Personality

Gojo is boastful, mischievous, and deliberately theatrical. He teases Xu about romance, pretends to cry when his friends reject his antics, and stages exaggerated introductions for his students. His humor can disappear immediately when a genuine threat emerges, particularly when Geto targets Yuta 6 20 21.

He values strength, but also the companionship it can make possible. After their childhood draw, he welcomes Xu as someone who might eventually stand beside him rather than leave him isolated at the top. He dismisses spectators who mock weaker competitors despite having already lost themselves 3 4.

As a teacher, Gojo becomes more willing to listen to other people’s suffering. He encourages Yuta to learn control rather than withdraw from the world, confronts the higher-ups over his student’s treatment, and refuses to let Xu threaten him unchecked. History

Childhood Rivalry with Kamo Xu

The Gojo Clan enters the Three-Clan Goodwill Event expecting its Six Eyes prodigy to guarantee victory. Gojo effortlessly defeats the Zenin children, but takes Xu seriously after examining his unusual blood and cursed energy. Xu neutralizes Blue and withstands Gojo’s close-range attack with Modified Flowing Red Scale and spiked blood armor. Recognizing their stalemate, Gojo proposes a draw 3.

The boys become friends upon discovering that both will attend Jujutsu High. Gojo later reflects that Xu could grow alongside him and relieve the loneliness of being unmatched. They eventually join a school team with Suguru Geto and Shoko Ieiri 3 4 6.

Riko Amanai’s Escort and Rescue

Gojo, Geto, and Xu receive orders to protect Riko Amanai and deliver her to Tengen. Gojo maintains his perception and defense throughout the mission, but relaxes after entering Jujutsu High’s barrier. Toji exploits that exhausted moment to stab him from behind 7 9.

Gojo sends Geto away with Riko and Kuroi, then fights Toji alone. After recognizing evidence of Toji’s earlier battle with Xu, he angrily demands Xu’s whereabouts. Toji evades his attacks, obscures his perception with fly heads, and uses the Inverted Spear of Heaven to breach Limitless. The fight ends with Gojo gravely wounded and motionless 9.

Gojo survives and later tears open the Time Vessel Association headquarters to rescue the still-living Riko from sacrifice. He identifies Xu’s soul within her blood and helps arrange Xu’s bodily restoration with Geto and Shoko. His own mastery of Reverse Cursed Technique subsequently allows him to automate Limitless 12 13.

Geto’s Defection and the Night Parade

Gojo’s increased strength leads to assignments against the most numerous and powerful cursed spirits, separating him from the original team. When Geto defects and massacres a village, Gojo confronts him in Shinjuku but cannot bring himself to attack. He later admits that being strong alone is insufficient 14 18.

As a teacher, he takes Yuta Okkotsu under Jujutsu High’s supervision. When Geto declares the Night Parade of a Hundred Demons, Gojo stands between him and Yuta, but must remain behind to protect the students from the curses Geto releases 20 24.

During the Night Parade, Gojo uses Hollow Purple to force Toji and Miguel to retreat. After Yuta defeats Geto, Gojo personally executes his former best friend 28 37.

Rupture with Kamo Xu

Following Geto’s death, Gojo notices that Xu’s cursed energy has become unusually dark and malicious. Xu reveals that enemies murdered his mother to divert him while they sought Geto’s corpse. Gojo recognizes the abandoned Prison Realm and realizes that the attackers escaped with the body 29 33.

Xu’s demand for greater strength escalates into an argument over exterminating curses and gaining power through other people’s hatred. Determined not to allow another friend to follow Geto’s path, Gojo confronts him. Both activate their domains 34.

Xu turns Gojo’s Red against him, freezing half his body and destroying Unlimited Void. Gojo believes Xu remains incapacitated and prepares to kill him once he thaws, but Xu recovers enough to aim Piercing Blood at his head. Xu ultimately leaves without firing. Their dispute ends with Xu declared a defector, while Gojo remains unable to reconcile their opposing views of strength 35 36.

Megumi and Yuji

At Xu’s request, Toji arranges for Gojo to take responsibility for Megumi. Gojo removes him from the Zenin Clan, restores his Fushiguro surname, and brings him to Jujutsu High. He later leaves Megumi alone on the mission to retrieve Sukuna’s finger while he goes shopping 37.

After Yuji swallows the finger, Gojo tests his control by requesting ten seconds against Sukuna. He avoids every attack, counters with close combat and Red, and blocks Sukuna’s final punch with Limitless. Yuji’s return confirms that he can suppress the curse 45 46.

Gojo again attempts to recruit Xu, this time suggesting that their combined pressure could save Yuji from execution. Xu refuses, and Gojo watches him depart while supporting the unconscious boy 47.
