History

Atlas brought Thriller Bark to Marineford, where it was refitted as a warship. The Marine Science Unit added propulsion and altered its bridge and power systems; Atlas assisted with the work using the Chicken Talisman. Atlas then named the vessel after the Marine epithet “White Hou” 89 93.

The ship later served as Atlas’s flagship on missions to Amazon Lily, Fish-Man Island, and the Calm Belt. It also carried Marines during clashes with Byrnndi World and Redfield 138 165 178 183 214.

Appearance

The White Hou retains much of Thriller Bark’s overall shape but has a silver-white hull and a raised figurehead depicting the mythical Hou 93 165.

• Scale: An island-sized, three-masted ship described as the world’s largest of its kind 138 165.
• Figurehead: A silver-white beast with deerlike antlers, a camellike head, catlike ears, a lion’s mane, eaglelike front claws, and tigerlike hind paws 93.
• Armament: Cannon muzzles line its sides; it flies a blue Marine seagull flag 165.

Systems and Capabilities

Propulsion and movement

• A Marine Science Unit power system allows the White Hou to travel without relying on sails; flames stream from its stern when it races across the sea 141 178.
• Atlas can also control the ship’s movement with the Chicken Talisman, including making it hover 141 165.

Firepower and protection

• The ship can bombard targets: Sengoku ordered it to fire on pirate ships in Marineford’s harbor 146.
• Atlas describes it as exceptionally tough, but its hull began to break apart under the force of Atlas’s battle with Redfield. Atlas used the Chicken Talisman to hold it together 187 213 214.
• Atlas has concealed the ship during journeys between the New World and Marine Headquarters. Its size makes invisibility a potential hazard around Sea Kings, which might fail to see it and collide with it 138 165.

Undersea travel

• Atlas took the White Hou toward Fish-Man Island without coating it, parting the seawater to clear a route around the ship 165 166.
• Its size could have endangered Fish-Man Island’s enclosing bubble, so the Marines arranged to enter through proper channels 167.
