Background / History

The Uchiha helped found Konoha, but their relationship with the Senju remained hostile generations later. Within the clan, strength strongly influenced how members were treated. Liuyun was neglected when considered untalented; after he displayed Ice Release and defeated Minato Namikaze, clan head Fuchu offered him housing and elite benefits 4 9 10 22.

Fugaku’s harassment of Mikoto brought Liuyun into conflict with Fuchu. After Liuyun overwhelmed the clan head and his guards with genjutsu, Fuchu abandoned direct confrontation. First Elder Oda later ordered first-class treatment for Liuyun and assigned guards to Mikoto. Liuyun remained distant from the clan, though he promised Oda he would intervene if it faced extinction 14 17 28 32.

Liuyun subsequently warned the clan that harsh policing, arrogance, and unanswered accusations were driving villagers and allied minor clans away. His reform plan called for more approachable patrols and direct responses to rumors. The Uchiha began helping residents and publicly exposed paid accusers; the effort improved their standing and helped prepare support for the threatened Senju 73 74 75.

Liuyun became clan head but delegated routine decisions to Fugaku. He later handed Fugaku full responsibility. After Oda’s death and renewed criticism of Liuyun within the clan, Liuyun declared that he was cutting ties with it 104 105 119 121 127.

Following the Nine-Tails attack, suspicion fell on the Uchiha because the masked attacker had a Sharingan. Hiruzen urged Fugaku to revive Liuyun’s earlier trust-building strategy. Later accounts describe an Uchiha clan massacre; Sasuke is described as its apparent last survivor, while Izumi says she had already severed her ties with the clan 162 210 233.
