Background and History

Ye Qingchuan's mother forced him to train with a sword from infancy. He became an exceptional fighter before age five, but his father, Demon Venerable Ye Aotian, rejected him after judging his Root Bone inadequate for demonic arts. His mother subsequently took her own life, and his Devil Qi awakened amid the shock. At Cloudsky Sect, Ye Qingyao's kindness became a source of attachment for him 10 86 108.

In the original novel known to Ye Zhenzhen, Qingchuan becomes Ye Mochuan, abducts Ye Qingyao to the Demon Realm, and imprisons her in an attempt to make her love him. The resulting Immortal-Demon War ends with her suicide; he later dies after releasing the Evil Drought Demon in an attempt to revive her. Zhenzhen's presence changes the sequence of events, beginning with Qingchuan's early confrontation with his future rival, Shen Xingyan 7.

In the changed timeline, Qingchuan initially distrusts Zhenzhen because he can hear her thoughts. He nevertheless joins her efforts to expose Shen's intentions toward Qingyao, making talismans and helping protect their sect. Their bond deepens through sword training and Zhenzhen's efforts to keep his conflicting energies under control 9 45 77 89.

After his demonic identity is exposed during the Immortal-Demon War, Qingchuan refuses his father's demand to kill Zhenzhen. He later goes to the Demon Realm, drains the old Demon Venerable's power, defeats the First Prince, and takes the throne under the name Ye Mochuan 109 118. He marries Zhenzhen, though his attempts to keep her close leave her feeling confined. After her apparent death, he seeks the Five Divine Artifacts to revive her. The couple later hold another wedding in both the Cultivation World and the Demon Realm 113 117 129 140.

Appearance

Qingchuan has a pale, delicate face that others once criticized as insufficiently imposing. As he grows older, his features retain a beguiling quality 9 51 132.

Personality

Qingchuan is perceptive and quick to challenge an implausible explanation: he presses Shen to take responsibility for his contracted beast and later sees through attempts to win Qingyao with gifts. He can also present himself as gentle and obedient while behaving far more sharply in private 7 48 78.

His attachment to those he loves is protective but often possessive. He risks himself to rescue Qingyao, then grows jealous of Zhenzhen's closeness to others. As Demon Venerable, he gives Zhenzhen extravagant gifts while withholding her Heaven-Opening Sword because he fears she will leave. He refuses to kill her when his father orders it, but her apparent death sends him into an indiscriminate, Devil Qi-fueled rampage 58 85 109 114 127.
