When elderly dancers disturb her sleep, she steps on their sound-system soul tool and insists they are at fault—until one reveals four soul rings 167 168.

Her attachment to rabbits is inseparable from her identity and grief. Discovering that Tang San has fed her rabbit meat makes her vomit and attack him. She later recognizes that her anger also reflects suppressed distress over witnessing her mother’s and Er Ming’s deaths, and she apologizes after Wang Sheng intervenes 150 151.

She is fiercely attached to Tang San and jealous of threats to their special relationship. Tang Xuanwei’s claim to be his younger sister immediately unsettles her. After growing to six in human form, she persuades the Bull-Headed Snake to let her leave the Star Dou Great Forest for human society 134 151 305.

Nuoding Academy

Xiao Wu enters Dorm Seven as a work-study student. Her first encounter with Tang San becomes a fight after she unknowingly eats his spicy rabbit meat. Wang Sheng mediates, explains the influence of Martial Souls on their owners, and persuades her to apologize 150 151 152.

After Nuo Ya badly injures her, Xiao Wu vows revenge once she obtains her first soul ring. In their rematch, she follows Tang San’s advice to exhaust Nuo Ya, then attacks after Nuo Ya suddenly falls. Xiao Wu suspects Tang San’s concealed interference and refuses to acknowledge it. Her subsequent challenge against Xiao Chenyu ends in defeat after an outside presence takes control of his body 173 176 177 178 179.

Her relationship with Tang San develops beyond their initial quarrel. In Holy Soul Village, she accepts him as her elder brother; they remain close throughout their years at Nuoding Academy 305 468.

Shrek Academy and the Tournament

Before the tournament’s aftermath, Xiao Wu and Tang San discuss returning to Holy Soul Village to marry. She proposes Tang Wulin for a son and Tang Wutong for a daughter 442.

Capture and Death

At the Papal Palace, Bibi Dong orders Xiao Wu captured. Tang San publicly identifies her as a soul beast but refuses to surrender her. After Tang Hao is defeated, Xiao Wu begins sacrificing herself to Tang San; Bibi Dong reverses the ritual and seizes them both 447 454.

Xiao Wu later faces a choice between sacrificing herself and allowing Tang San to consume the Blue Silver Emperor’s Seed of Life—the remnant of his mother. She restrains him and agrees to sacrifice herself to Tianyu instead. By fusing her soul into the ring, she guarantees its absorption but eliminates any possibility of her own rebirth 463.

Future and Alternate Counterparts

The novel separately introduces a Xiao Wu from ten thousand years in the future, identified with The Legend of the Dragon King. Lan Xuanyu, her opponent, comes from another world and is introduced as Tang Wulin and Gu Yuena’s son 628 630.

Qian Chongling publicly accuses this future Xiao Wu of changing accounts of her mother’s death, permitting her brothers to oppress Gu Yuena, and advocating violence against the Life God King’s family despite receiving the Goddess of Life’s blessing for her son.
