Background / History

Execution Assignment and Encounter with Lu Yun

Okkotsu had promised Satoru Gojo that he would protect Yuji Itadori and the younger students if anything happened to their teacher. After Gojo’s sealing, he accepts an execution assignment under a Binding Vow with the Higher-Ups, while secretly intending to preserve Yuji’s life 30 38 42.

He first confronts Yuji, Choso, and Lu Yun after overhearing Lu Yun reveal confidential information about Kenjaku. The appearance of an unknown sorcerer with cursed-energy reserves comparable to his own makes him suspicious. When Lu Yun abruptly knocks Yuji and Choso unconscious, Okkotsu attacks, interpreting the act as a betrayal of their trust 29 30.

Battle with Lu Yun

Ordinary sword attacks and Rika’s physical interference fail against Lu Yun’s lightning body. Okkotsu changes tactics, interrupting a charged attack with Cursed Speech and then coating his sword in Domain Amplification to inflict genuine injuries. When Lu Yun escapes into the sky, Okkotsu pursues aboard Rika and uses a beam clash to conceal an overhead strike that severs Lu Yun’s right arm 31 32 33.

Rika’s consumption of the arm lets Okkotsu copy a technique, but he mistakenly expects to obtain Lu Yun’s Elementalization. Instead, he activates Kashimo’s Mythical Beast Amber and must continuously heal himself to slow its destructive effects. He ultimately concedes after Lu Yun fires a Thunder Beast Bomb away from him, recognizing both the attack’s overwhelming power and Lu Yun’s deliberate restraint 34 35.

Okkotsu welcomes Lu Yun to Jujutsu High, believing the group has gained someone who could rival Gojo. He mistakes Lu Yun’s newly rewarded surge of cursed energy for evidence that his opponent had held back throughout their fight 35 37.

Protecting the Students and Rescuing Yaga

Okkotsu stabs the unconscious Yuji through the heart and states that his Binding Vow has been fulfilled. Yuji survives, and Okkotsu later explains the situation to him. At their temporary base, Okkotsu also helps restrain Megumi when he attempts to summon Mahoraga against Lu Yun 38 39 40.

Learning that Principal Masamichi Yaga has been sentenced to death initially leaves Okkotsu guilt-stricken: he fears his execution assignment helped remove him from the scene while the elders targeted Yaga. Once Lu Yun clarifies that Yaga may still be alive, Okkotsu prioritizes the rescue over their planned visit to Tengen 41.

He reaches Yaga in time, rejects the envoy’s order to apprehend him, and threatens the envoy with a devastating sword strike that deliberately misses. Okkotsu openly repudiates the elders’ authority and declares his intention to unseal Gojo before confronting them. Yaga survives, and the group returns to Jujutsu High 42 45 46.

Return to Jujutsu High

Okkotsu checks on Maki’s recovery from her burns and introduces Lu Yun to the others as an ally whose combat power could rival Gojo’s. During Lu Yun’s spar with Yuki Tsukumo, he serves as an informed observer, explaining that Elementalization has counters and recognizing the possible use of Domain Amplification 46 47 48.

Personality

Okkotsu is protective and strongly loyal to the people who supported him. His promise to Gojo shapes his handling of Yuji’s execution, while his gratitude toward Yaga drives him to intervene against the Higher-Ups. Even while fighting Lu Yun, he checks Yuji and Choso’s breathing and intends to heal his opponent if his suspicions prove mistaken 30 41 42.

He is pragmatic in combat, willing to abandon ineffective attacks and exploit openings rather than rely solely on raw power. He also accepts defeat sincerely once Lu Yun demonstrates superior strength without hostility 32 33 35.

His modesty sometimes becomes excessive. Maki remarks that he rates other people too highly and himself too lowly, citing his claim that Hakari is stronger than him. After losing to Lu Yun, his disappointment quickly gives way to enthusiasm about gaining a powerful ally 35 47.

His opposition to the elders becomes explicit during Yaga’s rescue. Their attempt to obtain Yaga’s cursed-corpse secrets through an execution order convinces him that they no longer deserve to dictate Jujutsu Society’s future 42.
