Background and History

Aogetsu is a transmigrator whose evolved Byakugan manifests as the Tenseigan. His power brought him prominence unusually early: after his promotion at eight, his twenty S-rank missions at nine made his name known across the shinobi world. Hiashi later acknowledged that Aogetsu had surpassed him as a child and asked him to lead the Hyuga clan 1 2 3.

Kakashi repeatedly asked Aogetsu to take charge of Team 7. Aogetsu initially resisted, then accepted after the Mentor-Disciple System bound him to the team and offered rewards for its training. Hiruzen entrusted him with the students despite concern over his unexplained eyes and unpredictable conduct. Aogetsu challenged Hiruzen over Naruto’s treatment as the Nine-Tails’ vessel 2.

He delayed Team 7’s ordinary missions to teach chakra control. In the bell test, he deliberately left an opening the students could exploit; later, he tailored tree-climbing instruction to each of them. Aogetsu is irreverent toward rank and authority, openly money-minded, and fond of provoking opponents and acquaintances alike. He rejects becoming Hokage because he views the office as a loss of personal freedom. He tells Konan that he wants power for his own satisfaction and to avoid ever feeling helpless again, tracing that resolve to an abduction in childhood 17 76 84.

His apparent laziness conceals careful technical instruction. He adapts lessons to individual students, protects them in dangerous fights, and sometimes lets them face setbacks so they will improve. His investment is not wholly selfless: their achievements earn him system rewards.
