Background / History
Xue Qinghe publicly served as the Crown Prince of the Heaven Dou Empire. He entered a marriage alliance with Spirit Hall Saintess Bing Jiu, whose arrival in Heaven Dou was received as a major political event. Emperor Xue Ye immediately named her Crown Princess, intending for the pair to jointly inherit the empire after her coming of age. 9 12
Although he presented himself as Heaven Dou’s heir, Xue Qinghe maintained ties to Spirit Hall. He received letters from the Spirit Hall Pope, whom he called his mother, and had spent years risking exposure to send her letters without receiving replies. 7 12
He later became involved in escalating power struggles within Heaven Dou. He secretly planned to overthrow Emperor Xue Ye over the emperor’s attempt to control Bing Jiu through marriage, then mobilized public sentiment against his father. 79 116

Xue Qinghe was outwardly refined, gentle, and attentive. Before Bing Jiu’s arrival, he carefully prepared a gift and smoothed his clothing while awaiting her; he also accepted Spirit Hall’s restrictions on approaching her without public anger. 10
He was deeply possessive and jealous regarding Bing Jiu. He defended her status against Marshal Ge Long, publicly displayed affection to provoke Tang San, and reacted sharply to perceived humiliation toward her. 10 29 55

Xue Qinghe welcomed Bing Jiu at Heaven Dou City’s gates and publicly treated her as his future consort. He assisted her from the carriage after she requested it, only for her to pull him inside as their joint procession entered the city. 10
Following their audience with Emperor Xue Ye, Bing Jiu was granted the title of Crown Princess. Xue Qinghe publicly discussed a future in which Heaven Dou would belong to “his Spirit Hall,” while their intimate behavior was observed by imperial guards. 12
Conflict Around Bing Jiu
