Background / History

Si Le was reborn a thousand years before the events surrounding the hairpin. He kept his true body in the Demon Realm while planting a soul fragment in the Cultivation World. The fragment, which looked like him and was taken for his soul, had actually been extracted from his father Si Yaoxie. Si Le intended its death to help Si Yaoxie pass an Emotional Tribulation, then planned to devour his father while he was vulnerable and become a Demon God. The tribulation failed, leaving Si Yaoxie unrevived 244 245 246.

In the previous life remembered by Ran Zirou, she and Si Le were lovers and husband and wife. Their renewed meeting does not restore that bond: Si Le finds his feelings diminished, while Ran is shaken by his distance and suspicion 226 227 280.

After the failed revival, Si Le rules the Demon Realm and seeks another way to seize Si Yaoxie’s power. He gathers captives for a sacrificial Formation and suppresses a Beastman uprising with lethal force. Li Zi offers him the Heaven-Defying Formation as an alternative, while secretly arranging to turn it against him. At its activation, she reverses the transfer and converts the surrounding Demonic Aura into Immortal Aura, dissolving Si Le, Si Yaoxie, and Ran Zirou 274 287 288 291 292.

Appearance

Si Le is described as handsome. His true body has scarlet eyes; he wears black robes and, on one occasion, conceals his eyes beneath a broad-brimmed hat 232 282 288.

Personality

Si Le is calculating and distrustful. He deceives his father’s guardians as part of his long-term plan, investigates Li Zi’s unfamiliar Formation before committing to it, and secretly has her watched even while considering her offer 244 282 287.

His desire for power is bound to fear of Si Yaoxie. Si Le wants to take his father’s strength, yet recoils at the memory of his father’s abuse when they stand together at the Formation. He is also susceptible to Li Zi’s invented claim that she is his mother: the possibility briefly comforts him, then fuels resentment over her supposed absence 281 283 290 291.

As ruler, he treats captives and dissenting Beastmen as expendable. He orders prisoners killed and personally executes Beastmen who question him 287 288 290.

Si Le developed Ten Thousand Bones Wither, a Dual Cultivation Method later practiced by Ran Zirou. He also arranged the placement of Si Yaoxie’s soul fragment in the Cultivation World as part of his attempt to take his father’s power 229 244.
