, similar to royal merchants, have Rogue Trader headquarters in Terra. Terra is their center for retirement, storing their wealth, and training successors.
The Rogue Trader faction exists in the form of a dynasty, responsible for interstellar trade, bringing back alien artifacts, frontier resources, and intelligence on the expansion of new territories to Terra, which is naturally also very dangerous.
After a prominent merchant is murdered, his power will be quickly divided up by other dynasties.
Except for parts of Antarctica and the Himalayas, the entire surface of Terra is completely covered by a continuous network of giant Hive City cities, forming a planetary metropolis with a population of trillions.
In such a megacity with an uncountable population, the human registration records, ravaged by millennia of war, are so scarce they're practically gnawed away by insects; it's perfectly normal to have some unregistered residents.
The Inquisitor examined him. "But you cannot provide any specific location or information."
Lin En said, "Because nobody's mentioned it to me. Inside Hive City, nobody usually mentions the name Hive City, right?"
The Inquisitor frowned. "Watch your attitude, civilian. If you cannot provide evidence to prove your innocence, we may have legitimate grounds to imprison you."
Lin En said, "I only remember hearing someone mention ursh by chance, I don't know if it's the name of our area."
The Inquisitor's brow relaxed slightly.
Although Ursh is not the name of the Hive City, it is the ancient name of a region in Terra that corresponds to Central Asia. Few people know about it, and it is only passed down among some nobles. Even spies would know the ancient name of the Hive City but not the name of the city of Horde.
He's probably not talking nonsense.
Another Inquisitor asked, "Your psionic signature is not on file with any Scholastica Psykana. Do you think it's reasonable for a Psyker who grew up on Terra to never be taken away by the Black Ships?"
Lin En secretly rubbed her hand along the seam of her trousers.
Forgot about that.
The Black Ships is the Scholastica Psykana's mandatory recruitment system. All Psyker within the Imperium are forcibly registered and taken away by it, without exception.
Lin En had already come up with an explanation in the blink of an eye, and without blinking, he began to speak eloquently, "I think it's because I awakened relatively late. When I was a teenager, I became a servant of a priest of the Adeptus Mechanicus, helping him organize his experiments, and I rarely went out."
The priest always wore a hood, so I couldn't see his face, and I didn't dare ask his name.
"I saw the Black Ships, but I was just an ordinary person back then. I suddenly awakened when I reached adulthood. The priest was very impatient and said I was a nuisance, then I fell into a deep sleep, and when I woke up, I was on that Desolate Planet."
"I hid in dark underground caves for a while by stealing supplies from Cultists, and that's when I met Sister Cecilia. That's when I learned that the planet was Istvaan III..."
Brothers and sisters who traveled through time later, take note.
That's enough.
They only give a brief overview of the situation, without going into details. They're afraid to ask, claiming they don't know.
The more you talk, the more mistakes you make.
That's all he's said for now, and it's a mix of truth and falsehood, making it difficult to verify.
He arrived at Istvaan III, possibly because the Tech-Priest sold him to Cultists who took him Istvaan III for sacrifice.
It's also possible that the Tech-Priest found him troublesome and, fearing the Inquisition would discover he was hiding Psyker, simply threw him to Istvaan III.
Anyway, it's none of his business.
Today, he's a non-stick pan.
The system of Tech-Priest and the Inquisition are not the same system, making it difficult for the Inquisition to verify whether any Tech-Priest has done such a thing.
Then, this newly awakened Psyker, who was very useful to the Imperium, was rescued by Astartes warriors on Istvaan III and helped them thwart Astartes Cultists ' plot and the creation of the Warp Rift.
This sounds exactly like the story of an innocent and loyal new Psyker is rescued by the Imperium and rises to power, doesn't it?
"..." The two Inquisitor discussed the matter briefly.
The information they gathered from Cecilia and Iron Hammer was similar to what Lin En had told them.
In fact, they didn't care whether Lin En's story was true or not, mainly because Lin En was just an ordinary Psyker, and the damage he could cause by turning the world upside down was limited.
As long as he isn't a Tyranids Genestealer.
We still need to check this kid's genes.
The Inquisitor stood up and scanned Lin En's body again.
Completely normal, with no signs of Tyranids invasion.
The skull is normal, with no signs of foreign transplantation.
"Please come over here for a genetic test," the Inquisitor said coldly.
Lin En rolled up his sleeves himself.
He's not afraid of genetic testing.
The needle pricked the blood vessel, causing a sharp pain, and then a dark red droplet of blood was drawn into the analyzer's sampling port.
The machine hummed for a while, then a line of Imperium Standard text appeared on the screen:
[Pureblood Humans. No known Xenos gene fragments. No Chaos contamination markers.]
The Inquisitor took the report that popped up from the analyzer, quickly scanned the analysis results, and his brow twitched sharply.
Pureblood Humans?
He then handed the report to another Inquisitor.
The two Inquisitor lowered their gazes simultaneously, then looked up at each other at the same instant.
After tens of thousands of years of Warp travel, radiation, and genetic modification for environmental adaptation, there are almost no absolutely pure-blooded humans left in the galaxy.
In this day and age, there are only three categories of people who can be considered Pureblood Humans.
First, the top nobles at the top of the Hive City who deliberately maintain their bloodlines.
Second, some isolated agricultural/civilized worlds.
Third, some of the top families among the Terra Rogue Trader who emphasize bloodlines are generally referred to as Pureblood Dynasties.
... Doesn't this immediately align with his story about his merchant father and the family's decline?
Scratching his head.
... Could it be that all those outlandish and tumultuous stories this kid told me were actually true?!
I've put it in the main text because many people won't see it if I put it in the main text.
The idea that Warhammer doesn't have the concept of Pureblood Humans is an old rumor.
In the Warhammer lore, humans have the concept of purebloods. The Baseline Human, often mentioned in the official core lore Baseline Human, refers to humans who have not undergone significant mutations. The corresponding concept is the Unblemished Human from the Ecclesiarchy and the Inquisition, which refers to humans with pure Unblemished Human and no other genes.
From the Codex: Inquisition, Lexicanum: Human entry.
This includes the selection of the Adeptus Custodes, Adeptus Custodes members are chosen from infants of the great nobles of Terra who are modified from a young age; in essence, they are selected for purebloods.
How could a Western Imperium with aristocratic and religious aristocracy possibly bypass the issue of pure-blood status? Rather than saying it doesn't exist, it's more accurate to say it's so prevalent that the official lore doesn't explicitly mention it.
