Background / History

Ancient Origin

Kenjaku has lived for more than a thousand years. He transformed his own brain into a curse to pursue his unusual ambitions, allowing him to take complete possession of other bodies. The account does not establish whether this ability is an innate cursed technique or the result of becoming a cursed spirit 30 106.

Obtaining Suguru Geto’s Body

Kamo Xu identifies Kenjaku’s objective as obtaining Suguru Geto’s body and Cursed Spirit Manipulation. Before the Night Parade of a Hundred Demons, Xu tries to disrupt that outcome by changing Yuta Okkotsu’s fate or persuading Geto to abandon his massacre 23.

On December 24, Kenjaku and Mahito use Kamo Kimie’s murder and transfiguration to lure Xu away from Jujutsu High. Kenjaku praises Mahito’s work, anticipating that seeing his mother will break Xu and remove him from Geto’s path 26.

After Geto dies, Kenjaku approaches Xu beside the corpse and offers to pay any price for it. Xu answers with Piercing Blood. Mahito’s flesh wall diverts the shot away from Kenjaku’s brain, but it still destroys his lower jaw and forces him to retreat 29 30.

The ensuing battle badly injures Kenjaku’s cursed-spirit allies. Dagon retrieves Geto’s mangled body, while Kenjaku throws the Prison Realm into Xu’s path to prevent pursuit. By their next restaurant meeting, Kenjaku has successfully possessed Geto 32 33 68.

The Shibuya Binding Vow

Kenjaku initially faces a strategic dilemma: sealing Gojo would leave Xu free, while sealing Xu would leave Gojo free. He also lacks access to the Prison Realm, which remains beneath the blood left at Jujutsu High 68.

Xu finds the group through a soul-and-blood mark planted in Geto’s corpse. He demonstrates his control by making the host’s blood pierce Kenjaku’s stomach, then offers to retrieve the Prison Realm and permit Gojo’s sealing in exchange for Geto’s right arm 69.

Kenjaku negotiates a binding vow under threat of being removed from his host and preserved in formalin 70.

Party Agreed Terms
Kamo Xu Retrieve the Prison Realm and refrain from interfering with Gojo’s sealing 70.
Kamo Xu Refrain from attacking Kenjaku’s group until its withdrawal from Shibuya; Mahito remains an explicit exception 70.
Kenjaku Surrender Geto’s right arm after Gojo is sealed 70.
Kenjaku Never replace the removed arm through healing, soul alteration, cloning, cursed tools, machinery, or another method 70.
Mahito After the arm is removed, grant Xu one unconditional request that does not put anyone in a difficult position 70.

Xu additionally warns that harm to the restaurant will void the agreement. After he leaves, Kenjaku uses that threat to stop Jogo’s outburst and is left paying the bill 70.

Prison Realm Exchange and Hidden Counterplot

Xu retrieves the Prison Realm by allowing it to seal him, then breaking out with the Inverted Spear of Heaven. He later returns its fragments to Kenjaku in the sewers, where Kenjaku’s summoned curses collect them 75 76 101.

Kenjaku relies on the vow to protect himself while Xu repeatedly dismembers Mahito. He assumes the requested arm is an attempt to weaken his combat ability, reasoning that Cursed Spirit Manipulation and Anti-Gravity System will compensate for its loss 101 102.

Xu’s actual objective is Geto’s surviving soul fragment, which has retreated into the right arm. He intends to combine it with his long-life curse and Mahito’s Idle Transfiguration to resurrect Geto. Kenjaku’s possession is therefore unknowingly keeping the desired body alive while Xu prepares his counterattack 102.

When Xu demands a hidden Sukuna’s Finger, Kenjaku reveals that one of his cursed spirits has already taken it elsewhere. Xu attempts to kill him, but the binding vow stops the punch just short of Kenjaku’s face and inflicts backlash on Xu. Kenjaku survives, shaken by how close he came to death 103.

Recruiting Junpei and Escalating the Conflict

Kenjaku considers absorbing the severely damaged Mahito, but postpones doing so because Gojo has not yet been sealed and Mahito remains a useful fighter 106.

Junpei Yoshino then arrives carrying his dying mother, Nagi, and claims to have killed the red-eyed attacker he believes harmed her. Mahito confirms that Xu’s soul marks have become almost dormant. Kenjaku chooses to exploit Junpei’s misunderstanding rather than correct it 106.

Unable to heal Nagi himself, Kenjaku offers to take her to an arriving blood expert. Junpei agrees to accompany him in exchange for the possibility of saving his mother. Kenjaku subsequently helps develop Junpei’s abilities and sends him with Choso to reinforce Eso and Kechizu during the Yasohachi Bridge operation 107 115 118.

Kenjaku treats that operation as a critical opportunity to secure Sukuna’s strength while Xu is absent. With Mahito, Jogo, and Hanami still badly injured, another failure could derail his Shibuya preparations 115.

Bargaining Chip for Sukuna

Kenjaku later identifies Xu as the suspected [Landmine], whose significance to Sukuna may be exploitable. To address doubts that Sukuna will cooperate, he produces Wasuke Itadori’s preserved corpse 129.

Wasuke is revealed to be the reincarnation of Sukuna’s brother and is described as Kenjaku’s father-in-law. Kenjaku preserved the body early because Xu’s interference made it necessary to secure additional bargaining leverage 129.

Appearance

Kenjaku’s distinguishing feature is the stitched scar across his forehead, visible in both his earlier host and Suguru Geto’s body 26 30 100.

  • Forehead stitches — allow Xu to recognize him immediately at their first direct meeting 30.
  • Narrow eyes — noted when he appears in Geto’s body at the restaurant 68.
  • Hooded clothing — during the sewer encounter, he lowers his hood to conceal Geto’s face and avoid further provoking Xu 101 102.

Personality

Kenjaku is calculating and willing to weaponize family bonds. Kimie’s death removes Xu from Geto’s side; Junpei’s desperation gives him another recruit; Wasuke’s remains become leverage for negotiations involving Sukuna 26 106 107 129.

His genial manner often conceals exploitation. He smiles benevolently while offering Junpei a possible route to save Nagi, and asks whether Hanami frightened a captive woman despite his group’s role in her predicament 107 129.

Despite his age and experience, Kenjaku is not fearless. Xu repeatedly reduces him to sweating, trembling, and guarded compliance. When the binding vow saves him from a lethal punch, his first response is relief that his brain and life remain intact 69 70 101 103.

He also overestimates his understanding of Xu’s plans. He correctly recognizes Xu’s strength and unusual knowledge, but mistakes the demand for Geto’s arm as a crude attempt to weaken him rather than a resurrection scheme 102 106.

Abilities & Skills

Brain-Based Possession

Kenjaku’s cursed brain can completely possess another person when inserted into their skull 30.

  • Uses Suguru Geto’s corpse as his current host 68.
  • Intends to engrave Geto’s technique into his brain so he can retain it after switching bodies 102.
  • Possession does not eliminate Xu’s implanted soul mark or Geto’s surviving soul fragment 69 102.

Cursed Spirit Manipulation

Acquired through Geto’s body, this technique allows Kenjaku to control cursed spirits and consider absorbing subdued curses 101 102 106.

  • Summons maggot-like curses to collect the Prison Realm fragments 101.
  • Uses a cursed spirit to carry a Sukuna’s Finger elsewhere 103.
  • Stores Wasuke’s preserved corpse inside a cursed spirit that releases freezing air 129.
  • Requires only one arm, making the promised loss of Geto’s right arm acceptable to him 102.
  • Considers absorbing Mahito, but delays to retain him as a fighter before Gojo’s sealing 106.

Anti-Gravity System

Anti-Gravity System is one of Kenjaku’s possessed techniques. He considers it, alongside Cursed Spirit Manipulation, sufficient to offset the disadvantages of losing an arm 102.

Reverse Cursed Technique

Kenjaku can use Reverse Cursed Technique, but cannot readily output it to heal another person 107.

  • This limitation prevents him from directly treating Nagi Yoshino’s severe blood loss 107.

Strategic Analysis and Binding Vows

Kenjaku combines accumulated experience with negotiated restrictions to survive opponents he cannot defeat directly 30 70.

  • Recognizes that Xu’s enormous cursed energy resulted from cursing himself 30.
  • Infers that Xu’s commitment to protecting innocent humans can constrain his strongest attacks 68.
  • Suspects Xu knows the broad course of events rather than every detail, based on his failure to anticipate Kimie’s murder 106.
  • Secures protection through the Shibuya vow; its enforcement stops Xu’s attempted killing blow 70 103.
  • Helps develop Junpei’s shikigami abilities for deployment against Jujutsu High 118.

Equipment / Weapons / Items

  • Prison Realm — sealing tool intended for Gojo. Kenjaku first uses it to block Xu’s pursuit, then receives it back in fragmented form after Xu retrieves it 32 70 75 101.
  • Sukuna’s Fingers — resources used to assess and support Sukuna’s revival. His group expends one to confirm Sukuna’s strength; another is moved by a controlled curse before Xu can seize it 68 103.
  • Wasuke Itadori’s corpse — preserved bargaining chip connected to Sukuna through Wasuke’s identity as his brother’s reincarnation 129.

Relationships

  • Kamo Xu — principal adversary and temporary binding-vow partner. Kenjaku regards his strength and knowledge as threats that can exceed Gojo’s in certain respects 70 106.
  • Suguru Geto — desired host and source of Cursed Spirit Manipulation. Kenjaku remains unaware that Geto’s surviving soul is central to Xu’s resurrection plan 68 102.
  • Mahito — useful ally whom Kenjaku restores from scattered flesh, while privately considering his eventual absorption 100 106.
  • Jogo — allied special grade curse. Kenjaku estimates his strength at eight or nine Sukuna fingers and tries to restrain his impulsive behavior 70.
  • Hanami — allied curse and messenger. Kenjaku leaves Hanami to decide whether to rescue Jogo from Gojo 79 129.
  • Dagon — ally who retrieves Geto’s corpse; the group also spends time in Dagon’s Innate Domain 33 129.
  • Satoru Gojo — primary sealing target and obstacle to Kenjaku’s plans 68 70.
  • Junpei Yoshino — manipulated recruit and trained combatant, drawn into the group through the promise of help for his mother 107 118.
  • Choso — deployed reinforcement at Yasohachi Bridge; later agrees to a deception intended to make Kenjaku believe he still seeks revenge for his brothers 115 144.
  • Ryomen Sukuna — powerful but unpredictable figure whose cooperation Kenjaku seeks to influence through Xu and Wasuke’s remains 129.
  • Wasuke Itadori — identified as Kenjaku’s father-in-law; his preserved body is retained as leverage involving Sukuna 129.
