Background / History

Modern origins and rebirth

Luoshui comes from the Dragon Nation’s Wenren family, a prominent lineage of Celestial Masters. As a child, she practiced drawing talismans under her Junior Martial Uncle, who disappeared when she was ten. She later lived through an apocalypse and undertook missions; Yunjian’s fatal encounter with a zombie horde occurred while Luoshui was away on one such assignment 15 25 100.

She was reborn as a baby in the Li Kingdom, becoming the daughter of Wenren Qiao and Tie Lihua. Although Qiao calls the emperor his brother, the Wenren princely house is outside the imperial clan. Luoshui grows up visiting the palace with her father and brother, sometimes helping Qiao plead poverty before the emperor 1 15.

After falling into water and suffering a three-day fever, she regains her memories. Knowing that her parents are destined to die through the machinations of her second uncle’s family, she resolves to change their fate 1.

Previous-life accounts

The story presents separate tragic histories associated with the original Commandery Princess Luoshui. Jiang Ning married her for her family’s wealth and influence, while his mother secretly gave her a sterilizing concoction. Jiang later aided a rebellion and intended to replace her with Shan Wanwan; after her family’s deaths and his betrayal, Luoshui killed herself 121.

Another account concerns Wen Nianzhi, whom she married through an imperial decree and helped secure recognition as the Wen family’s heir. He later blamed her for Fang Ruxue’s death, forced medicine on her, and confined her in abusive conditions. When servants threatened Yin Xing, the two women jumped into a well together. The present Luoshui explicitly distinguishes herself from that earlier commandery princess and refuses to give Wen Nianzhi another opportunity to exploit her 132 136.

Appearance

  • Attractive features: Wen Nianzhi is captivated by her beauty when they first meet in a previous-life account 132.
  • Fair skin: A gold bracelet set with jade and gemstones makes her skin appear even fairer in sunlight 121.
  • Clothing: Wears official robes for court and changes into ordinary dresses for shopping; she wears crimson during the confrontation at the potato trial plot 23 46.
  • Public impression: Noblewomen praise her as dashing and reassuring after she carries the unconscious Tu Hua to a changing room 103.

Personality

Luoshui wants comfort rather than a career. Her declared ambition is to live as a “giant rice weevil,” supported by others, and she treats her appointment to morning court as a calamity. She loves food, sleeping late, shopping, and gossip, and readily leaves minor decisions—such as choosing banquet clothes—to Yin Xing 1 5 19 67.

Her private commentary is irreverent even toward the emperor. She enjoys exposing absurd behavior and teasing people she knows well, including her parents and Junior Martial Uncle. Her enthusiasm for gossip repeatedly distracts the system from its explanations 6 34 72.

Despite her reluctance to work, she is protective and decisive when others face exploitation. She defends her household against manipulative relatives, supports victims seeking escape from abusive marriages, protects people at her academy, and finances agricultural and military development. Her retaliation can be deliberately grotesque, particularly when she uses plot editing against Mao Shaoqin, Tie Jiuni, or Saga Xiu 62 67 86 91 130 147.

Abilities & Skills

System-Assisted Intelligence and Foreknowledge

Salty Fish supplies private histories, concealed motives, original-story outcomes, and information about other systems. Luoshui combines these revelations with knowledge from her former world 1 17 64.

  • Identifies household spies, impostors, poisoning schemes, and fraudulent claims 1 10 16 72.
  • Exposes Wakoku espionage and identifies Saga Xiu’s supposed medicinal tribute as opium 17 90.
  • Reveals previous-life histories that help others recognize exploitation or avoid dangerous marriages 121 130 148.
  • Access is not unlimited: the system introduces a gossip paywall and can encrypt sensitive exchanges so listeners hear birdlike chirps instead 31 60.
  • By late in the story, nobles deliberately pass information to her as gossip, knowing her interest may uncover a person’s past and present lives 204.

Mental Communication

Luoshui and Yunjian can speak mind-to-mind. Selected relatives, officials, and nobles also hear Luoshui’s internal conversations with the system, while concealing that fact from her 1 6 18 19.

  • Allows private exchanges with Yunjian during court and social encounters 18 46.
  • Unintentionally gives the emperor intelligence without requiring Luoshui to report it aloud 5 17.
  • Does not reach everyone: Prince Qi, Prince Chen, and Xia Shuang are specifically unable to hear her thoughts 17 46.
  • Uses single-use items to extend access deliberately, including to Wenren Shuang and selected bystanders 10 98.
  • Later hears Wenren Ruoshui’s hostile thoughts herself 199.

Plot Editing

Through Salty Fish, Luoshui can rewrite character behavior and events, with changes taking effect in the world 60 67 91.

  • Makes Mao Shaoqin enjoy applying feces as a face mask to disrupt Wenren Shuang’s relationship with him 67.
  • Rewrites Tie Jiuni’s behavior into a humiliating spectacle after she approaches Wenren Qiao suggestively 86.
  • Scripts Saga Xiu’s public offense, capture, severe injuries, lifelong imprisonment, and recurring visions of Wakoku’s defeat 91.
  • Cannot bypass every restriction: the system refuses to supply her purchased firearms because that spacetime does not permit them 91 93.

Mysticism, Talismans, and Spiritual Healing

Luoshui possesses practical mystical training from her former life, including talisman drawing and the use of spiritual energy 12 25 73.

  • Removes the silver needles used in the Empress Dowager’s Child-Aversion Art and leaves spiritual energy to support gradual recovery 11 12.
  • Draws a Peace Amulet for Wang Jiuzhao after learning of the danger within Minister Wang’s household 72 73.
  • Supplies Wang Ermazi with Disguise Talismans, Peace Amulets, and Might Talismans. His appearance and voice change, while pursuers repeatedly lose his trail 168.
  • Attempts divination on Wenren Ruoshui but cannot determine her origins 199.

Combat and Physical Intervention

  • Immobilizes bandits by throwing a handful of leaves while rescuing Yunjian 14.
  • Kicks the matrons who block her and Qingluo at the residence entrance 4.
  • Stops Zhou Dabao from attacking Granny Cui 147.
  • Knocks Wenren Ruoshui unconscious with a palm strike to the back of the neck 202.

Public Performance and Reputation Management

Luoshui uses staged distress, witnesses, and her rank to prevent opponents from controlling the public account of a dispute 4 25 202.

  • Turns a summons from the old princess consort into a public accusation of abuse; covert guards catch her staged rush toward a stone lion 4.
  • Uses an amplification talisman and theatrical grief to rally neighbors against alleged potato-seed theft 24 25.
  • Selectively broadcasts her thoughts to dismantle An Sijia’s appeal without alerting An Sijia or Su He 98.
  • Publicly supports Liu Xiyun and brings her case to the Eldest Princess, helping reverse the damage caused by Ruoshui’s accusations 202.
