Background / History

Ye Qingyao grew beside the Seven-Colored Heaven-Mending Stone as a spirit herb. After years of absorbing its spiritual energy, she took human form and became Ye Ruheng’s disciple. Ye Ruheng concealed her origin, but her healing of badly wounded Cloudsky Sect disciples drew attention to her unusual constitution 5.

In the original novel known to Ye Zhenzhen, Shen Xingyan deceived Qingyao into becoming his cultivation Furnace and helped destroy Cloudsky Sect. Ye Qingchuan later imprisoned her in the Demon Realm, and she took her own life to end the resulting Immortal-Demon War. Zhenzhen’s warnings give Qingyao a chance to avoid that course of events 5 7.

Shen’s courtship initially unsettles Qingyao: she recognizes that his declarations may be insincere, yet admits that his attention still makes her blush. As she learns more, she becomes guarded, repays him for an unwanted gift, and tells him plainly that she does not love him 10 19 48 104.

Appearance

Qingyao is described as exceptionally beautiful, with a delicate appearance compared to a lotus rising from water 5 19.

Personality

Qingyao is gentle and attentive, particularly toward injured people and animals. She treats a defeated tournament contestant and helps an injured Manman Bird search for its mate 28 40. Sheltered and inexperienced in romance, she initially struggles to answer Shen’s advances, but shares his messages with her junior siblings and takes their warnings seriously 10 12.

Her kindness does not extend to accepting coercion. When Shen threatens her companions, she fights back; when his father offers to spare her alone, she refuses to abandon the others 105 106.
