Background / History

Poseidon created the Sea God Godhood through faith gathered after he quelled conflicts at sea. He later passed the position to Tang San, whose conduct as Sea God left Poseidon resentful—particularly his interference with Douluo Star’s child of destiny and his neglect of the seas 2 35.

After returning to Douluo Star, Poseidon found Xiang Jun, a Spirit of the Ocean drifting at sea. He reshaped him into a human infant and, when Xiang Jun turned six, gave him the Sea God Martial Soul using his divine blood and remaining Sea God authority. He also trained Xiang Jun in the Golden Thirteen Halberds 2.

Poseidon took back the Seagod’s Trident from Tang San and anonymously reported him to the Divine Realm Committee. With Tang San occupied by the investigation, Poseidon continued preparing Xiang Jun to inherit the Sea God position, though the Godhood itself remained in Tang San’s hands 1 2 15 34.

Appearance

Poseidon appears to Xiang Jun as a towering phantom 2.

• Wears a gold-trimmed robe and a divine crown with a trident-shaped circlet 2.
• Is described by Xiang Jun as an imposing, somewhat roguish middle-aged man 2.

Personality

Poseidon is an attentive but irreverent mentor. He praises Xiang Jun’s progress, readily teaches him further techniques, and jokes with him rather than maintaining a solemn divine manner. His bitterness toward Tang San frequently surfaces in comparisons between the two successors 2 21 22.

He also insists that a Sea God should govern the ocean and respect the rules against unauthorized interference in the mortal world 2 22.

Sea God authority

• Intervened when the Thunder God fragment appeared to initiate Xiang Jun into its inheritance. Poseidon later said he had prevented the two divine powers from tearing Xiang Jun apart 35 36.
