Background / History

Yang Xu was a Chinese orphan who spent much of his previous life watching anime and collecting figurines. After cursing the Jujutsu Kaisen story while looking at his phone, he was struck by a truck and crushed beneath a road roller. He was reborn as Kamo Xu, the son of the Kamo Clan head and Kamo Kimie 1 2 48.

His extraordinary Heavenly Restriction made him valuable to the clan despite his habitual refusal to train. Xu considered conventional Blood Manipulation wasteful and dangerous because it consumed the user’s blood. He resented his father’s attempts to use him as a weapon, but obeyed and cared for his frail mother 1 2 5.

His father persuaded him to enter the Three-Clan Goodwill Event by offering one million US dollars. Xu fought Satoru Gojo to a draw, befriended him, and later enrolled at Jujutsu High alongside Gojo, Suguru Geto, and Shoko Ieiri 2 3 6.

Appearance

• Hair: Black, spiky, and persistently untidy; it later grows long enough for Kimie to tie into a low ponytail 6 25.
• Eyes: Originally black. After his mother’s death, his crushed eye regenerates as a dull blood-red eye, leaving him with mismatched eyes 28.

Personality

Xu initially presents himself as lazy, irreverent, and interested in enjoying his second childhood rather than meeting clan expectations. He mocks his father, ignores training orders, and eagerly accepts money as an incentive. The narration identifies his lost ambition as the price of his Heavenly Restriction 1 2.

His apparent indifference conceals a strong attachment to family and friendship. Unlike Gojo and Geto’s emphasis on strength and justice, Xu explicitly values bonds. His desire to keep the people he loves alive becomes the principal reason he pursues greater power 6.

He is especially tender toward Kimie, sheltering her from the cold, buying her nourishing food, and trying to prolong her life. Nevertheless, he repeatedly becomes embarrassed by her affection and slips out of her embraces. When she is transfigured, he finally embraces her willingly while allowing her to tear his body apart 2 5 25 27.

Repeated failures to change the story make him increasingly ruthless and driven. Gojo sees him as someone who eliminates threats preemptively and advances as though stopping would mean death. After Kimie’s murder, grief, self-directed curses, and brain damage intensify his hatred and volatility 21 23 28 38.

His mother’s final wish remains a restraint against killing innocents. He spares Gojo despite having an opportunity to execute him, and later deceives Dream Murmur with a threatened mass-casualty attack rather than actually killing its human captives 36 50.

Heavenly Restriction and Blood Affinity

Xu’s soul exists within his blood, making his flesh a vessel rather than the sole basis of his survival 1 3.

• Retains control over blood after releasing it, allowing redirection, reshaping, and reuse 1 3.

Story Role / Major Arcs

Hidden Inventory and Revival

Assigned to escort Riko to Tengen, Xu recognizes that events continue to resemble the original story despite his presence. He leaves the group to confront Toji alone, hoping to change the outcome. Toji defeats him, survives Red Emperor Blue Star, and destroys his heart with the Soul-Eating Blade 7 8.

Xu’s blood protection nevertheless saves Riko from a gunshot. Gojo, Geto, and Shoko use blood taken from her to restore his circulation and organs. His body revives before his brain recovers; he eventually awakens in a wheelchair, still unable to feel his lower body 11 13 15 16.

He tries to warn Geto that Yu Haibara’s assignment may involve a Grade 1 threat, but the warning is dismissed. Haibara dies, reinforcing Xu’s fear that important deaths remain resistant to change 16 23.

Nationwide Exorcisms and Geto’s Protection

After recovering his mobility, Xu takes over much of Jujutsu High’s exorcism workload. He spends three years traveling across Japan, kills three special grade cursed spirits, and returns to the school only twice during that period 20.

He also hires Toji to protect Geto. As Geto prepares to target Yuta and Rika, Xu considers changing Yuta’s fate or persuading Geto to abandon his massacre as ways to undermine Kenjaku’s scheme 21 22 23.

Night Parade, Kimie’s Death, and Defection

During the Night Parade of a Hundred Demons, news that Kimie has not returned home draws Xu away from Jujutsu High. Kenjaku and Mahito have arranged this diversion, leaving Geto free to attack Yuta 26.

Xu finds Kimie transformed into a monstrous human and embraces her while she mutilates him. After emerging alone, he unleashes his unfinished domain across Kyoto and destroys its cursed spirits 27.

His subsequent attack on Mahito becomes a prolonged revenge battle involving Kenjaku, Hanami, and Jogo. Despite his enhanced Maximum Technique, the curses escape with Geto’s corpse. Xu is too exhausted to pursue them without risking capture by the Prison Realm 30 31 32 33.

He then fights Gojo in a domain clash, survives Unlimited Void through brain destruction and regeneration, and declines to kill his vulnerable friend. His departure leads Jujutsu High and Jujutsu Society to declare him a defector 35 36.

Yuji Itadori and Sukuna

Xu encounters Megumi and Yuji while hunting cursed spirits at their school. Megumi recognizes him from Jujutsu High’s wanted list, but Xu agrees to surrender Sukuna’s finger and helps protect both boys from a Grade 2 cursed spirit 40 42.

After Sukuna takes control of Yuji, Xu overwhelms him in close combat. He later explains Yuji’s ability to suppress Sukuna to Gojo, but refuses Gojo’s invitation to return 44 46 47.

Sendai’s Nightmare Domain

In an abandoned Sendai building, Xu enters a pink-misted domain that interferes with his cursed-energy control. It offers him a fabricated life in which he becomes clan head, cures Kimie, and reunites with his friends 48 49.

Although he recognizes the dream as false, he stays until the recreated Kimie urges him to leave. Remembering that she left him happiness as well as a curse, he says goodbye and awakens with his soul and cursed energy restored 49.

The nightmare curse, Dream Murmur, responds by taking a child hostage and surrounding Xu with human captives. Xu feigns an indiscriminate Maximum Technique, kills the distracted curse with Piercing Blood, and catches the child before he strikes the ground 50.
