Background / History

Mei studies at St. Freya Academy, where she is known as an exceptionally capable cook and a gentle, composed classmate. Before seeing footage of her future, she fears that becoming a Herrscher could mean losing herself to Honkai and endangering Kiana and her friends. Himeko and Kiana reassure her that she is the one controlling the Herrscher’s power, not the reverse. 3

When Kiana’s condition becomes life-threatening, Kevin offers Mei a way to save her: reawaken as the Herrscher of Thunder, separate the excess core affecting Kiana, and join World Serpent’s fight against Honkai. Mei accepts without hesitation, declaring that Kiana is worth returning to the darkness for. 8

After entering the Previous Era Elysian Realm, Mei first encounters Elysia’s Memory Body, who guides her through the realm. She seeks Raven after becoming separated from her and later pursues access to The Deep, despite warnings about its dangers. 3 5

Mei survives several major threats within the realm. Mobius attempts to use the Infinity imprint to adapt Mei’s body for consciousness transfer, intending to escape the Elysian Realm through her. Later, Mei challenges Chakravartin in an attempt to break Apponia’s ten-day death prophecy; Apponia ultimately intervenes when Chakravartin is about to kill her. 11 35 37

Personality

Mei is ordinarily gentle, elegant, and considerate. Her friends regard her as unlikely to hurt someone without a serious reason, and she worries deeply when her actions might harm Kiana. 9 10

Her devotion to Kiana drives her to accept danger, separation, and the burden of becoming a Herrscher again. During their rooftop battle, Mei rejects Kiana’s habit of carrying every burden alone and chooses to leave her side in order to protect her future. 8 10

In the Elysian Realm, Mei becomes markedly bolder and more willing to confront danger. She later recognizes that this confidence can become recklessness, particularly after seeking out Chakravartin to test Apponia’s prophecy. 12 35
