Background / History
Internal struggles drove several outcast branches of the Sun Moon imperial family to settle on Phoenix God Continent over tens of thousands of years. These emigrant lineages later produced the Purple Radiance Sect and Xu Yi, the Spirit Hall Empire’s leading scientific authority 12 15.
Several thousand years before the current events, Sun Moon Continent crossed the seas and collided with Douluo Continent. According to Qian Renxue, the resulting war nearly brought Douluo Continent under Sun Moon control and almost changed its name 9.
Leadership and Institutions

Military and Technology
Soul Engineer Corps
- Two Sun Moon Soul Engineer corps jointly inflicted a crushing defeat on the Star Luo Empire’s Northwestern Army Group under White Tiger Duke Dai Hao, causing more than ten thousand casualties 4.
- Jing Hongchen claims that Douluo Continent uses discarded Sun Moon designs and leaked blueprints that are generations old. Xu Jiawei privately acknowledges the technological disadvantage 4.
- The empire’s engineers openly boast of eventual domination of Douluo Continent, with one predicting its renaming as Sun Moon Continent 4.
Fixed Soul Cannon Shells
- Level 9 Fixed Soul Guidance Shells are the empire’s strongest documented shells and serve as strategic deterrents against Douluo Continent 5.
- Production consumed centuries of accumulated resources but yielded only a handful. Fan Yu reports that no more than five are said to exist 5.
- A single shell is described as comparable to a Limit Douluo’s full-force strike and capable of instantly destroying a large city 5.
| Benchmark | Sun Moon Empire | Comparison |
|---|---|---|
| Fixed Soul Cannon Shells | Possesses a few Level 9 shells; Level 10 remains theoretical 5. | Spirit Hall Empire successfully test-fires the Level 12 Gods’ Dusk and begins mass production 4. |
| Humanoid Soul Tools | Virtue Hall remains at the blueprint and first-prototype stage, unable to make its prototype walk reliably 14. | Phoenix God Continent already possesses Mecha and Soul Master–fusing Battle Armor 13 14. |
| Flying Soul Tools | Carries only one or two people and requires the user’s Soul Power 23. | Spirit Hall Empire deploys enormous flying warships, including a flagship likened to a flying mountain 23. |
| Overall technological gap | Kong Deming estimates that Sun Moon technology trails Phoenix God Continent by at least ten thousand years 6. | This is his assessment of its ability to mass-produce Level 12 shells, not a demonstrated Sun Moon advancement 6. |
Materials
- Black Tortoise Fine Gold strongly resists Soul Power and Soul Skills. Its scarcity limits Sun Moon use to thin protective coatings on important large Soul Tools 12.
- The Sky Screen shows a Purple Radiance Sect boy shattering a three-inch plate of the metal. Sun Moon observers are astonished; the sect reveals that he used Battle Armor 12.
Imperial Bloodlines
Sun Martial Soul
- The Sun Martial Soul is inherited within the imperial family, but its Sun Moon version does not possess two Ultimate Attributes 14.
- Xu Yi’s ancestor emigrated to Phoenix God Continent ten thousand years earlier to escape internal strife. A Phoenix God blessing elevated that lineage’s Sun Martial Soul to Ultimate Light and Ultimate Fire 15.
- Xu Yi is identified as possessing the imperial family’s purest bloodline. Xu Yutian fears that his ancestry, Quasi-God strength, Battle Armor, and god-level Mecha could persuade Sun Moon subjects to welcome him rather than defend the reigning emperor 15.
Purple Brilliant Heaven Destroying Dragon
- Members of the royal family occasionally awaken the Purple Brilliant Heaven Destroying Dragon, including Crown Prince Xu Tianran 12.
- An emigrant descendant established a stable inheritance through the Purple Radiance Sect. The Phoenix God raised that lineage’s destructive attribute to the Ultimate level 12.
- The Sky Screen ranks the Martial Soul eighth, lowering its placement because the weaker Sun Moon version also exists. Xu Tianran takes the comparison as a personal affront 12.
Story Role / Major Arcs
Technological Superiority Challenged
The empire initially celebrates its victory over Star Luo and boasts that its Soul Tools are invincible. The announcement of Spirit Hall’s mass-produced Level 12 shells abruptly silences those claims 4 5.
Kong Deming’s assessment turns disbelief into alarm, but Sun Moon leaders also see an opportunity: Xu Yutian, Kong Deming, and Jing Hongchen privately hope that even a fragment of Phoenix God technology could enable them to conquer Douluo Continent 6.
Failed Technology Exchange
Xu Yutian publicly proposes an academic exchange with the Spirit Hall Empire. Xu Yi refuses, comparing their technological difference to the gap between a human and a paramecium. The insult leaves Xu Yutian coughing blood and requiring an imperial physician 7.
Further revelations expose Virtue Hall’s unfinished humanoid project and Xu Yi’s superior imperial bloodline. Jing Hongchen resolves to visit Phoenix God Continent, while Xu Yutian becomes increasingly fearful for his political legitimacy 14 15.
Relationships
- Star Luo Empire — Military enemy and technological rival. Sun Moon corps devastate its Northwestern Army Group; Xu Jiawei subsequently seeks Spirit Hall technology as a means of reversing the imbalance 4 6 7.
- Spirit Hall Empire — Technologically superior power that rejects Sun Moon’s exchange proposal and declares its intention to conquer both other continents 7.
- Shrek Academy — Educational rival. Sun Moon excels in Soul Engineer training but acknowledges Shrek’s stronger conventional Soul Master education 13.
- Purple Radiance Sect — Founded by an emigrant imperial descendant; its enhanced Martial Soul lineage surpasses the corresponding Sun Moon inheritance 12.
- Xu Yi — A member of an emigrant imperial lineage serving the Spirit Hall Empire. His bloodline and overwhelming strength represent a potential challenge to Xu Yutian’s rule, though no Sun Moon succession attempt is documented 15.
