Background / History

Bibi Dong first encounters Ning Jiujiu as the child is about to be executed under the Papal Decree. She kills the Golden Armor Knights, personally treats the girl’s frostbitten hands and injured knees, and takes her into the Papal Hall. When the girl’s martial soul is dismissed as worthless, Bibi Dong identifies its concealed strength and guarantees that no one in Spirit Hall will harm her 2.

Her protection brings her into direct conflict with Qian Daoliu, who considers the Fallen Angel Martial Soul an existential evil. Bibi Dong refuses to yield even when he invokes Spirit Hall’s duty to eliminate evil soul masters, manifesting both the Soul-Eating Spider Emperor and Death Spider Emperor in preparation for battle 2. After Ning Jiujiu’s tower reveals itself as the Clear Sky Pagoda, Bibi Dong supports her elevation to Saintess and gives her the name Bing Jiu 3.

Bibi Dong later admits that her original decision to save Bing Jiu was partly exploitative: she intended to corrupt the child into a weapon for conquering and destroying the continent. Over time, however, that calculation becomes a genuine mother-daughter bond, and Bing Jiu becomes the person Bibi Dong most wants to protect 117.

Spirit Hall’s Pope and Bing Jiu’s Mother

She entrusts Bing Jiu with inspections, accepts evidence of corruption among Spirit Hall bishops, and authorizes executions based on the findings. Although strict, she encourages Bing Jiu to call her “Mother” in private 6.
