Early piracy and recruitment

Nami first meets Luffy while pursuing her own scheme, offering him food in exchange for cooperating and allowing himself to be tied up. She intends to use him in a plan against the Buggy Pirates 9.

She returns Buggy’s stolen treasure and Grand Line chart while pretending to join his crew. Buggy exposes her as “Thief Cat” Nami and orders her to kill Luffy to prove her loyalty. Although she steals from pirates, Nami cannot bring herself to murder him 10. Moonlight recognizes her navigational ability from their earlier encounter on Alvida’s ship and invites her to become his crew’s navigator 10.

During the conflict with Kuro’s crew, Nami tries to create an opening for Zoro by throwing a dagger into his battle with the Cat Brothers, even when their retaliation puts her directly in danger 20.

Arlong’s control
