Background / History
Moonlight was a poor college graduate working at a construction site before an accident buried him and apparently killed him. He awakened aboard a ship in the One Piece world after binding to the God-tier Cultivation System, which converted repeated use of his skills into experience and upgrades 1.
He quickly identified the world and resolved to seek One Piece, uncover the Void Century’s lost history, and prevent tragedies he knew were coming, including Ace’s and Whitebeard’s deaths. After defeating Alvida, he accepted Luffy’s invitation and became the first member to join the emerging Straw Hat crew 2 4.

Moonlight is a young man who is commonly seen in black clothing; witnesses at Sabaody describe him as a black-clad youth 40 210.

He is confident to the point of arrogance toward weaker opponents, often dismissing enemies before defeating them. However, he is calculating rather than reckless: he shields civilians before fighting, deliberately endures damage to secure his allies’ escape, and recognizes when a direct battle is strategically unwise 50 460.
His loyalty to the Straw Hats is uncompromising. He crossed the sea for days to save Nami, challenged the Buster Call for Robin, and became unusually merciless when the Arkeino Family tried to steal the crew’s flag 96 171 182.
