Food is one of his strongest motivations; he repeatedly raids supplies, overwhelms Sanji's efforts to secure the kitchen, and can become focused on eating even during dangerous situations 333 496.

Despite his recklessness, Luffy treats friendship as an absolute commitment. He defines allies as people who will immediately come to one another's aid in danger, a belief that draws other pirate crews to serve under his flag 322.
