Power Progression

Stage / Realm / Level Chapter Notes
Fourth Tier 96 Breaks through from the third tier amid gathering winds, advancing ahead of Lou Guanshan and Kou Ying.
Soul Creation 115 With her usual powers sealed, repeatedly practices drawing a bow until she creates a soul-powered bow and arrow. Her shot shatters the trial’s white space.
Law of the Flowing Wind combined with Soul Creation 146 147 Adds the law’s power to her soul-created arrows during the rematch against the teachers and principals.
Seventh Tier 387 Advances through speed training under Mo Yi and seven seventh-tier Azure Dragon Division members, eventually moving faster than the wind and evading their attacks.
Temporary future-derived empowerment 589 Mu Bingge draws power from Wan Lan’s future self through the River of Time. The borrowed wind allows her to merge into the Thousand Winds and draw down the Land of No Battle; this is not identified as a permanent rank advancement.
True Seal of the Self and My Words Become Truth 605 606 Demonstrates two newly developed abilities: rejecting outside interference and changing surroundings through spoken declarations. She cannot yet identify their underlying concept.
Ninth Rank 610 Explicitly identified as ninth rank. Finds Level Twelve Calamities inadequate for practice and requests Level Thirteen opponents.
Order Origin understood 675 During training with [Thought-Madness], stops trying to suppress contradictory thoughts and instead establishes the conditions under which each applies. Declares that no one can influence her within her rules of Order.

Appearance

Wan Lan has clear blue-green eyes, also described as cyan. Her wind power can make them appear filled with a gathering storm. In quiet moments, her pale green clothing and ethereal bearing evoke a woodland sprite—a contrast the narration immediately undercuts with her sharp tongue 115 250 618.

  • League outfit: A green modern Chinese-style sleeveless top with a diagonal opening, knotted buttons, and delicate patterns; loose trousers tucked into combat boots 253.
  • Archery gear: Bracers extend over her palms and bow-drawing fingers, while a brocade-like belt stores her longbow 253.
  • Expressions: Frequently raises an eyebrow, rolls her eyes, or smiles just before provoking someone 96 189 239.

Personality

Wan Lan is competitive, outspoken, and stubborn enough to treat repeated failure as a reason to keep trying. She seeks out capable opponents, deliberately targets Su Wuwei during the Points Competition, and promises to overtake Mu Bingge after losing to her. Her persistence becomes especially clear during Soul Creation, when she continues the same practiced archery movements until they produce a weapon despite her sealed powers 42 44 115.

Her aggression is not indiscriminate recklessness. She accepts retreat when a battle cannot be won, recognizes that overwhelming power may carry hidden dangers, and notices Kou Ying’s fear of losing control. Guan Xiaomei nevertheless worries that Wan Lan’s determination to challenge stronger enemies may eventually get her killed 22 97 307.

She rejects the idea that power determines a person’s worth. When others belittle ordinary lives, she defends the people who grow food, develop weapons, and build space stations. During the debate over the Present World’s future, she likewise insists that souls must be treated as people with their own feelings and choices, not merely as resources 78 123.

Wan Lan is curious about her teammates’ secrets without initially demanding ownership of them. She welcomes their knowledge as a source of information, later investigates their Calamity connections herself, and takes obvious satisfaction in knowing things that their alternate identities have not revealed to them 74 191 243.

Abilities & Skills

Wind Manipulation and Archery

Wan Lan’s core fighting style combines a longbow with wind-generated arrows. Her early attacks turn the breeze into emerald feathers before releasing a vast volley 22.

  • Thousand-Blade Hurricane: A violent gale carrying razor-sharp arrows that pierce and shred its target 43.
  • Gale Arrow: A penetrating shot used against [Earthshaker] while it controls Lou Guanshan’s body 171.
  • Myriad Arrows Fired Together: A mass-volley technique used while fighting five Level Thirteen Calamities 618.
  • Sustained bombardment: Can charge and release wind arrows like airborne automatic fire; later produces millions of arrows in a single assault 304 723.
  • Precision: Describes her close-range accuracy as practically perfect before Ye Buyu’s new ability redirects her unenhanced arrows 604.

Soul Creation

Wan Lan creates a brilliant, feather-light longbow and a sharp arrow with a transparent bowstring. The first successful shot carries a soul storm, breaks the trial space, and returns to her hand when recalled 115.

  • Combines Soul Creation with the Law of the Flowing Wind 146.
  • Uses soul-powered arrows to help Guan Xiaomei perceive Soul Power, then shatters Guan’s newly created sword to demonstrate its fragility 144.
  • Creates the bow and arrow despite being warned afterward that these are harder to form than other weapons 115.

Flight, Speed, and Wind Sensing

Wan Lan uses wind for transportation, evasion, and detection.

  • Group transport: Carries Ye Buyu, Kou Ying, Lou Guanshan, Su Wuwei, and Mu Bingge through the air together 68.
  • High-speed movement: Reaches the seventh tier by surpassing the speed of the wind during intensive training 387.
  • Detection: Uses microscopic energy winds to outline an otherwise elusive enemy’s physical presence 542.
  • Utility: Gathers loose sand and stone with a wind funnel and gently dries her companions’ soaked clothes and hair 287 728.
  • Large-scale transport: Returns to Headquarters with one hundred thousand soldiers suspended like human kites 718.

Close-Quarters Combat

Wan Lan fights effectively at melee range rather than relying solely on distance.

  • A flying kick sends Su Wuwei several meters backward and nearly breaks his defending arms 42.
  • Uses arrows as stabbing weapons, combines punches with knee strikes, and strikes enemies with the bow itself 542 618.
  • Can brace her bow with one foot and draw it with one hand while under attack 618.
  • Her instructors specifically pressure her at close range, forcing her to develop the speed needed to escape concentrated assaults 387.

True Seal of the Self

True Seal of the Self marks an individual or object so that it rejects interference from other powers. Wan Lan develops it as an answer to opponents whose unpredictable abilities would otherwise require separate counters 605 606.

  • Prevents Ye Buyu’s and Kou Ying’s tested abilities from interfering with her arrows 605.
  • Stops opponents from weakening her power or altering her attack trajectories 610.
  • Allows her to take control of marked targets. When she forms a seal inside a Level Thirteen Calamity, she perceives its bodily structure and prevents its attempted bodily detonation 613.
  • Makes inflicted injuries difficult to treat because the affected areas resist the victim’s own power 618.

My Words Become Truth

Some of Wan Lan’s declarations have a chance to alter reality. Its first demonstration causes dust throughout several hundred meters to rise after she states that there is no dust nearby 605.

  • Combines spoken restrictions with penetrating attacks: against a frost-using Calamity, she declares that its power cannot freeze her arrow and that its internal injuries will worsen 613.
  • The ability is not initially presented as guaranteed; Wan Lan explicitly describes its effects as occurring by chance 605.

Order

Wan Lan’s underlying concept is Order: determining how things operate within her own rules rather than simply suppressing every competing influence 675.

  • Divides [Thought-Madness]’s chaotic thought power into orderly wisps of blue-green wind 675.
  • Borrows a small portion of the Thousand-Wind Ancient Road’s power, but explicitly cannot command it or claim authority above it 675.
  • Draws on a world’s converging order to bind fleeing enemies with wind chains 723.
  • Uses order to mark and expose [Colonialism], countering its concealment. The enemy can still exploit shadows and gaps in that search, so exposure does not make it helpless 724.

Investigation, Teaching, and Infiltration

  • Investigation: Uses the Royal Knights’ archives to research the Calamities associated with her teammates and considers [Void Order] as a possible lead for Kou Ying 191.
  • Interrogation: Flatters [Iron Prison]’s guard into revealing information about its movements during the Great Cataclysm 234.
  • Infiltration: Wins over disguised Calamities by enthusiastically cursing Hold Up the Heavens—her own team 350.
  • Teaching: Uses demanding combat lessons to expose weaknesses in students’ Soul Creations and practical fighting skills 144 189.
  • Critical questioning: Challenges proposals for the future so that ordinary souls can understand the alternatives and choose for themselves 115 122 123.

Equipment & Items

  • Longbow: Her principal weapon, also used as a blunt weapon in close combat 22 618.
  • Calamity-material bracers: Cover her wrists, palms, and bow-drawing fingers 253.
  • Storage belt: Resembles brocade but functions as storage for her longbow 253.
  • Terminal: Used to search archives, communicate, and coordinate allies 191 627.
  • Honorary Knight badge: Sought primarily to obtain access to the Royal Knights’ restricted reference room 190.
  • [Chaos] Divine Status fragment: Acquired after [Chaos] attempts to possess her. She later stresses that it is fundamentally different from her own developed ability 545 603.

Relationships

  • Ye Buyu — Teammate and captain, who calls her “Sis Lan.” Wan Lan repeatedly tries to protect or recover her, including catching her during the Clown game and attempting to stop her abduction by the Salvation Hall of Fame’s Chief 96 329 404 627.
  • Guan Xiaomei — Childhood friend, sparring partner, and outspoken critic of her risk-taking. Guan acknowledges Wan Lan’s greater strength but fears losing her to a reckless challenge 144 307.
  • Mu Bingge — Teammate and longstanding rival. Wan Lan vows to surpass her after the Points Competition; Mu later helps her borrow power from her future self 43 44 589.
  • Lou Guanshan — Teammate and rival whose melodramatic behavior often exasperates her. When [Earthshaker] possesses him, she attacks the controlled body to prevent him from being forced to harm his friends 44 171.
  • Kou Ying — Teammate whose hidden power and misfortune draw her curiosity. She recognizes his anxiety about losing control and later threatens retaliation when he becomes too enthusiastic about using her as bait 97 191 348.
  • Su Wuwei — Teammate she actively seeks out as a challenging opponent. Her blunt advice later helps him recognize Civilization as his Origin 42 676.
  • Duke Slyder — Assigned protector and frequent target of her teasing. Their antagonistic banter coexists with genuine sympathy: she recognizes how much manipulation and pressure he has endured 189 190 239.
  • [Wind and Thunder King] / Wind-Thunder — Former enemy who says she forced it to self-detonate twice. It later approaches her seeking survival and cooperation, becoming an undercover contact she asks to guide Blue Sea and Little White 227 228 229 301.
  • Wujia — Soldier in the army she raises. She challenges his learned helplessness and encourages him to question the beliefs imposed on his people 718 721.

History

Points Competition and Soul Creation

Wan Lan reaches the final three of the Points Competition alongside Lou Guanshan and Mu Bingge. She and Lou attack Mu together, with Wan Lan deploying Thousand-Blade Hurricane. Although she identifies and destroys the core shard of Mu’s illusion technique, Mu ultimately wins the competition 43.

During the Soul Creation trial, Wan Lan overcomes the sealing of her powers through persistent practice. She then declines to simulate a future of her own, rejecting the assumption that she should become a solitary savior. Instead, she accepts the role of questioning other people’s proposals so that the souls affected can make informed decisions 115.

She follows through by challenging her teammates’ proposals. Her objections focus on the will of the souls involved and the need to connect Awakened society with ordinary people rather than treating humanity as an expendable source of strength 122 123.

Teaching and the New Rome Investigation

After helping classmates learn Soul Creation, Wan Lan becomes a lecturer at Orbis Academy in New Rome. Her harsh lessons and sharper criticism quickly overturn the staff and students’ initial attempts to intimidate her through seniority 144 189.

She completes the Royal Knights’ challenges and Hell-Level Knight Trial to earn an Honorary Knight title. Her actual objective is access to their restricted archives, where she investigates the Calamity powers behind her teammates 189 190 191.

Her research brings her into renewed contact with the [Wind and Thunder King], which offers cooperation. She later joins Slyder, Gerard, and Kelin in approaching [Iron Prison]’s palace. When an invisible force binds her, Slyder breaks its hold and orders Gerard to take her away 228 229 234.

Awakened League and Beyond the Present World

Wan Lan reunites with her teammates at the Awakened League and continues competing against them as well as outside opponents. In the Land of Exile, she helps gather uncontaminated stone, drawing the surrounding Calamities’ attention, and later arranges for Blue Sea to join the Calamity group chat, Traitor’s Home 254 269 287 301.

During the operation to lure out Void Cultists, a disguise-potion accident turns her into a cucumber. She turns the situation into an infiltration opportunity, earning other Calamities’ approval by denouncing Hold Up the Heavens 349 350.

After reaching the seventh tier, she continues seeking opportunities to improve, including studying the winds of the Thousand-Wind Ancient Road. Encounters with other civilizations reveal that the Present World’s early access to Soul Power is highly unusual: Xiang Mingyang tells her that humans elsewhere normally require the eighth tier to master it 387 398 462.

[Chaos] and the Development of Order

When [Chaos] abandons its body and attempts to possess her, Wan Lan confronts it inside her Mindscape. Her teammates join her, and together they beat it into surrender. Its Divine Status proves too hard for her to crush, leading the group to question it about its creation and the Whispers of Fate 545.

Wan Lan subsequently develops True Seal of the Self and My Words Become Truth. At ninth rank, she challenges Level Thirteen Calamities, penetrating immense ice defenses and demonstrating control over an opponent’s marked body. She later withstands a coordinated assault by five such enemies 605 610 613 618.

Training with [Thought-Madness] clarifies her Origin. Rather than treating contradictory ideas as things that must all be silenced, she recognizes that their validity depends on conditions—and that she can determine the rules governing her own domain 675.

Revolution and the Battle with [Colonialism]

In a distant Divine Realm, Wan Lan and Su Wuwei uncover the destruction and suppression of a native civilization’s heritage. Wan Lan raises an army, questions the beliefs imposed on its people, and challenges the notion that their exploitation reflects their own lack of intelligence or ability 717 718 719.

Their renewed confrontation with [Colonialism] draws strength from the civilization’s reestablished order. Wan Lan binds its agents, exposes its concealment, and fights through its chain-filled domain alongside Su Wuwei. Both are wounded, but she continues attacking despite severe pain 723 724 725.

Sealed Consciousnesses and Return

Wan Lan is later among the six consciousnesses trapped in a sealed space. They debate how to escape without bringing their Godheads into the Present World and dividing it into six Divine Realms. Comparing the characters seen during time travel leads them to speculate that they themselves created the Black Box and Divine-Character Fragments as part of a causal loop 747.

She subsequently appears before Guan Xiaomei, Wei Changming, and the others. Her unusually reflective greeting briefly makes Guan question her identity, but Wan Lan’s immediate, cutting retort dispels the doubt 751.

Notable Quotes

“I have the right to decide what kind of future I live in, and the freedom to fight for the future I want.” 115

“Within my rules of Order, no one can influence me!” 675

Trivia

  • Wan Lan repeatedly eats candy after fights or during conversations, including after losing to Mu Bingge, breaking through to the fourth tier, and speaking with the [Wind and Thunder King] 44 96 230.
  • Guan Xiaomei later copies her teaching method of immediately breaking a student’s newly formed Soul Creation. When the team points this out, Wan Lan looks away 155.
  • Despite initially complaining that she has “no cheats” or secret identities, she eventually develops abilities that directly counter her teammates’ unusual powers 115 605.
