Background / History
Battle against the human
ULB confronts the human after the Underground has been emptied by slaughter. She survives a potentially fatal blade strike when it inexplicably veers off course, leaving her with 0.000001/1 HP. She drinks ketchup to restore her HP to 1 and prepares to continue fighting. Murder and Killer arrive moments later to assist her 7.
Although surprised by the dangerous-looking strangers, ULB accepts their help. Killer blocks the human’s ability to load, and the three coordinate their attacks: Murder and Killer force openings for ULB’s bone strikes, while she supplements their magical barrage with blue bones. The sustained assault exhausts her, prompting Killer to save 8 9.
The human’s modified HP prevents an ordinary victory. After an attack against ULB produces “NO EFFECT,” ▇▇▇ begins speaking through her. White code fills her eyes, cracks appear across her face, and the timeline starts falling apart. During this confrontation, the human loses access to actions and Debug, while their HP becomes -1/1 10.
ULB attacks the regenerating human and condemns their habit of resetting lives to explore different outcomes. The battle ends when she restrains the human and ███ breaks their soul. After ███ leaves her body, ULB collapses with another knife wound and turns to dust, remembering Undyne, MTT NEO, and Papyrus. She dies smiling, believing she has avenged them 11 12.
Restoration and reset
Killer waits until the person controlling the human appears to abandon or delete the game, then loads her earlier save. The load repairs the missing world code and restores ULB. The human returns without an active controller, allowing Killer to behead them without resistance 12 13.
Killer tells ULB that the human can no longer enter her world and offers to reset her universe. After accepting the explanation, ULB exchanges introductions and hugs with Killer and Murder. She chooses ULB as her distinguishing name because the human repeatedly called her that during their battles, though she does not know its meaning. Killer resets the universe before departing with Murder 13.
Encounter with her counterparts
ULB later sleeps at a sentry station in the peaceful Underground while Papyrus scolds her for being lazy. She is content simply to see him alive again. Her rest is interrupted by an unexplained encounter with two other versions of herself in the corridor; she remarks that she has “crossed over again” and expects the human to appear shortly 39.
Appearance
- Relative height: Slightly taller than Killer and shorter than Murder 8 10.
- Eyes: Shine white when she prepares to resume fighting; her left eye later flickers yellow and blue during the possession-assisted battle 7 11.
- Possessed face: Eyes filled with chaotic white code, with cracks at the upper right and lower left of her face and a void visible inside her mouth 10.
- Unnatural movements: Her head twitches or shakes rapidly during the later stages of the battle 11 12.
Personality
ULB remains defiant even when nearly killed, struggling upright with a smile and joking that luck is on her side. She is pragmatic about accepting unfamiliar allies and readily coordinates with Murder and Killer rather than questioning their motives during the fight 7 8 9.
Her anger centers on the human’s treatment of other lives as disposable game pieces. She remembers the monsters who resisted them and considers their defeat an act of vengeance. Nevertheless, she is grateful to her rescuers and longs for peaceful days rather than continued fighting 11 12.
Once peace is restored, she returns to sleeping at her sentry station despite Papyrus’s complaints. Seeing her brother alive is enough to make her smile 39.
Abilities & Skills
Bone Combat and Magic
- Wields a very long bone as a melee weapon, striking hard enough to crack the human’s head 7 9.
- Releases broad, powerful slashing energy from her bone; stray attacks leave enormous cracks throughout the corridor 9.
- Conceals blue bones within Murder’s bone barrage to inflict additional damage 9.
- Her sustained full-power attacks consume stamina, eventually leaving her unable to remain standing 9 10.
Mobility and Close Combat
- Uses acrobatic movement, including a ceiling-assisted backflip and dive, to exploit openings created by her allies 9.
- Moves faster than the human can counter with their knife and delivers kicks that send them across the corridor 9.
- Uses shortcuts during the coordinated pursuit and later teleports directly beside the human 9 12.
Possession-Assisted Powers
These feats occur while ULB shares her body with ▇▇▇/███, rather than being established as independent abilities.
- Fires a massive energy blast from her mouth 11.
- Conjures enormous hands that crush, reshape, and tear apart the human’s body 11.
- Floats in the air and appears around the human at uncanny speed amid drifting code 11.
- Summons a giant ███ blaster that bites into the human 11.
- Helps restrain the human while ███, not ULB alone, seizes and breaks their soul 12.
Equipment / Items
- Long bone — Her principal melee weapon; also supports her when she is exhausted 7 9 10.
- Ketchup bottle — Restores her HP from 0.000001 to her full maximum of 1 7.
Relationships
- Papyrus — Her younger brother. She remembers his smiling confrontation with the human before her death and cherishes seeing him alive after the reset 12 39.
- Killer Sans — Ally and friend who saves during the battle, restores ULB after her death, and resets her universe 9 12 13.
- Murder Sans — Ally and friend who coordinates attacks with her, helps her to her feet after restoration, and explains Killer’s ability to reset her world 9 12 13.
- ▇▇▇ / ███ — The entity speaking through and occupying her body during the final battle. ULB remains conscious enough to answer its criticism; its departure precedes her death 10 12.
- The human — Her enemy, whose repeated resets and slaughter she condemns. Their modified HP prolongs the battle until ███ destroys their soul 10 11 12.
Notable Quotes
“Human, you treated their lives as a game of strategy... To explore new outcomes, you reset them to zero again and again, didn't you?” 11
“Why don't you call me ULB? That human kept calling me ULB, ULB when we fought. I don't know what it means, but at least it'll help tell us apart.” 13
