Background and History

Jiujiu lost her mother at a young age. Her elder brother, Xu Jiawei, is more than twenty years older than her; although he dotes on her, his responsibilities as emperor leave him little time to spend with her. As an imperial princess, she grows up expecting that her marriage may be arranged for the family’s interests 28 32.

Xu Jiujiu and her protector, Man Yi, intervene when guards from the Duke’s Estate pursue Huo Yuhao and his injured mother. Jiujiu gives them shelter in a family-owned courtyard in Star Luo City and arranges medical care. She sees both Yuhao’s talent and his estrangement from the White Tiger Duke’s household as reasons to support him; the two agree to work together with imperial backing 3 4 5 6.

She supplies Yuhao with medicinal treasures and Whale Rubber to strengthen his body before his first Spirit Ring hunt. Later, she arranges protection for the hunt, finds him a Soul Tool teacher, and gives him a defensive Soul Tool. She also reports his unusual abilities to her brother, Emperor Xu Jiawei, while pressing him to provide Yuhao with resources 7 8 15 16 17.

After Yuhao’s first hunt, Jiujiu witnesses his Spiritual Detection Sharing, Four-Not-Like Martial Soul, and innate Ceasefire Domain. She reports these discoveries to Xu Jiawei and learns that he hopes Yuhao can eventually replace Dai Hao in command of the Mingdou Defense Line. When her brother first suggests a romantic match, she insists that she regards Yuhao as a younger brother, though the suggestion subsequently makes her more self-conscious around him 14 15 17.

Jiujiu watches Yuhao auction a Soul Tool of his own manufacture and learns from Cheng Shitao that he has become a level-two Soul Engineer in a year and a half. She is proud of his talent but remains concerned that Soul Tool studies could detract from his cultivation. When Yi Yin attempts to abduct Yuhao and Yipu demands his release, she orders both father and son handed over to the emperor after their defeat 18 19.

After Yuhao goes missing in the Extreme North, Jiujiu seeks help from Xu Jiawei and tries to comfort Huo Yun’er. Yuhao returns safely, and he and Jiujiu later agree to an engagement, which Huo Yun’er approves. Following Huo Yun’er’s death, Jiujiu visits Yuhao almost daily and urges him to take breaks from his relentless training. Before he leaves for Shrek Academy, she gives him herbs and rare materials, then kisses him goodbye 28 29 32 35 37.

During the search for Yuhao, Jiujiu asks to accompany the rescuers, but Xu Jiawei forbids her from entering the dangerous Extreme North. After Yuhao returns with the Snow Empress, Jiujiu invites the powerful senior to remain in the Star Luo Empire and promptly informs her brother of her agreement. She later escorts Yuhao and the Snow Empress to meet the emperor 28 29 30.

Xu Jiawei arranges the engagement after Yuhao admits that he likes Jiujiu and she states that she has no objection to marrying him. In the following months, Yuhao regularly helps her at the Starlight Auction House, while she also assists her brother with imperial paperwork. At Huo Yun’er’s deathbed, Jiujiu promises to take good care of Yuhao 31 32 33.

After three years of Yuhao’s intensive training, Jiujiu arranges a day off with Cheng Shitao and receives the Snow Empress’s approval to take him out. During their outing, she buys matching smiling-face masks and tells him that his mother would not want him to remain miserable. She accepts his decision to attend Shrek Academy instead of Star Luo Royal Academy, despite the long separation it entails. At their farewell, he promises to return when school is out, and she says she will bring him home herself if he fails to do so 35 36 37.

During his time at Shrek, Yuhao continues to speak warmly of Jiujiu. Ma Xiaotao hears about her repeatedly over three months and notices the radiant smile he wears whenever he mentions her. This familiarity leads Xiaotao to mistake Di Qiu’er for Jiujiu when Yuhao brings Qiu’er to the academy; Jiujiu herself does not appear in that encounter 102.

Appearance

Jiujiu has purple hair and violet eyes. Her clothing includes purple dresses, and she sometimes wears her hair in a high ponytail 17 30.

Personality

Jiujiu’s care for Yuhao is practical: she secures treatment, food, equipment, teachers, and guards for him. She is also open about the political value of his identity rather than hiding it when he confronts her. As they grow closer, she becomes protective of his well-being beyond his usefulness to the Empire, especially after his mother’s death 5 6 17 28 35.

She is decisive when Yi Yin and Yipu threaten people at the Starlight Auction House, ordering both handed over to the emperor. Around Yuhao, she is often teasing and affectionate, though their growing closeness can leave her embarrassed 19 30 32.

Her usual composure can give way to intense anxiety when Yuhao is in danger. Xu Jiawei observes that she behaves very differently whenever Yuhao is involved, and she uses her connections to make trouble for Yi Yin after his attempt against him. Her generosity toward Yuhao extends to taking so many medicinal herbs and rare materials from her brother’s private treasury that its corresponding cabinets are nearly emptied 28 29 37.

Jiujiu tries to recreate Huo Yun’er’s cooking to comfort Yuhao after his mother’s death, persisting despite consistently poor results. She also recognizes his need for rest and companionship, encouraging him to leave the courtyard and regain some enjoyment of ordinary life 35 36.

Abilities and Skills

Star Crown Martial Soul

Jiujiu possesses an ancestral form of the Star Crown Martial Soul with a diminished prophetic ability. Its intuition leads her to believe Yuhao will prove extraordinary, though she receives no specific vision about him 5.

• Her Star Crown appears as a blue-and-gold, gem-studded crown 14.
• Three Spirit Rings are shown when she summons it: two yellow and one purple 14.
• Man Yi regards her as the imperial family’s greatest talent in five hundred years. She is the first member of the family in four thousand years whose Star Crown has reverted to this ancestral form 5.
• The ancient Star Crown’s prophetic powers could help its bearers seek fortune, avoid disaster, and glimpse the future. The diminished ability available in Jiujiu’s era provides only passive glimpses; her guidance toward Yuhao is associated with the one occasion on which she has used prophecy 5 14.
• While testing Yuhao’s Ceasefire Domain through Martial Soul Possession, she senses that it weakens her offensive Soul Skills by forty percent 14.
• Xu Jiawei notices that her cultivation has accelerated during the year or so following Yuhao’s acquisition of his auspicious Second Martial Soul. This is among the observations that lead him to identify Yuhao as a Child of Destiny 31.

Administration and Resource Management

Jiujiu helps manage the Starlight Auction House and assists Xu Jiawei with official documents. She can arrange guards, medical treatment, instruction, and access to valuable cultivation resources through her imperial position 5 8 15 16 32 36.

She selects equipment with Yuhao’s limitations in mind, rejecting defensive Soul Tools that are too weak or consume too much Soul Power in favor of a rechargeable bracelet. She also declines to choose a Spirit Bone from the Royal Treasury because even its best available specimen is only around ten thousand years old, which she considers unsuitable for his potential 16.

Cooking

Jiujiu’s cooking is notably poor despite her attempts to follow Huo Yun’er’s methods. After three years of practice, her grilled fish is edible but still partly charred and unpleasantly seasoned. One of her dishes kills a century-old Soul Beast kept by the imperial family, and her purple sweet potato and lotus root soup leaves Yuhao unconscious for half an hour at his farewell dinner 35 37.

She does not perceive her food as being nearly as bad as others find it. Ye Fei examines her at Xu Jiawei’s request but finds no medical problem; they conclude that her sense of taste differs from other people’s 37.

By his departure for Shrek, they have spent nearly five years together, and he considers her one of his few remaining family members. He continues to mention her affectionately at the academy 37 102.
