Background / History
Yuangeng was born an otherwise unremarkable member of the vast White Origin Ancient Kingdom. Its Sacrificial Spirit was a True Immortal Six-Eared Immortal Ape who had received teachings and a scripture from the Ancestral Sacrificial Spirit. Yuangeng distinguished himself early through exceptional cultivation talent and a deep understanding of the Dao, cultivation methods, and nature 2.
He originated nearly two epochs before the era in which he became Heng Emperor. Other Supremes knew that he had awakened with memories of his previous existence, while his knowledge of the original history allowed him to recognize future threats, hidden opportunities, and important figures 25 32 43 119. Returning to the Immortal Ancient Era remained one of his ambitions 127.
Appearance
Yuangeng is powerfully built, with sharply chiseled features. Even after nearly twenty thousand years, he appears largely in his prime, with sharp eyes and only a few white strands at his temples 58 114.
- Imperial clothing: Wears an emperor’s robe woven from moonlight; later also appears in a Netherworld Emperor Robe 73 122 215.
- Eyes: Described as deep as the sea, with a faint netherworld glow that unsettles the Heavenly Court’s guards 218.
- Primordial spirit: Manifests as a three-inch-tall figure wearing a Netherworld Emperor Robe, with an Ancient Heaven-Burying Coffin floating behind it 221.
Personality
Yuangeng treats cultivation as an open-ended pursuit rather than a path ending at a predetermined rank. During his Imperial Dao tribulation, he regards combat against Immortal King shadows as an opportunity and declares inwardly that becoming a supreme Immortal King will not be his final destination. Despite his confidence, he openly acknowledges shortcomings in longevity arts and accepts Ye Fan’s narrow superiority in bodily strength 58 114 221.
His political approach is pragmatic. Rather than treating all forbidden-zone Supremes as irreconcilable enemies, he gives them a route to longevity in the Strange World, aligning their survival with his desire to prevent future dark turmoil. He also protects successors, supports ancient emperors’ resurrection, and instructs those administering his trials to eliminate the unqualified without indiscriminately killing candidates 87 122 180 213.
That concern does not extend equally to every world. He permits the Strange World’s Extreme Dao beings to be slaughtered and consumed as longevity medicine, and later considers exterminating its entire population. Even the Underworld’s Supremes oppose this proposal and urge him to spare ordinary beings 85 87 99. His preferred path to the Immortal Domain centers on taking qualified powerhouses with him, unlike Ye Fan’s much broader responsibility toward the Heavenly Court’s dependents 217.
Abilities & Skills
Dual Cultivation Systems
Yuangeng cultivates both the Ancient Method and the human body secret realm system. The Immortal Master recognizes this dual foundation when Yuangeng sends his lunar Dao seed into the Strange World 96 221.
- Connects the Sea of Bitterness, Dao Palace, Four Extremes, Dragon Transformation, and Immortal Platform into a unified humanoid universe at Imperial Dao attainment 58.
- Builds his physical strength through Lunar Essence, Netherworld, and faith cultivation, alongside his accumulated experience 220.
- Estimates that he has cultivated the human body secret realm method for roughly 200,000 years, having entered it later than the Ancient Method 221.
- Remains within the Human Dao during his second journey through the River of Time; his strength should not be confused with confirmed immortal attainment 214.
Burial Dao
His Burial Dao encompasses combat, corpse nurturing, renewal through death, and the preservation of damaged bodies and spirits 93 123 125.
- Bury the Universe and All Heavens: A Burial King method used against the nine Immortal King shadows during his tribulation 58.
- Bury the Gods! Bury the Immortal! Bury Immortality!: A self-created Taboo Method that manifests three black rays resembling tombstones; used to suppress the Blade Emperor 99.
- Burial Dao Chains: Primordial-spirit attacks deployed against Ye Fan 221.
- Corpse-Nurturing Spiritualization, life-and-death Nirvana, and Heaven and Earth Grand Burial: Methods recognized by the Heavenly Nether Treasure, which judges his accomplishments in many burial disciplines equal to or greater than the Netherworld Venerable’s, apart from Reincarnation Seals 123.
- Uses burial formations to assist Duan De’s next return and coffin runes to strengthen the Lunar Essence Human Emperor’s damaged remains 123 194.
Lunar Essence
Lunar Essence is a central component of Yuangeng’s cultivation and offensive techniques 58 99 220.
- Moon Transformation: Combines an illusory moon wheel with a jade rabbit image to meet the Immortal Monk King’s True Buddha Hand 58.
- Lunar Essence Immortal Light: Reinforces his Burial Dao attacks and helps cripple the Blade Emperor 58 99.
- Lunar Dao Seed: Carried within the Eternal Ancient Ruler; used against the Immortal Master and to suppress thirteen Extreme Dao Supremes 96 99.
Faith Thought Power and Dao Bodies
After announcing his imperial title, Yuangeng receives faith from untold trillions of beings. He initially stores it rather than directly absorbing it 59.
- Uses the Sacrificial Spirit Method to collect faith in a Jade Disc within his Immortal Platform 59.
- Maintains a faith body capable of fighting independently of his true body 92 93.
- Receives support from the Sixteen-Foot Bodhi Tree, which stabilizes the faith body’s accumulated thought power 171.
- Controls the Undying Heavenly Emperor’s phoenix corpse through a divided spirit after nurturing it with Burial Dao 93.
- Limit: His faith body alone is insufficient against the Immortal Master, who identifies Yuangeng’s relative lack of mastery in that path 92.
Physique Research
Yuangeng studies special constitutions as expressions of rules within the origins of the myriad Daos, rather than merely inherited bloodlines 198.
- Can forcibly convert a supreme immortal body into a Brahma battle body after studying their origins 198.
- Develops a Blood Pool inspired by the Undying Heavenly Emperor’s nirvana method and the White-Clothed Female Emperor’s approach to becoming a Chaos Body 198.
- Uses that research to transform into a Chaos Body in his fifth life 198.
- Limits: Cannot make Sacred Body and Tyrant Body origins accommodate one another, or artificially create an innate Sacred Body Dao Embryo 198.
Sword Arts and Borrowed Scriptures
His repertoire extends well beyond his primary Burial Dao and Lunar Essence cultivation 122 224.
- Uses the Immortal Tribulation Sword Art to tear open the Road to Immortality on Big Dipper 122.
- Demonstrates the Beast God, Blood Phoenix, Prison-Suppressing, and Fighting Saint Emperor methods at exceptionally high levels 224.
- Shows traces of the Lingbao Scripture during his contest with Ye Fan 224.
- Exchanges techniques with Ye Fan for five days and nights without exhausting the depth of his repertoire 224.
Artifact Forging, Alchemy, and Spiritual Nurturing
- Forges the Heaven-Burying Heavenly Coffin from his old body over a hundred-year process 126.
- His faith body helps the Black Tortoise Ancient Emperor and others refine medicines that nourish the primordial spirit 222.
- Investigates awakening spiritual awareness in Immortal Medicines, nurturing the Green Lotus toward becoming the cultivator Wan Qing 132 212.
Equipment / Weapons / Items
- Eternal Ancient Ruler — A red-and-black Immortal Gold Dao Ruler containing his lunar Dao seed. It is used to project additional power into the Strange World and later returns to his awakened faith body 96 171.
- Heaven-Burying Heavenly Coffin — Forged from his discarded body as the vessel of his Burial Emperor Dao. Ten feet long, deep black, and heavier than a Life Origin Star; it has no separate weapon spirit and is inhabited by his own divine sense 126.
- Kunlun Immortal Bell — An Immortal Artifact used to steady his faith body against the Immortal Master; subsequently sealed by an immortal means during that battle 92 93.
- Burial Emperor Hall — An Underworld palace refined into a treasure comparable to an Extreme Dao Weapon, despite lacking a divine spirit 123.
- Stone Coffin / Ancient Coffin — A separate coffin used to preserve the Lunar Essence Human Emperor’s remnant body and spirit. It is explicitly distinguished from the later Heaven-Burying Heavenly Coffin 122 123 126.
- Phoenix Blood Red Gold Blood Pool — An Imperial Dao weapon over five feet tall, holding the divine blood and physique research needed for his fifth-life transformation 198.
- Stone Door — A mysterious object associated with the source of the River of Time. Yuangeng uses its power to enter the river and travel to other periods and timelines 127 214.
- Jade Disc — Initially used to store faith thought power; later given to the Qilin Emperor together with the Sacrificial Spirit Method 59.
- Flat Peach Divine Medicine — Supplies the immortal peaches served at his gatherings of Supremes 87 127 210.
Relationships
- Qilin Emperor — Adviser and associate. Warns him against excessive reliance on faith and the Bodhi seedling; Yuangeng entrusts him with the Sacrificial Spirit Method, Jade Disc, and care of the Bodhi Tree 59.
- Si Yanning — Lunar Essence Quasi-Emperor and devotee. Leads worship on Ziwei; Yuangeng later gives her an immortal peach and offers a future opportunity for longevity 59 115 124.

- Heavenly Nether Treasure — Powerful Underworld associate. Approves his abandonment of the Heavenly Heart and holds his Burial Dao accomplishments in high regard; later helps guard the Stone Egg 110 123 212.
- Forbidden Zone Supremes — Pragmatic allies. Follow his route into the Strange World, attend his peach gatherings, and credit him with helping them repair their Immortal Platforms 87 170 210.
- Undying Heavenly Emperor — Defeated enemy. Yuangeng kills him, uses his phoenix corpse as a Dao body, and later oversees his vulnerable return within a Stone Egg 93 192 209 212.
- Immortal Master / Azure Luan — Opposing leader of the Strange World. Recognizes Yuangeng’s strength but refuses surrender because of his duty to his world; eventually slain by him 93 99 107.
- Wang Bo — Reborn Chaos Body whose restoration and renewed cultivation Yuangeng supports with chaos origin and a promise of a thousand years of protection 200.
- Ye Fan — Fellow seeker of immortality and sparring counterpart. Hosts Yuangeng at the Heavenly Court and contests bodily strength, primordial spirit, and techniques with him 219 221 222 224.
- Ye Xian — Ye Fan’s granddaughter and a fellow Chaos Body. Challenges Yuangeng at the Southern Heavenly Gate and accepts her defeat without discouragement 218 219.

Trivia
- The author originally used “Gen Emperor” before changing the title to “Heng Emperor” following a reader’s suggestion 58.
- Yuangeng initially had no weapon cultivated in tandem with his life. His later coffin-forging reflects his growing understanding of the human body secret realm era’s weapon traditions 6 126.
- The Heavenly Nether Treasure jokes that Heng Emperor may have held the Heavenly Heart Imprint for the shortest time in history; this is a character’s remark, not an established record 110.
