Background / History

Thor is Odin and Frigga’s son, Loki’s elder brother, and Hela’s younger brother. He regards Loki as a biological brother despite knowing they are not related by blood. Hela’s existence is initially hidden from him; Yang Bo reveals that Odin’s eldest daughter is sealed on Earth and connected to the prophecy of Ragnarok 118 250 285 481.

After fighting on the Frost Giants’ territory, Thor is stripped of his divine power and exiled to Earth. He arrives in New Mexico, where Jane Foster and Erik Selvig encounter him. S.H.I.E.L.D. subsequently approaches him after Yang Bo informs Coulson that the prince of Asgard has arrived 110 112 113.

Different Universes

  • Yang Bo’s home-world Thor becomes his friend, trains in the Arena, succeeds Odin, and accepts displaced Loki variants into Asgard 129 432 481.
  • Universe Two’s Thor loses Mjolnir to Yang Bo, awakens his innate lightning power, and negotiates for the hammer’s return and the repair of the Bifrost 150 157 168 187.
  • The future Avengers version wields Stormbreaker, volunteers to use the Infinity Gauntlet, and attacks Thanos to avenge his murdered Loki 189 191 196.
  • “Thor No. 2” is distinguished from the home-world Thor when both are present at Little Planet’s laboratory. His own Loki is dead 466.
  • Frog Thor is not Thor transformed into a frog. Yang Bo explicitly identifies him as another being who can lift Mjolnir 481.

Appearance

  • Powerful build: Thor remains visibly muscular and physically formidable even after Odin removes his divine power 113.
  • Summoned armor: His armor manifests when his power returns and when lightning strikes him before the confrontation with Hela 118 431.
  • Lightning-filled eyes: Silver-white lightning fills his eyes when he fights at full strength 432.
  • Alternate-world weight changes: A later-world Thor previously had an enormous beer belly but is muscular again when Yang Bo meets him in New Asgard 191 459.

Personality

Thor begins as proud, impulsive, and dismissive of people he does not consider impressive. He initially overlooks Yang Bo, responds more warmly to Captain America’s obvious strength, and follows Coulson without considering whether the agent might have ulterior motives. His unfamiliarity with Earth’s customs also causes trouble: he throws a diner cup onto the floor to request another drink, following Asgardian tradition 113 115.

His exile gradually teaches him responsibility. He refuses to leave Earth before earning Mjolnir’s recognition and offers his life to stop the Destroyer from harming others. As king, he places the safety of Asgard’s people ahead of Hela’s claim to the throne 116 118 433.

Thor loves battle and respects strong opponents. He eagerly challenges Clark even when Yang Bo presents him as a training opponent, openly acknowledges Hulk’s strength, and complains when Yang Bo nearly leaves him out of the assault on Darkseid’s world. Despite his princely status, he treats ordinary Asgardians like friends 129 248 283 399.

His loyalty to family coexists with bluntness and poor tact. He repeatedly protects Loki, seeks mercy for Hela, and grieves Odin’s death, yet casually proposes visiting Odin in Valhalla through a Teleportation Stone Tablet. His later conduct shows greater restraint: when Hela threatens his throne, he considers containment rather than immediately attacking her again 152 430 432 433.

Abilities & Skills

Lightning and Weather Control

Thor releases lightning from his body, channels it through weapons, and controls storm clouds 149 150 284.

  • Creates a vortex of dark clouds while spinning Mjolnir and blocks the Destroyer’s beam with the hammer 118.
  • Surrounds his limbs with lightning during close combat and launches explosive lightning attacks into enemy formations 248 399.
  • Uses lightning to numb Clark and shields himself against Clark’s freezing breath 284.
  • Knocks Hela’s thrown swords off course with surrounding lightning 432.
  • Environmental limitation: Fighting underground prevents him from affecting the outside weather and considerably reduces the power of his storm attack 150.
  • Counter: Kaecilius’s Magic Armor absorbs his electricity and converts it into energy for retaliatory beams 150.

Asgardian Physique and Recovery

Thor retains exceptional physical strength even without divine power. During his early battles, his durability is substantially greater than his offensive strength 112 113 150.

  • Withstands powerful energy beams and repeated blows from opponents such as Hulk and Clark 150 248 284.
  • Resists ordinary deadly poisons through his physique and divine power 156.
  • Recovers rapidly with divine power after Yang Bo resurrects him 458.
  • Limits: The Wither’s harmful effect still affects him, and All-Black the Necrosword suppresses his divine power while draining his life force 156 458.
  • No resurrection ability: Thor explicitly states that he cannot resurrect people 158.

Weapon Mastery

Thor fights with Mjolnir and later favors Stormbreaker, also called the Thunder Battle Axe 431 432.

  • Recalls his weapons to his hand and uses Mjolnir for flight, including carrying Yang Bo to Odin’s palace 137 189.
  • Combines hammer strikes, axe attacks, lightning, and close-range kicks 431 432.
  • Dual-wields Mjolnir and Stormbreaker against Hela, using the hammer to intercept attacks from behind 432.
  • Develops highly refined axe technique through repeated Arena training 432.

Bifrost Travel

  • Summons the Bifrost with the Thunder Battle Axe to transport the group from Earth to Asgard 434.
  • Seeks the Tesseract’s power to repair the broken Bifrost, both to stabilize the Nine Realms and to make visiting Jane easier 129.

Equipment / Weapons / Items

  • Mjolnir — Thor’s enchanted hammer. Odin’s worthiness restriction prevents the exiled Thor from lifting or recalling it until his power is restored. Yang Bo can bypass its normal handling restrictions through Minecraft item mechanics 110 114 118 150.
  • Stormbreaker / Thunder Battle Axe — His later primary weapon, which he considers better suited to him than Mjolnir. It channels lightning, summons the Bifrost, and cuts through Hela’s divinely reinforced sword 431 432 434.
  • Divine armor — Appears with his restored power and can be summoned through lightning. It is badly damaged during his battle with Clark 118 284 431.
  • Tesseract, temporarily entrusted to him — Used to repair Asgard’s Bifrost. In Universe Two, Thor later breaks its outer shell at Yang Bo’s request 129 130 187.

Relationships

  • Yang Bo — Friend, benefactor, trading partner, and occasional opponent across universes. Their home-world friendship includes ships, favors, healing, and joint battles; another Thor must bargain with him for Mjolnir and Loki 130 168 284 399.
  • Odin — Father and predecessor as king. Odin’s punishment initiates Thor’s growth, while a later sparring match drains divine power Odin was using to prolong his life 110 430 431.
  • Frigga — Mother. Thor keeps her company in Asgard’s temple and receives the displaced Loki variants in her presence 481.
  • Loki — Adoptive younger brother whom Thor considers no different from a blood brother. He repeatedly tries to protect and bring Loki home, although he agrees to leave one version with Yang Bo for a year of rehabilitation 152 168 248 250.
  • Hela — Biological elder sister and rival claimant to Asgard. Thor defeats her but seeks revival and containment rather than permanent death 285 432 433.
  • Jane Foster — Romantic attachment and later fellow wielder of Mjolnir. She comforts him during exile; a later-world Thor still wishes to reunite with her and accompanies her for cancer treatment 114 458 459 465.
  • Hulk — Arena rival. Their match ends in a draw, and Thor acknowledges Hulk’s exceptional strength and superior healing 248.
  • Clark Kent — Respected sparring opponent. Thor initially wins through lightning damage, but later admits he can no longer defeat Clark 284 434.
  • Kaecilius — Magical opponent who defeats and restrains an alternate-world Thor, then redirects his later charge through a Portal 150 157.
  • Old Loki and Young Loki — Displaced variants accepted into Asgard as potential military allies. Young Loki attacks Thor on arrival and reveals that he killed his own world’s Thor 481.

Story Role / Major Arcs

Earth Exile and the Destroyer

Thor’s repeated failure to lift Mjolnir leaves him distraught. Yang Bo takes possession of the hammer and demands Asgardian technology, materials, and the Destroyer’s remains as compensation for its earlier impact on him 114 115.

Loki visits Thor and falsely reports Odin’s death. Thor resolves to accept responsibility for his actions and remain on Earth until Mjolnir acknowledges him. During the Destroyer attack, he stands between it and Yang Bo and asks that his life be taken instead of the others’. The resulting blow leaves him apparently lifeless, but Mjolnir returns, restores him, and enables him to strike down the Destroyer 116 118.

Asgard and Yang Bo’s Settlement

With Odin asleep, Thor spends his time suppressing rebellions throughout the Nine Realms. He accepts Yang Bo’s loan of the Tesseract for Bifrost repairs and agrees to provide two small spaceships in payment 128 129.

Thor also offers Yang Bo captured pirate-ship wrecks, helps search for a habitable planet, and brings him to meet the awakened Odin. During Yang Bo’s stay, Thor frequently visits him and Jane 130 137 138.

Alternate New York Conflict

In another universe, Thor intervenes to retrieve Loki and attacks Yang Bo. Kaecilius defeats him in the Mirror Dimension, and Yang Bo mines Mjolnir into an inventory item before sending Thor back through a Portal 149 150 151.

The confrontation escalates during the New York battle. Thor struggles against an airborne Wither while without his hammer, then fully awakens his lightning power in rage after Yang Bo closes the wormhole. He eventually accepts a bargain involving an Infinity Gauntlet, the Space Stone, Mjolnir’s return, and one year of Loki’s rehabilitation 156 157 167 168.

Future Avengers and Thanos

A future version of Thor volunteers to use the completed Infinity Gauntlet, pleading for the chance to do something right. Banner instead performs the snap 191.

During the subsequent attack on Thanos, Thor repeatedly punches him and invokes Loki’s death as his reason for revenge. He summons Stormbreaker, but Scarlet Witch interrupts before he can deliver the intended finishing attack 196.

Arena Battles and Darkseid’s World

Thor fights Hulk to a draw and later defeats Clark in a brutal Arena match. He credits the latter victory to lightning’s effectiveness against Clark rather than superior physical strength. Yang Bo heals him afterward 248 283 284.

Thor also joins the invasion of Darkseid’s world, cutting through Parademons and insisting that friendship—not the prospect of loot—is sufficient reason to help Yang Bo 399.

Succession and Hela

Odin names Thor the next divine king before dissolving into golden light. Thor later explains that his unexpectedly rapid growth prompted Odin to test him, and their all-out fight consumed much of the power sustaining Odin’s failing body 430 431.

When Hela emerges, Thor defeats her on Earth with Stormbreaker and Mjolnir. He has Yang Bo revive her, but she attacks again and is beheaded. Thor subsequently considers sealing her or sending her to another world, prioritizing his responsibility to Asgard’s people. He accompanies Yang Bo when Hela challenges him in Asgard 432 433 434.

New Asgard and the City of Omniscience

A later-world Thor arrives by Bifrost during the attack on New Asgard and collides with Gorr. Stormbreaker pierces Gorr, but All-Black the Necrosword pierces Thor and leaves him dying. Knowing Yang Bo can resurrect him, Thor asks Jane to kill him; Yang Bo performs the killing and immediately restores him with Hero Immortal 458.

After recovering, Thor travels with the group to the City of Omniscience. The Lasso of Truth exposes his desire to reunite with Jane. His admiration for Zeus is met with public mockery, and Yang Bo later warns that Hercules may pursue him 459 460 461 465.

Laboratory Tests and Loki Variants

The home-world Thor and Loki undergo examinations at Little Planet after Banner proposes studying Asgardian bodies to improve their strength. Thor hopes to gain an energy-absorption ability but has not acquired it in the supplied passages 465 466.

At his latest documented appearance, Thor accepts Old Loki and Young Loki into Asgard. Despite Young Loki’s hostility, he recognizes their potential value to an army that needs stronger fighters 481.
