Background and History

Ziyang grew up with a timid mother and a violent father. Her combative manner developed as a way to protect herself. As a young woman, she sought security in relationships before deciding that strengthening herself was more dependable 13 14.

She falsely told the Spirit Sword Sect’s Second Elder that she was a woman from his past, giving him a red belt as a token of love. She later left him for a stronger cultivator. The deception kept him devoted to her for centuries; when he found her with her Dao Companion, their confrontation escalated into a dispute between the Hehuan and Spirit Sword Sects 3 12 13.

Ziyang left her daughter, Ran Zirou, in the Mortal World so she could grow up loved and secure. She nevertheless spent years gathering medicine for Ran’s Mixed Spiritual Root. Ran initially rejected and insulted her, then sought reconciliation. Ziyang accepted her, while also taking Li Zi as her goddaughter 19 20 21.

Appearance

Ziyang is renowned for her beauty. When she arrives at the Spirit Sword Sect, she wears vivid red robes; although her long-stagnant cultivation has left marks of age on her face, the narration describes her as a rose in full bloom 19.

Personality

Ziyang is sharp-tongued and quick to confront others, but she also responds warmly to people who understand her. Li Zi’s defense of her achievements moves her, and she later protects Li Zi when a sect master’s questioning reduces the girl to tears 13 19 78.

She is generous with cultivation resources and demanding about their use: after giving Li Zi a rare time-slowing formation, she personally guides her practice. Her trust in familiar people can make betrayal painful, but she acts decisively once Mo Feng’s infidelity and Tang Chengyu’s attempted coercion become clear 87 94 96 103 104.
