Origins

Madara describes Chakra as power that originally belonged to the God Tree. In his account, Kaguya Ōtsutsuki gained it by eating the tree’s fruit 117. Kaguya later explains that her clan plants God Trees on other planets and harvests Chakra Fruits from the living beings there 118.

Use and Limitations

• Reserves can grow: Yoru’s daily system reward is a small Chakra Fruit that increases his Chakra slightly. It is explicitly not a God Tree fruit; the system also awards a Kage-level Chakra Fruit that someone else may consume 5 15.
• Techniques consume Chakra: Creating Shadow Clones divides the user’s available Chakra, while powerful techniques can rapidly exhaust a fighter. Shisui retreats when his Chakra runs low 12 78.
• Chakra can be absorbed or drained: Samehada absorbs Chakra, the Preta Path absorbs Jiraiya’s combined Sage Art, and Nagato’s Wood Release drains Deidara. The God Tree drains living shinobi through its branches 31 70 79 117.
• Amount does not guarantee control: Naruto’s surging Nine-Tails Chakra makes him dangerous to allies as well as enemies. Yoru chooses not to control the fox with genjutsu, wanting Naruto to build a genuine relationship with it instead 22 91.
