Expanded cursed-spirit arsenal 26 Jujutsu High estimates that he possesses over 2,000 spirits. Geto himself reports a little over 6,500, despite Kamo Xu having destroyed most newly appearing curses over the preceding three years.

Background / History

Jujutsu High and the Star Plasma Vessel Mission

Geto belongs to a Jujutsu High team with Satoru Gojo, Kamo Xu, and Shoko Ieiri. He, Gojo, and Xu are known throughout Jujutsu Society as the strongest of their generation 6 8.

Masamichi Yaga assigns the three boys to protect Riko Amanai and deliver her to Tengen for assimilation. Geto rescues her from an exploding building using a flying cursed spirit and subdues an attacker from Q 7. When Toji Fushiguro ambushes Gojo inside Jujutsu High’s barrier, Geto helps repel him before escorting Riko and Misato Kuroi onward 9.

At Tengen’s residence, Geto offers Riko the choice to refuse assimilation. He explains that he, Gojo, and Xu have already agreed to protect her if she chooses to leave. She accepts, but Toji shoots her as she reaches for Geto’s hand 10.

Believing Riko dead and hearing Toji claim that he has killed both Gojo and Xu, Geto attacks with his strongest spirits. Toji destroys Rainbow Dragon, counters the Slit-Mouthed Woman, and defeats Geto after his attempt to absorb the Inventory Curse Worm fails. Toji deliberately leaves him alive because he does not know what killing a Cursed Spirit Manipulation user might unleash 10 11.

Shoko heals Geto, who then reaches the Time Vessel Association headquarters as Gojo rescues the still-living Riko. After learning that Xu’s soul remains in her blood, Geto helps Gojo devise a plan to restore Xu’s body through a transfusion and Shoko’s Reverse Cursed Technique 12 13.

Exhaustion and Defection

As Gojo becomes strong enough to undertake major missions alone, Geto’s original team separates. Yaga assigns Riko to accompany him as a trainee. Although her constant excitement exhausts him, her survival and cheerful company also help him continue working 13 14.

Repeated missions expose Geto to human cruelty and leave him questioning why sorcerers must endlessly exorcise and absorb curses. Yuki Tsukumo’s proposal to prevent cursed spirits from being born leads him to consider killing all non-sorcerers. Yuki rejects that extreme solution, while the newly awakened Xu challenges the premise that the cycle can simply be broken 14 15.

Geto dismisses Xu’s warning about Yu Haibara’s mission. After Haibara dies, Geto blames himself and begins meticulously verifying every assignment before acting 16.

During a village investigation, Geto discovers two injured girls being abused because they can see curses. The encounter breaks his commitment to protecting ordinary people. He orders a cursed spirit to slaughter the villagers, absorbs newly formed curses, and knocks Riko unconscious when she tries to intervene 17.

After defecting, Geto announces his intention to create a world inhabited only by sorcerers. He also acknowledges that he has not spared his own parents. Gojo confronts him but cannot bring himself to attack; Xu later approaches him privately, refuses to interfere with his beliefs, and curses him to live to a hundred 18.

Night Parade of a Hundred Demons

Geto gathers former Time Vessel Association members under his command, accumulates money, and uses ordinary people to generate curses. Xu’s extensive exorcisms restrict his access to additional spirits, creating friction between the two despite their continuing friendship 22 26.

Geto targets Yuta Okkotsu and Rika Orimoto. At Jujutsu High, he attempts to recruit Yuta into his plan to kill every non-sorcerer. Yuta refuses after Geto insults Maki Zenin and his other friends. Geto then declares the Night Parade of a Hundred Demons for sunset on December 24 in Shinjuku and Kyoto 21 24.

The public attacks conceal his objective: kill Yuta and seize Rika. He assigns Miguel and Toji to delay Gojo and tells his followers to flee immediately if they encounter Xu. When Xu leaves Jujutsu High following news of his mother’s disappearance, Geto moves against Yuta without that obstacle 26.

Yuta defeats Geto, and Gojo personally executes him afterward. Xu finds his corpse with its neck pierced, hair loose, and a lingering smile 28 29.

Theft of His Corpse

Xu attempts to destroy Geto’s remains to prevent Kenjaku from acquiring Cursed Spirit Manipulation. Kenjaku interrupts him, and the ensuing battle draws in Mahito, Hanami, and Jogo 29 30 31.

Hanami carries the corpse during the fighting. After Xu’s maximum-power attack, an octopus-shaped cursed spirit retrieves the mangled body and escapes underground; the following chapter identifies the thief as Dagon. Geto’s body is taken, but the supplied chapters do not show Kenjaku possessing it 31 32 33.

Appearance

  • Hair and eyes: Black hair with distinctive side-swept bangs and narrow eyes 6 11.
  • Student clothing: Baggy trousers during his Jujutsu High years 6.
  • Signs of exhaustion: Dark circles and a visibly worn appearance during his heavy mission workload 14.
  • After defection: Longer hair, a healthier-looking build, and the disappearance of his dark circles 18.
  • Later clothing: A loose monk’s robe with wide sleeves 22 24.

Personality

Geto initially combines a reassuring manner with dry humor and pointed teasing. He jokes with Xu, recognizes Gojo’s theatrics, and tries to calm Riko when she mistakes her rescuers for enemies. Beneath that sociability, he takes his duty to save people seriously 6 7 14.

His decline is driven by exhaustion, disgust at human malice, and guilt over Haibara’s death. He overthinks his responsibilities and initially responds to failure by becoming more cautious, not by abandoning his work 14 16.

After the village massacre, Geto describes non-sorcerers as “monkeys” and justifies killing them as service to a greater cause. His affection for sorcerers and his chosen family remains: he can move directly from threatening mass murder to worrying about taking his companions out for crepes 17 18 24.

His commitment is not portrayed as free of doubt. Xu observes that Geto increasingly recognizes goodness in the world, but his new family and earlier choices keep pushing him onward. Gojo likewise distinguishes Geto’s habit of weighing morality against ideals from Xu’s more inflexible convictions 23 36.

Abilities & Skills

Cursed Spirit Manipulation

Geto absorbs subdued cursed spirits and freely controls them afterward 11.

  • Acquisition: Absorbed spirits become orbs that he swallows. Their taste is intensely revolting, adding a physical burden to his work 17.
  • Grade advantage: A difference of two grades or more allows him to skip subjugation 11.
  • Ownership restriction: He cannot absorb a spirit that already has a master. His ignorance of this limitation causes his failed attempt to take Toji’s Inventory Curse Worm 11.
  • Applications: Uses spirits for aerial transport, defense, direct attacks, ambushes, and overwhelming groups of enemies 7 11 24.
  • Unknown consequence of death: Toji avoids killing him because he is uncertain what would happen to his controlled spirits 11.

Notable Controlled Spirits

Spirit Applications Limits / Fate
Rainbow Dragon His most durable spirit; rams Toji through walls and buildings 11. Toji bisects it with the Soul-Eating Blade 11.
Slit-Mouthed Woman An Imaginary Vengeful Spirit whose domain prevents attacks until its question is answered, then produces guaranteed-hit scissors attacks 11. Toji destroys the scissors with the Inverted Spear of Heaven, forcing it to retreat 11.
Elastic-skinned spirit Blocks handgun bullets by stretching around their impacts 11. Used defensively during the Toji fight 11.
Squid-like spirits Fast, nearly silent projectiles with sharp heads capable of piercing wooden walls 11. Their ambush fails against Toji’s enhanced senses 11.
Large one-eyed spirit Punches Toji and the ground beneath him into the air; later erupts beneath Gojo during Geto’s escape 11 24. Toji escapes the follow-up attacks by using rubble and a tree as footholds 11.
Village curse A Grade 2 spirit developing an ability to burn away kindness and amplify human ugliness; used in the village massacre 17. Easily subdued by Geto despite nearing Semi-Grade 1 17.
Flying spirits Carry Geto and others through the air, including during Riko’s rescue and his later arrival at Jujutsu High 7 24. Individual names are not given.

Tactical Judgment

  • Coordinates successive spirit attacks to keep Toji airborne and deny him stable footing 11.
  • Uses the Slit-Mouthed Woman’s domain to create an opening for an attempted theft of Toji’s cursed-tool inventory 11.
  • Recognizes the automatic target selection in Gojo’s improved Limitless 13.
  • Designs the Night Parade around delaying Gojo rather than defeating him directly, while seeking Rika as the decisive prize 26.

Relationships

  • Satoru Gojo — His closest friend and former teammate. Their opposing convictions separate them after Geto’s defection; Gojo ultimately executes him after his defeat by Yuta 6 18 28.
  • Kamo Xu — Friend who challenges his developing ideology but maintains contact after his defection. Xu finances Toji’s protection of Geto, restricts his curse collection, and repeatedly tries to prevent his death 15 18 22 23 25.
  • Shoko Ieiri — Former teammate who heals his injuries. She questions his motives after his defection and summons Gojo when she encounters him in Shinjuku 12 14 18.
  • Riko Amanai — Former protection target and later trainee. Her survival helps sustain him, but he defeats her when she tries to stop the village massacre; she continues to blame herself for failing to prevent his defection 10 14 17 26.
  • Yu Haibara — Cheerful junior whose outlook briefly eases Geto’s worries. His death becomes a persistent source of guilt 14 16.
  • Yuki Tsukumo — Her ideas about preventing curses prompt Geto to consider eliminating non-sorcerers, though she rejects that extreme proposal 15.
  • Toji Fushiguro — The opponent who defeats him during Riko’s escort mission. Later becomes his paid protector through Xu’s arrangement; Geto remains resentful but recruits him to delay Gojo during the Night Parade 11 22 26.
  • Yuta Okkotsu and Rika Orimoto — Targets of his plan to acquire Rika. Yuta rejects his recruitment attempt and later defeats him 21 24 26 28.
  • Chosen family — Followers whose welfare he prioritizes alongside his cause. Xu arranges for Toji to continue protecting the surviving members after Geto’s death 18 24 37.

Trivia

  • Riko’s survival does not prevent his defection: the later village massacre remains the immediate breaking point 14 17.
  • Geto appears alive beside Gojo in Xu’s fabricated dream of a happy future. This is a dream appearance, not a resurrection 49.
