Background / History

Original World and First Arrival

Xianyu originally grew up in a loving, wealthy family in a higher-dimensional world. His parents respected his independence and provided a safety net for his choices, but his poor health led them to pray for his longevity. “Xianyu” was an intentionally unassuming childhood nickname; his formal name was selected according to his birth chart 357 358 438.

He crossed into the lower-dimensional world in his own body while still a fifteen- or sixteen-year-old high school student. Accounts of this first arrival describe his unfamiliarity with danger, including mistaking gunfire for firecrackers and being robbed three times in one month. Zandar became a scholar who taught him about the world 248 278 438.

Yaoqing General and Xianzhou Marshal

The system places Xianyu in command of the Yaoqing in Star Calendar Year 1400. Initially, he approaches government and warfare as a player, classifying subordinates by rarity and pursuing technological advantages such as the Colossus and its planet-killing armament 13 331.

He distributes portions of an Abundance Fruit to his subordinates to grant them immortality. Over the centuries, that longevity becomes a source of suffering as they develop mara-struck conditions, lose their desire to continue living, or die in conflicts. His attempts to revive them with Tenseiga fail 56 71.

Xianyu eventually serves as Marshal of the Xianzhou and, after the Starsea Council's founding, as Star-Sea Overseer. He acknowledges leading the Xianzhou's pursuit of the Plagues Author and unleashing war across the cosmos 317.

His attachment to his people changes his priorities. Concerned that the Alliance might collapse without his system, he studies and processes documents without rest until he can govern independently. He also relies on Marty to develop weapons that could defend the Xianzhou after his departure 188.

Repeated Cycles and Concealed Memories

The universe has undergone countless rewinds. Xianyu's first-loop self created the mara-struck debuff to obscure the truth and preserve a player's mindset; removing it exposes information that had previously escaped him 276 277.

His memories of earlier lives return gradually. These experiences explain his present exhaustion, isolation, indifference to injury, and reluctance to form relationships: he had spent thousands of years working without rest and avoiding situations in which assassins might harm others 167.

Life on the Luofu

In his current life, Xianyu deliberately avoids standing out. He enters the Divination Commission with a bottom-of-the-class assessment score and cultivates the reputation of an ordinary employee who coasts on a fixed salary 1 2 6.

His attempt at anonymity is undermined by Lan's appearance on the Luofu, the Hunt arrow in his home, and renewed contact with Aeons who know his past. Although he wants an uneventful life, his former responsibilities and unresolved history repeatedly draw him back into wider affairs 1 21.

Appearance

Xianyu has a gentle, harmless-looking face with little outward aggression. His appearance remains unchanged from before his crossing, and others regard him as notably attractive 138 140 370.

  • Black hair and amber eyes, selected by the author to reflect his real-world origins 438.
  • A tear mole, associated with financial loss in the face-reading reference used for his design 438.
  • A carefully maintained smile that often conceals distress, embarrassment, or emotional distance 179 212 357.
  • Gloves given by Jingliu, worn during sword practice and other outings 116 122.
  • Gold-rimmed glasses, worn during his meeting with Huaiyan 389.

Personality

Xianyu wants good pay, little work, and a short commute rather than power or prestige. His apparent laziness is rooted in profound exhaustion from earlier lives, not an inability to handle responsibility. Even his reduced workload as a ruler still amounts to twelve-hour days, six days a week 35 167 226.

He keeps others at a distance and expects little from them. Jing Yuan describes him as someone whose disguises must be peeled away before his extreme indifference becomes visible. He tolerates suspicion and criticism without obvious resentment, but provoking him can bring calculated retaliation 6 37 66.

As a ruler, he suppresses personal emotions to avoid making harmful decisions. This produces an outwardly impeccable superior and, later, an equally controlled romantic partner. Jingliu instead encourages him to show uncertainty, selfishness, and imperfection, treating these as human qualities rather than failures 188 357 382 424.

His care for the Xianzhou develops from possessive control into recognition of its people's independence. Guan Liang contrasts his early treatment of subordinates as useful tools with his later insistence on acknowledging their contributions. Xianyu ultimately hopes that neither his children nor the Xianzhou natives will repeat his life 360.

In romance, he is inexperienced, cautious, and prone to interpreting silence as rejection. He respects Jingliu's boundaries, sometimes to her frustration, while also enjoying teasing her. He values their relationship more than carrying on a family line 176 202 212.

Abilities & Skills

Higher-Dimensional Physiology

Xianyu's body does not interact with the world's powers in the same way as an ordinary inhabitant's 72 170.

  • Limited susceptibility to Aeon powers: divine effects can influence him, but their reach is restricted; initial contact can briefly affect system descriptions 135 170.
  • Breaking immortality: he can overcome the “immortality” debuff rather than being bound by it 72 160.
  • Suppressive flesh and blood: he discovers that his body can suppress lower-dimensional beings, with Shuhu providing a demonstrated example 276.
  • Possible correction of lower-dimensional deficiencies: Zandar suspects that Xianyu's blood can compensate for their shortcomings; Xianyu does not yet have a sufficiently advanced system to establish precise conclusions 389.
  • Unresolved effects: he questions the limits of his influence over fate and whether prolonged contact could negatively affect Jingliu 348.

Game System and Health Lock

The Game System provides an inventory, map, technology tree, quests, status panels, and ranked statistics 1 13 66 72.

  • Inventory concealment: stores the Hunt arrow without allowing its destructive power to be detected aboard the Xianzhou 1.
  • Status inspection: displays life countdowns, transformations, item properties, and physical conditions 56 72 394.
  • Health lock: prevents death while enabled, allowing Xianyu to endure dangerous encounters and prolonged work 147 188.
  • Debuff management: lets him remove and re-equip his mara-struck condition 72 159.
  • Important limits: the health lock does not prevent injury or pain. His healing is noticeably weaker than that of ordinary Xianzhou natives 72 170 176.
  • Concealed information: item descriptions and debuff effects can hide crucial details; the system is not an unquestionable source of complete knowledge 128 135 277.

Hunt Power and Anti-Aeon Capability

Lan's arrow contains enough divine power to detonate a celestial body, and its bestowal identifies Xianyu as the Hunt's first Emanator 1 72.

  • Receiving Lan's divine power initially threatens to destroy his body; Lan slows its delivery after Xianyu spits blood 72.
  • Xianyu states that his constitution allows him to kill Aeons, but doing so requires reaching their true bodies, not merely their avatars 160.
  • Despite receiving Hunt power, he maintains that he has never stepped onto a Path and remains a Higher-Dimensional Invader 76.
  • His ability to ascend to godhood remains unresolved; he privately attributes the difficulty to his incompatible power system 265.

Swordsmanship

Xianyu's swordsmanship develops through survival rather than formal instruction. His reflexes come from fighting enemies of the Xianzhou and assassins attempting to kill him 122.

  • Initially performs poorly against Jingliu while his memories remain incomplete, repeatedly losing his sword during a three-hour spar 12.
  • Later instinctively blocks her attack after recovering part of his past 122.
  • Every move is directed toward killing; he lacks experience in nonlethal sparring and worries about hurting Jingliu 122.
  • Jingliu judges his talent exceptional but concludes that his lethal style leaves her unable to teach him conventionally 119 122.

Government and Long-Term Strategy

Xianyu develops administrative expertise through thousands of years of study and practice, eventually reducing his dependence on the system 188 197.

  • Maintains a respectable satisfaction rating without system assistance 188.
  • Negotiates a Vidyadhara–Xianzhou alliance and binds the High Elders to a contract 138.
  • Plans succession around Hua's education, practical training, and guidance from the generals 236.
  • Prepares resources, shelter, and a reconstruction plan before the Nameless become fugitives on a troubled planet 265.
  • Lays plans a thousand years in advance to broaden Lan's Path and supports the Nameless in exchange for future aid to the Xianzhou 424 437.

Divination and Domestic Skills

  • Divination: uses the time and a short sequence of calculations to predict a great victory with complications for Jingliu's next battle 11.
  • Talismans: learned to draw simple talismans during his family's efforts to pray for his health 357.
  • Cooking: takes over grilling when his friends burn or undercook their food and helps Jingliu learn seasoning and preparation 88.
  • Tea brewing: considers himself skilled in the art and chooses it over the expense of hiring an art instructor 226.
  • Alcohol tolerance: normally holds his liquor exceptionally well; the few occasions on which he becomes drunk involve Dan Feng's liquor 212.

Equipment / Weapons / Items

  • Hunt Arrow — Divine power personally bestowed by Lan; capable of detonating a celestial body. Xianyu stores it to preserve his ordinary life 1 72.
  • Colossus — Strategic weapons platform associated with planet-killing technology. Its “Neutron Annihilation” armament can eliminate intelligent life without damaging buildings 13 79.
  • Heaven-Burning Divine Weapons — Two weapons obtained after maximizing Deterrence, stationed on the Xuling and Yaoqing; described as capable of destroying star systems 66 158.
  • Aether-Phase Engine — Requires decades of preparation and eventually becomes ready for activation. Xianyu retains the Alliance's highest authorization to operate it 158 160 220.
  • Tenseiga — Resurrection weapon usable once per person, potentially saving a hundred people at a time. Xianyu cannot activate it because he lacks the required compassionate heart 71 148.
  • Gnosis — Golden chess piece capable of establishing three contracts whose terms must be fulfilled even if the heavens fall; used in his dealings with Lan and the Vidyadhara High Elders 128 138.
  • Mirror Flower, Water Moon — Sword with complete-hypnosis effects controlling the target's five senses. Its full power requires a release command that Xianyu no longer remembers 128.
  • Abundance Fruit — Divided into carefully checked portions to grant his subordinates immortality without making them Emanators 56.
  • Angel of Mercy — Planetary protection item tested against an Aeon's power. It survives an initial attack but fails when the Aeon increases its output 147.
  • Aha's mask and later divine-power gift — The mask contains power capable of destroying several star systems; the later gift contains one-tenth of Aha's divine power and is recommended as an energy source 135 436.
  • Jade Abacus — Used for communication, divination timing, financial transactions, and contact with Matthias 11 193 358.
  • Huaiyan's wedding gifts — A short dagger, longsword, and paired dragon-and-phoenix jade pendants 389.
  • Twin orbiting stars — Named after Xianyu and Jingliu and presented by Akivili as a belated wedding gift 437.

Relationships

  • Jingliu — Wife and only romantic love. Their relationship develops from friendship into dating and marriage; she challenges his secrecy and self-neglect and encourages him to express his own needs 124 299 317 358 381 438.
  • Hua — Ward, successor, and later Xianzhou Marshal. Xianyu plans her education and eventual inheritance of the Alliance; she addresses him as “Father” 177 236 319.
  • Jing Yuan — Academy friend who worked persistently to overcome Xianyu's distance. He supports Xianyu's relationship with Jingliu and later recognizes his role in the Sanctus Medicus counterplot 6 175 397.
  • Lan — Former subordinate and intended successor, later the Aeon of the Hunt. Lan chooses Xianyu as his first Emanator, but his ascension deprives Xianyu of the heir he had hoped would replace him 72 131.
  • Guan Liang / Chief Strategist — Long-serving subordinate involved in Xianyu's government, Hua's upbringing, and wedding preparations. He observes Xianyu's growth from controlling ruler to someone who respects others' independence 66 236 360 376.
  • Akivili — Close friend and traveling companion who urges Xianyu to rest rather than work. Later introduces himself as Eric and gives the newlyweds their twin-star gift 265 277 437.
  • Aha — Troublesome Aeon and self-proclaimed friend. Knows Xianyu's past, hides behind Bacchus's identity, and eventually offers a blessing acknowledging him as a best friend 20 21 302 436.
  • Fuli — Aeon connected to the repeated cycles and Xianyu's concealed history. Xianyu concludes that Fuli has lied to him and accuses Fuli and Erudition of manipulating Lan 76 126 302.
  • Zandar — Former teacher who knew Xianyu as a young arrival. Studies his unusual physiology and remains involved in his efforts to understand earlier cycles 248 278 348 437.
  • Baiheng — Friend who helps bring him into Jingliu's social circle. Enthusiastic about matchmaking, but also willing to scrutinize him out of concern for Jingliu 6 8 373.
  • Dan Feng — Friend and healer who investigates Xianyu's unusual recovery. Helps advance the romance by arranging for Yingxing to ply him with wine 108 170.
  • Yingxing — Friend, drinking companion, and weaponsmith. Discusses advanced weapon development with Xianyu and later shares in caring for Dan Heng 108 186 397.
  • Marty / Matthias — Marty is the researcher Xianyu trusts to develop future defensive weapons. Xianyu later contacts Marty's artificial intelligence and renames it Matthias 188 193.
  • Daiyang and Chenzhen — Former subordinates and retired Cloud Knights who become his housekeepers. Daiyang owns the Luofu's hot pot restaurants 180 183.
  • Chi Yu — Pet cat, sometimes left in Jing Yuan's care. Xianyu provides for her food and litter and frequently carries or pets her 122 394.
  • Dan Heng — Dan Feng's reincarnation, cared for by Xianyu and their friends. Eventually corrects Xianyu's history homework 397.

Trivia

  • His claim to be five thousand years old during the early hot pot gathering is explicitly improvised nonsense to deflect an awkward age discussion, not a straightforward statement of his current age 8.
  • He adopts Xian Zhiyu for the Former Marshal's public records while changing the associated image to reduce the chance of being recognized 370.
  • His formal name uses characters associated with fire to strengthen the weak yin-earth element in his birth chart; “Yu” also evokes sunlight 438.
  • The author explicitly states that Jingliu remains his only love across reincarnation cycles and describes him as “Jingliu-sexual (Sword Champion-exclusive edition)” 299 438.
  • The separate Blasphemy IF timeline depicts him recognizing Jingliu's feelings but telling her that he cannot give her what she wants; this is not the main story's marriage outcome 375 438.
  • His reputation as a “kept man” conceals enormous personal wealth. Jingliu cannot initially count the zeroes in the balance he shows her 358.
  • Dan Heng corrects Xianyu's homework by explaining that the Father of the Xianzhou never proclaimed himself emperor. Xianyu still possesses the ten-thousand-word essay once written to persuade him to take the throne 360 397.
