Background

Kaido leads the Beast Pirates from Onigashima, an island near Wano shaped like enormous demon horns. Before becoming an Emperor, he was betrayed by Celestial Dragons during childhood; the experience left him with lasting hatred for the World Nobles. 60 313

His reputation as the “Strongest Creature” is supported by an extraordinary survival record: he suffered seven defeats, was captured eighteen times while challenging Marines and Emperors alone, endured more than a thousand tortures, and survived forty death sentences. 60

Despite his outwardly reckless image, Kaido is calculating enough to avoid attacking Whitebeard’s headquarters after Whitebeard regains his prime strength. Instead, he attempts to capture Teach as leverage for Jack’s release. 61 62

Kaido and Teach devastate Dressrosa with Bolo Breath, Conqueror’s Haki clashes, Thunder Bagua, Ragnaraku, and multiple Devil Fruit techniques. Kaido recognizes Teach as a worthy opponent and attempts to recruit him. 63

Teach’s Cerberus Fruit awakens during their battle, allowing him to rival Kaido more closely in physical combat. Their fight ends without a victor when Kaido agrees to pay 1.5 billion Beli for Jack’s return. 64 65

Yamato’s Departure from Wano

Kaido intercepts Ace, Teach, and Thatch as they attempt to take Yamato from Wano. He directs most of his anger at Ace, whom he views as someone trying to take his child away. 103

Although Ace, Yamato, and Thatch cannot seriously injure him, Kaido pretends to be badly hurt so that Yamato can escape. He admits to King that he deliberately allowed her to leave because Ace was strong enough to protect her. 104 105

Kaido is captured after going alone to Marine Headquarters to rescue Queen from an ambush involving three Admirals and Sakazuki. He is imprisoned in Impel Down and later displayed on an execution platform in Seastone chains. 137 142

The Beast Pirates, Whitebeard Pirates, and Big Mom Pirates launch a joint operation to rescue him. Kaido remains defiant while restrained, and the Marines admit they cannot reliably execute him. 140 142
