Peter’s attempt to stop the black-market weapons deal ended with the ferry breaking apart, but MOSS saved it and revealed the Second Alliance to him. John continued hunting Lies while Skrull radicals prepared to build a home on Earth.
Lies enabled ambitious Skrulls to unleash Black Market weapons and infiltrate New York's influential figures, plunging the city into chaos. As Spider-Man and Hell's Kitchen's vigilantes fought back, Ivan announced that an enemy had returned and sent the Second Alliance into action.
Ivan tested his magic-powered Wind Speed Fighter while John used MOSS to track down Lies in Chinatown. John confronted Lies at a teahouse and disarmed him, but Lies hinted that old friends were waiting to speak with him.
Gravik used the Super-Skrull machine to gain the powers of many heroes and tried to replace John, but John fought back with magic. The battle continued after Gravik survived John's attacks and unleashed a massive explosion that left John unharmed.
John defeated Gravik in the Mirror Dimension by enduring his stolen superhero powers and revealing that John's blood carried a deadly curse. After retrieving Lies' key, John questioned Lies about fate and the person he had lost, leaving their conversation unresolved.
John learned from Lies that his arrival had shattered the Sacred Timeline and made him a variant targeted by Fate and the other Johns. After Ivan helped capture Lies, John turned to Peter, who was in danger beneath the Statue of Liberty.
John questioned Lies about the world he came from, but Lies escaped through a Dark Elf Bomb that opened a wormhole. In the aftermath of the New York crisis, Peter matured, and John prepared to leave on the journey the Vishanti had advised.
Peter declined Tony's invitation to join the Avengers, and Tony turned the planned announcement into a proposal to Pepper. After visiting Peter and warning him to value his own life as well as others, John left New York, saying he might return soon.
The Wizarding Kingdom advanced its magical technology while Percy pressured the United States over weapons developed against wizards. John met Dreamwalker in the dream hall to discuss his coming journey into space, and Dreamwalker pointed him toward the Nine Realms and a mysterious region created by God.
John used the Casket of Ancient Winters and the Cycle Lock Pin to seal the White Wolf, then set off through the barrier above Wizard City into the universe. His departure was witnessed by friends across the world, while a new suitor arrived at Delacour Manor.
John arrived in Niflheim by Bifrost and crossed its frozen, mist-covered wilderness, where he encountered a carnivorous plant. He reached a sheltered town and found a pale-skinned, gray-eyed person caught by another man-eating flower.
John rescued Tos from a Tiger Grass Dragon in Niflheim, learned about the Great Winter and the divide between the Noble Black and the Pale Children, and entered a Noble Black fortress. He discovered that a guest inside carried information about the legendary Hvergelmir's Spring Water.
At Amyfield’s gathering, John learned about Hvergelmir’s Spring Water and the dangers of reaching it, then declined offers to join other expeditions. Amyfield proposed that he work with her and promised a greater reward if he brought back the water, but John chose to pursue it alone.
John bought a large supply of fish oil and used Transfiguration to travel with Tos in a sleigh pulled by seven dogs. After a Dragon destroyed the sleigh, John spoke with it, removed its enslavement device, and asked it for help as they continued toward Hvergelmir.
John and Tos crossed a frozen river filled with Inferi, and John helped Tos survive the creatures’ pursuit. They reached a misty forest, where an old woman offered water from the Well of Wisdom in exchange for one eye.
John and Tos crossed the Mist Forest after John tricked the old woman into accepting an Inferius's eye, then reached the poisonous Vimur River and built a boat from an Inferi Giant's bones. As they rowed through the mist, the legendary Swaying Ymir appeared and headed straight for them.
John and Tos escaped Ymir and reached an unknown shore near Hvergelmir, where giant footprints warned of new dangers. On Earth, Pepper Potts recovered memories of her sister Shirley, while Percy prepared to restore the memories of families whose loved ones had used Obliviate.
Pepper traveled toward Wizard City to visit her fallen younger sister after the families of dead Wizards had their memories restored, while Tony watched her depart aboard the Magic Train. In Niflheim, John and Tos reached Hvergelmir's Spring Water, and John prepared to test its mysterious effects.
John discovered magic in the Primordial Spring and emerged just as Eda arrived, transformed by the River Goddess’s curse. After Eda attacked and John killed him, Amyfield revealed herself by shedding the old woman’s disguise.
John rejected Amyfield’s offer to father her child of magic and continued toward Ginnungagap after parting ways with Tos. Tos returned home determined to become a warrior, while John found himself in the Land of the Dead.
John explored Helheim, met Paul, and used a dead wizard’s soul to hide from the restless dead, but a hair-thin bridge blocked his way into the deeper Land of the Dead. Meanwhile, Pepper Potts arrived at Wizard City and found her sister’s name on the memorial to those killed on Magic Crystal Island, while learning of her country’s past greed.
Tony investigated the Wizarding Kingdom’s teleportation magic as the Second Alliance hunted Skrulls and the U.S. pursued a weapon based on Gravik’s Super-Skrull machine. In Helheim, Paul confronted Amyfield while John encountered the Grim Reaper and heard an army approaching.
John visited Hela in Helheim and offered to help her escape, but she refused the portal and chose to leave only by conquering her way out. After John was expelled, Amyfield arrived looking for him and fought Hela, while the weakening prison left Hela sensing that Odin was nearing his end.
Odin confronted Hela after sensing that her seal had been breached, then collapsed in Norway as his life neared its end. Meanwhile, John reached Ginnungagap, hired the space pirate Rambo to fly him toward Muspelheim, and began learning how to pilot the ship.
John learned to pilot Rambo’s ship, bought a fire dragon egg, and escaped the pirates’ attempt to rob him by stealing their vessel. As he traveled through space, he nearly collided with the Guardians, who were responding to a distress signal.
